That is what I first thought, that the editors made an error.   
The other thought is they changed it for the cartoon because Spike was not girly enough name (even for the 1980's)

Not ponies but accessories.   As an adult I don't like the saddles and bridles.  Too much of a human  human influence.

I have been working on some sticker templates for the G1 MLP Show Stable and would like to post them. 
I took a photo of the kitchen and would like to make it available to others.

Also I reworked some other Show Stable sticker scans .  The best quality scans I found (from http://www.mlppreservationproject.com/accessories)  are in Spanish.  I have reworked the Tackroom and Trophy Room so it is in English. 
I am also working on the front sticker but have not finished it yet.
