Price Check Archives / PC Complete g1 show stable
« on: May 30, 2016, 07:11:36 PM »
Hi all!

How much should I pay for a complete show stable with no box? All accessories are there, plastic isn't yellowed hardly at all, all stickers are there and not peeling. No Brandy.

I normally don't do playsets but this one has all the bits and bobs and everything looks to be in pretty nice condition. I know this one is really common, just don't want to overpay.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

The Dollhouse / Re: Need help to clean some Jem dolls
« on: March 27, 2015, 02:09:18 PM »
Oh those poor Jem dolls ... I'm glad you rescued them!

You and Galactica are right, that top is not an official jem fashion. There were a number of 'off brand' toy manufacturers that produced fashions for 12 1/2 inch dolls like Jem and Maxie. It may even be part of the Maxie line.

I would definitely store Danse separately. There are just so many nooks and crannies with the ball jointed dolls, I would hate for a bit of mold stuck in there to damage your childhood toys.

Well, I'm the furthest thing from an expert on the in's and out's of ebay's shipping policies, but I don't see how this is your problem. If the shipping price is stated in an auction doesn't the seller have to stick to that? And perhaps refund overage if there is any?

It's almost like saying, "hey, you bought my item for $34 but unfortunately, it was supposed to be listed for $43. Sorry. My bad. Please let me know if you still want it."

My gps says we take 41 north towards font du lac, then US 45 north towards Stevens point/new London, then a ramp to WI49/WI 110 on right towards Berlin/Fremont. We're staying on Berkans rd off of hwy 49.

Is this far?

Fremont? It would probably be about 1.5 hours or so to the meet.

yep, 1.5 hours is correct.  You'd just head east and get on hwy 141 North and that will take you to within 5 miles of me.  :)

Thanks himmie and ladyarcher726! This might be doable... I'll check in with the hubby and see if we can make this happen!

Oh, and JazzMatazz - were you the one we played cards against humanity with at the fair? We had so much fun!

Yes! That was me :) I just picked up Red & Green sleeve protectors today for the Christmas expansion cards!

Fantastic! We took your advice and our sleeves will be coming sometime this week.

I live in ohio but I will actually be visiting friends in Wisconsin that week. Could my husband and I attend if it's not too far out of the way? I would love to meet everyone and spend some more money on ponies ;)

I put the place we will be staying in my gps as coordinates (have no idea why!) and for some reason I can't pull up the actual address... So here's what the end of our trip looks like.

Please lmk if you're still looking and I can get a list together of what I have.

Pony Corral / Pony salon question!!
« on: October 23, 2013, 12:31:52 PM »
So I was lucky to win a few G1 lots of ponies on ebay. Super happy, but also, major problem for a minty pony collector who has little to no experience taking these girls to the pony salon.

Just couldn't pass up a good deal on ponies I needed. BUT, how on earth do you straighten out a pony's hair after it's been braided for, probably, I don't know, 20 years?

Pony salon experts please help! How do you help pony hair? Bodies are minty but hair is nasty... it's braided, frizzy, knotted... what should I do?

Thanks!

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Gift Payments and Seller Fee Etiquette
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:08:36 PM »
Just to throw another spanner in the works, do sellers ask for payment as gift to avoid PayPal fees or to avoid possible tax/income issues? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere about PayPal and taxable income... But I am also full of head cold, and blonde :)

Ha! Sorry about the head cold, and I'm sure your response has nothing to do with you being blonde (they have more fun, after all!!)  ;)

Ditto Kitkat. As of 2011 (to my knowledge no other updates have been made), sellers making an income from paypal are only taxed in the US if they 1) make more than $20,000/yr from sales and 2) have more than 200 transactions in the same calendar year. Sellers must meet BOTH criteria to be taxed, not either/or.

** If anyone has any other info about taxable paypal fees please let me know!!**

So, to answer your question, I think sellers are asking for payment as a gift to offset their fees, not to 'work around' US tax codes.

Hope you feel better!!

I just have to ask.... this is related, but I don't know if it was covered specifically... i was reading this thread for a while but, then lost a few pages so... :

If you guys are working with someone who doesn't necessarily mention fees up front or gift payments... and then you work on a deal and they cut you a break on the price and stuff, and then ask for payment as a gift... (out of the blue) - how do you handle that situation?

Let's say it's NOT someone you're super familiar with, it's someone with a good reputation but, perhaps you personally haven't worked with them or, maybe it's an international thing where you know you'll have to deal with shipping time waits and all things like that.

How as a buyer, do you not rudely back out of a "gift payment"?

Good question :)

For me personally, when I contact a member I've already got an idea of the cost of the ponies based on the listed prices, so if the seller decides to cut me a deal and knock some money off, I don't think it would bother me so much to pay the paypal fees. I would just rather the seller gives me the full price.

When I message a seller I ask how much to ship the following to Canada, or what will be the total cost of the items and shipping? If a seller wants the paypal fees to be covered by me then just include it in the total amount given to me. Whether there is a discount or not, that's how I prefer it to be done.

I haven't backed out in a situation like what you're referring to, simply because I already know that I can afford the ponies when I initialize communication, so if the seller is going to take a little money off, that just helps me out even more :)

I don't know if that helped you or not.

Ditto @MikeysGrrl ~ good question!

I'll try to put myself in your shoes Sunshine  ;)

Personally, I would be a bit put off b/c the seller did not mention the paypal fees for the reasons I mentioned in one of my earlier posts in this thread.

However, I would be appreciative that the seller has given me a bit of a deal on my purchase.

I would also NEVER pay as a gift to just protect myself (especially if it's an international thing, and particularly if I did not know the seller well/at all, even with great feedback).

If I REALLY wanted the pony/ponies, I would look at the discount I was given, and figure out (or request from seller) what the exact paypal fee would be.

If I were ok with that fee (meaning that fee didn't negate my discount completely i.e. I'm still getting a deal I'm comfortable with) I would thank the seller for the discount, tell them I'd be happy to purchase, but let them know I make a point of never paying as a gift just to retain my protection as a buyer.

I would then offer to pay the paypal fee for them, and include that with my total for the pony/ponies and shipping. That way, I get the ponies and the discount, and the seller doesn't have to worry about fees.

**I would also (very professionally, but with kindness) let them know that while I am extremely excited about the ponies and the great transaction, I am a little disappointed that they didn't let me know about paying as a gift up front. I look forward to buying from them again, but I would really appreciate them letting me know all the fees involved from the beginning, just so we're on the same page  :)  **

I may wait to do this until the transaction is finished, and my ponies are in hand, depending on the temperament of the seller.

On the other hand, if I end up not feeling that it's a fair deal (and/or other red flags have gone up), I have no problem letting the seller know (again, with kindness and professionalism)...

... that while I appreciate the discount and I love their ponies, I unfortunately don't make pony purchases as a gift to retain my buyer protection. And although they are a kind seller with great communication, I really felt uncomfortable they didn't let me know about the fees up front.

Man oh man I really have to stop writing novels!! Congrats if anyone made it through all that!

Oooo, I remember Jem!! I only ever had an annual but I would wear pink and blue eyeshadow, thinking I was so cool. Think I was 9-10 years old : )

No mints for me. I'm hoping I can get my daughter into ponies (she's 2) so they really would be wasted at my house.

Plus I'm really not sure how much a fair price to pay would be, so I have a self imposed £10 limit on any pony. (For now anyway).

Although I saw a pic of baby quackers on here and fell in love, in fact any white body baby pony, so that's another category.......

Gosh, it doesn't stop does it!! : )

Yes - Jem was and is ... truly outrageous! (Sorry, I had to do it :)

If you're unsure about fair prices for individual ponies, you can always search the price check archives on here. 10 GBP per pony is quite a bit for the more common ones, especially if you don't need them to be minty mint.  ^.^

It's so great that you'd like your daughter to start playing with ponies! Buying 'lots' on ebay might be a great option.

I'm sure you've seen groups of 5, 10, 20 or more ponies in one auction up for sale (often if there are no rare ones included the prices are very reasonable). They vary in condition, but you could give your daughter the 'play condition' ponies, and you could keep the nicer ones for yourself.

Just a thought, happy pony hunting

Great question!

I actually started my collecting with NRFB/MOC Jem and the Holograms dolls and fashions in the late 90's while in high school. I'd buy the occasionally pony lot on ebay, but I eventually sold them to fund my Jem collecting.

...A decision I sometimes regret now. Man oh man did I have some rare ones back in the day!!

When the G3's came out in 2003-04, I started collecting them MIB. I still really loved the original G1's, but as a MIB collector, I just couldn't afford it (still can't most of the time!!  :P )

Now that I have all but just a few of the super rare G3's, I've started back in on the G1's, so in a way I'm in the same boat you are... which ones to buy? There are just so many to choose from!

I'm a super picky collector, so I'm willing to pay a higher price for minty ponies. As a result my G1 collection is growing a bit more slowly, but I know I'll never have to spend more money to 'upgrade' much of anything. I like that.

I started with TE's, flutters and anything TAF. BUT, while searching sales forums and ebay, I always find minty ponies I'm not necessarily looking for.

So, I suppose the short answer to your question is, I'll pretty much buy any pony that's minty and in my pony budget... whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.

I also try to buy ponies in bulk, or several from the same seller to save on shipping.

Good luck with your collecting!!
