Puffy Paint on fabric... so pointy!

I've been putting some puffy fabric paint onto a pony project I've been messing with, and the puffy paint keeps leaving little points. I try to smooth it out, and it just leaves points somewhere else. I also sort of hope it will sink as it dries, but it doesn't- still pointy.
Has anyone else had this problem? It's not the worst thing in the world, and it's not like anyone's going to poke out an eye on these tiny little points, but I'd like it to be smooth. Advice?

I've done some things with fabric and puffy paint. I have a Rocky Horror Eddie jacket I made years ago before I sewed and used the puffy paint. It still is puffy. I did manage to smooth it out though by diluting it some when using it.

If you go over the tips with a brush, or drag them down when you finish your application (applying directly from the tube), then it might help.

I will try the brush- I probably won't dilute it, since I'm doing sort of small stuff straight from the tube. Thank you both!

Good news- after it has settled for a day or two, the points aren't as pointy. Hooray! I'll still keep these tips in mind for later, though- I would rather know for sure that the puff-paint will be good, rather than leave it up to chance.
