I've had some great sunfading success lately and for the first time I've sunfaded coloured ponies. I've sunfaded Glittering Gem, Moon Jumper and Sunlight. The first two had spots, don't know exactly what they were but they came off. Sunlight had a shadowlike pinkish mark over her back - didn't look like a saddle mark - and when I tried to sunfade that part of her, covering everything else in tinfoil, I noticed that her blue colour became less yellowed and more vibrant, so I sunfaded the entire pony. I don't think it came out alright in the photos since the light was different at each photo shoot but you get the idea.

First photo: no treatment. Second photo: cleaned with everything I could possibly think of. Third photo: sunfading.

No treatment at all.

After cleaning and sunfading. Still some spots left but I thought she had had enough. ^.^

First photo is when I've just prepared her for a full body sunfading, after having only sunfaded her back for a while. The second photo is after a bit of full body sunfading.

The photo lies a bit, she's not that blue even though she isn't a yellowed pony anymore.

I also had some really nice results on my Scandinavian Gusty. The US Gusty was sunfaded herself about a year ago. I've also added some blush to Scandinavian Gusty since, as I have with US Gusty, that you can see in the photo. I just dabbed a bit of my own blush on her with my finger. It's not permanent but it's an improvement.

can you sunfade g3 starswirl :satisfied:
I would give it a try! She's a common pony if something were to happen with sunburn, but I highly doubt she'd burn. Just wrap up what you don't want faded. Best of luck! Show us some before and after pics?

Yes this :) She is not likely to burn but you should be careful and monitor her just in case.

Ah I see (when I finally got to read the thread has mentioned the paint and Tehrin's method. I really love this method.

For what it's worth, I read a post here about using white acrylic paint in sunfading. Instead of covering symbols with tape etc. you paint over the symbol with a layer of white paint. White I'm assuming because it wont bleed? I remember reading that you can take it off with alchohol and it wont affect the symbol. I don't know how well it would work with magic message or glitter though. But I have a Glory with almost non-existant symbols I'm going to try it on anyway. Maybe just soaking it off with water instead of alchol? I like this way because you can get a more exact fade around the symbol.

I don't have any idea who posted about using it though. But I used it on a Baby Sleepy Pie I had and it worked great. I painted over the eyes, symbol, eyeshadow, and what little blush was left.

its a very good tutorial :)

Sadly, tinfoil isnt good for every type of hair :/ I wrapped my Italy BlossomĀ“s hair in tinfoil and... it melted. I had to cut 2cm of her hair to make it combable again *sigh* ... better not wrap tinfoil around italy-pony-hair I guess.

It's pretty unlikely.  :)  TAF Yum Yum is made of a different plastic than Surprise, Starshine, and Quackers, which is prone to yellowing and age spotting.  Yum Yum's plastic is more forgiving, you should be good, just cover her hair up!
