MLP History Research: Pretty Pony
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:10:06 AM »
I want to update my blog for my MLP-History group on Deviantart and like any other history lessons, I like to start it from beginning like My Pretty Pony since she's a predcessor of the franchise. I'm doing a research here online and wanted to ask you guys if any of you have any memories for it on your days, such as playing with it, how much did it cost back in 1981, and so forth. I don't know too much about it because I was born in 84 and that toy was long gone before I came to this world and never heard of it until the Internet came to the household.

If you also found other stuff about Pretty Pony that I have yet to find, show me the links so I can check them out.
I would like to see the pics of it too. :3

I've got a question that might be relevant: How does, if at all, the Butterscotch that came with MPP differ from the Butterscotch that was sold with the MLP line? I'm a bit hazy on this and from the photo she looks the same.

I found a website where you can scroll through the 1981 Montgomery Ward Catalog.  My Pretty Pony is there (p. 425) and she cost $13.88.  Here's the site:

http://www.wishbookweb.com/

I wasn't convinced My Pretty Pony was actually available as early as 1981, but there she is!

Reanna-mator, I'm not sure if there is difference.  I thought the one that came w/ Butterscotch had a white spot on its rump?  I think the Butterscotch version was available in 1983.
Looking for CF Minty, excellent condition! (and maybe Snuzzle and Blue Belle)

I dont believe there was any difference - PP was only available with Butterscotch at the same time as the original 6 were in stores. It was probably a way to charge more for a product which had been available the previous couple of years and a handy way to introduce kids to this new pony line. "You like this little pony? Well look at all the others your parents can buy you!" [cynical? no...I work in advertising...thats just the way we think  :P ]

Someone here linked to a site that had different catalogs from different years...and the MPP was in one of them    :D  I am loving these catalogs.  I've seen loads of things that I have in them...even things I've never seen anywhere else.

Sweet! Thanks! I remember in my childhood days that mom used to bring the Sears holiday catalog home so me and my bro look through it on what we want for Christmas. XD Those were the days.
And she only cost $13.99? I thought she might cost more than that like around $20 to $30 but I was way off!

Dream Valley has a Pretty Pony page:

I got that site bookmarked already which is why I was looking for other sources instead of just one but thanks anyway. :)

i love THAT SITE!

Hm  I know someone here found one at a thrift shop recently but not sure who.  I never had it.  I was a little young in '81 to enjoy ponies quite yet.
