Flocking?
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:43:40 AM »
So I need to do a couple so soft ponies. One is going to have sculpted wings. Since it will have flocking would I need to worry about the details on the feathers? I guess the biggest question is where do I get this stuff?

Thanks much

I use the Martha Stewart flocking, from Michael's, found in the scrapbooking section.  Good luck! :)

Yes, Martha's flocking is excellent and comes in awesome colors. She also sells wonderful, fine glitters that would be perfect for ponies.

I use Recollections flocking, stuff is awesome, i wouldn't necessarily rub a pony flocked in it on my face, like I would an actual SS pony though. lol
At my  Micheal's  it was on clearance, a large bottle for 1.50 or a whole set for 6.50

Michales is tarting to discontinue some of their flocking selection, I know the martha stewart is already long gone from most stores. You should be able to fnid some toher brands in the scrapbooking supplies though.

Oh wow, no longer stocking it? Sad day!
I know you can order online, but still. I like to see it in person and not pay shipping.

Like everyone else, I get flocking in the scrapbook sections.  I get it in the local A. C. Moore craft store, but Walmart seems to have a huge sections of Martha Stewart stuff in their craft section now.

I used Mod Podge, slightly thinned.

And then add the flocking?  I gotta be nuts to consider this.  The cats will go bananas over something like that.

It's easier than you'd think.  Do it in sections.  A bit of glue, add some flocking to that area, repeat.  I only did a beard on a pony, but there's a few tutorials out there with better directions for doing an entire pony.

I usually do it like this-
1. Paint the pony a similar color to the flocking.
2.Coat the pony in watered down mod podge. ( small sections at a time)
3. Take a clump of flocking and press it firmly to the pony.
4. Repeat untill whole area or pony is covered.

For bald patches I use a dab of mod podge and pat on more flocking.

Here is CherryCake's flocking tutorial.  It was very helpful to me.  Good luck! ;)

That's the one that I used as well, it was helpful to see how everything was done even though I'd only be doing an itty-bitty g4 beard.

I use Martha Stewarts flocking, you can still buy it online :)
I don't think you need to worry about the feather details as the flock will cover straigh over it.
