The Earth pony dominance does not start until the latter half of the line. For most of the first years Hasbro did stick to the 2 Earth, 2 Uni and 2 Peg rule for most sets. Why they changed, with Hasbro, goodness only knows :P

Because the molds were cheaper maybe?  Used less plastic?  To keep some kind of fantasy element to the every day?

Maybe they sold better? I would think it all comes back to $$, so they were either cheaper to produce or sold better, right?
