Ooo, very nice. I love the theme and idea of repurposing a plush so successfully as a custom.

Pony Corral / Re: The Inner Workings of Pony Life Ponies

Yikes, just opened up Applejack and what a ridiculous mess to take out the tail. The hole on the tummy is actually combined with the lifted leg, so for ponies with the lifted leg pose, their leg has to come off to get the tail. There's not a metal washer, but a metal strip wrapped around the tail. After it's out, the hole is so small and long that you can't really pull a tail through easily, so I had to push it through. I think in the future, I will just cut the tail and try to glue one in like I do with the G4 princesses. I'll probably eventually add a tutorial to my PowerPoint on G4 step by step customizing instructions (found in links on the Customs Board).

Krylon sprays just haven't seemed to work well on vinyl ponies. Are you referring to a sealant or just a coat of spray paint? Definitely this can happen with spray paint, and it will also eat away at the plastic over time and even become sicky. As for their sealents, I worry for the same thing, but either way customizers havent yet reported luck with it. I would definitely recommend Testors Dulecote or Mr Super Clear. Testers can be found at most craft stores.

Customs / Re: Question about yarn hair.
« on: January 29, 2020, 10:04:04 PM »
I have only done a yarn custom once, so I'm not the ideal person for advise. I believe you need to choose an acrylic or wool with a clear twist that looks like it will separate. I believe I used a Lion brand acrylic when I did a perfume puff. This is a question that could actually be helped out by the doll community too. Try searching for yarn tutorials for dolls as well, and I bet you'll find more expert advise than mine.

I like the winter theme! All the flutter ponys have such flowery/warm themes, of course, but I think it's time we had a wintery flutter pony.

Wow! That's some complicated hair access! I need to experiment with this. I hate how much plastic you have to cut into; that's going to be harder to hide when you have to glue it all back together.

Yes! Perfect advise already given. I always use water since it's cheap and always on hand, but I have heard other people say an airbrush reducers are the way to go. I say try both, see what you think. I learned the most from experimenting and watching YouTube tutorials.

Nice smooth work! Can I ask what compressor you are using? I think mine is getting worn out and not always providing even air pressure, so give been having my eye out for a new one. Your lovely base reminded me!

Pony Corral / Re: Is having an army of ponies selfish? let's discuss
« on: December 27, 2019, 07:37:54 PM »
Hmm, I'm not sure. If it's selfish, then wouldn't it imply that the selfless thing to do would be to buy no ponies at all so others may have the opportunity? Someone is going to buy them, why not you? And is there a major difference between the philosophical selfishness of collecting in general verses collecting a specific pony? Either way you are taking ponies out of the market, if that is the ethical concern. So I would argue that it isn't any more selfish that enjoying other material things.

Glad to hear things are going well from the great advise in this thread! Having an airbrush will be a new fun technique to help with this as well, so I'm excited for you. Especially if you are diluting acrylics to us in your airbrush, I do recommend sealing it in some way (having a varnish as others have mentioned). Since you are in the US, I highly recommend getting Testors Dulecote. You can find it at Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, or Hobby Lobby as well as possibly in local art stores. It comes in an small spray can.

Customs / Re: How to mix tinsel into hair? (Or where to get premixed)

She looks gorgeous! I do use the tool and glue, I didn't know I could push the tool back in after the hair has been rooted

Yep! I do it all the time to add a little extra hair or to add tinsel.
