Does my poor Posey have cancer? :S
« on: March 31, 2012, 03:22:56 AM »
I've just been able to get some pics of my Posey, she came to me with some marks - one on her shoulder that I'm sure is just dirt since she hasn't had a chance to go to the pony spa yet, and  one on her foreleg that's faint and one of the inside of her hind leg. I'm worried about these last two being cancer or mould as she's been with my other ponies for about two weeks before I noticed.

Can anyone identify these marks for me to put my mind at rest? And if it is cancer or mold - how can I get rid of them? Sorry the pics are kind of bad, took them on my phone.

Im not sure but I dont think its cancer... The spot on the leg might just be an age spot...its hard to tell... the smudge on her shoulder might just be dirt, it dont look like age or cancer spots...
You can try wiping them with a little acetone to see if they disappear.

A nice wash in some antibacterial soap is always good for ponies, just make sure you let her dry out for awhile... but I'm sure you already know that. :o)
The round one could be an age spot...

Thanks guys :) I'll give her an antibac wash and spa day when I get back to uni, at the moment she's isolated from my others just for protection.

Question- What's the difference between an age spot and cancer? I thought they were the same thing.

They are....

I think some people like to differentiate however - and call cancer when there is a dark brown centre to the mark while age spots are more like bruises...and I think some people also separate them with the theory that age marks dont spread and cancer can. But people have looked under microscopes on this and there is nothing "alive" to spread in cancer so while boiling is always a good precaution "just in case"...age marks and cancer are pretty much the same thing

At the end of the day its all the same issue - a break down in the plastic...
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
