Title: Ebay help please?
Post by: MimicMLP on February 17, 2012, 10:15:10 AM
okay so i currently have a few pony and non-pony items listed on ebay... and i have one item that got a bid the first day i listed it...and i was like "oh cool, at least i know that one is selling for sure"...then today i went to look at my bids... and that item now shows NO BIDS. How is that possible?

I had no idea that someone could "unbid"....is this possible?

Please help me figure out what is going on!

THANKS!

yeah, bidders can withdraw their bids if the auction does not end soon.

In addition, it's possible the account was frozen or suspended and their transactions were canceled to protect the sellers.

Yes, unfortunately a bidder can retract their bid.  It is only supposed to used if you entered the wrong bid, the listing description changed drastically after your bid or you can't reach the seller.  But sadly it is misused just like most other features on ebay.

It might be a blessing in disguise that they canceled  :P

Good Luck with your sales though!

I had this happen with someone recently and it was rather annoying as it completely messed with my sales...they had placed bids really early on to force the auctions high and then vanished just outside the limit [I believe you can only retract if there is more than 24 hours to go on the auction]

However, I subsequently found out this was a bit of a pattern for them...so it may have been impolite but because I didnt like the thought of them continuing to mess around people I simply blocked them as a bidder and notified ebay as to their behaviour. As ponylady says there are only 2 reasons you are allowed to retract [either the item changes dramatically from the one you originally bid on or you entered the wrong amount] however the retraction system is grossly misused in my opinion and therefore reporting the behaviour so that ebay can investigate the pattern is easy enough to do [if there wasnt a case they wont do anything, if there is a case they can limit an account]. When you click the "bid" button you are technically committing to a purchase.

However, I would caution that someone could have withdrawn for another completely valid reason [perhaps a change in circumstances means they would not have had the money to pay and therefore better they dont win] and in normal circumstances I wouldnt have reported this last time but this person had clearly got on the ebay train at crazy-ville!

Good luck - I hope all your items sell as you wish!

@hathorcat - happened to me too! bidders with 2 accounts bid and push the price so nobody watches the auction anymore. and then they take back the bids to get the lower price and nobody notices that its low in price again!

yes I've seen this happen before too unfortunately *sigh* :(  such a pain. I also had someone retract their bid from one of my ebay items last week. It was sooo annoying as the item didnt sell after that, and  the reason they gave was that their kid bid on it :yikes:
I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I hope that you have other bids on your item and it sells without any more issues

Oh Mimic that is just crazy!  I am so sorry!

Do you want to block the one's who already did this or specify what types of buyers you want to block?

I blocked this new one but im going to wait to block the other one until after the auction ends. I have 3 watchers on that auction and if the buyer still wants the item i dont want to take away that chance. But i now know why nobody like selling on ebay...too much work! And its frustrating!
