Author Topic: Help identifying a pony :3 now with pics (Read 1302 times)

Hello everyone

I got a pony in the mail today, a Starshine bought on ebay.

She is in the same pose as my regular Starshine but is quite different.

She has the same white body but the plastic is softer and "waxier" and is not as white as the other. Her symbol is her biggest difference. It is slightly smaller and very vibrant gold.
Her black eyeliner is darker than my other and her eyes a paler shade of blue. The pink in her hair is much, much brighter than the other too.

Thing is, her hoof says Hong Kong, which was my first place to look. Any ideas why she is so different?

Here she is on her own. Not a brilliant picture but I don't have time to set up my lightbox. Her hair is a bit unruly too. Haven't yet tidied that up!

And here she is with my original Starshine. As you can see, the colour difference between the two symbols is really obvious. Both have glittery symbols

I also noticed that the new girl's hairline ends sooner than the old one. It is quite obvious and I will have to take a pick of it later (possibly after they both take a trip to the hair salon!)

Mines actually a factory error though I think. Her right blush is on her eye ROFL

EDIT: Look at all of my G1 ponies- they all have Hong Kong on their hooves.

You say she's softer... both that I have are that way too. I have one gal that was off white, but she had really bad cancer; she did not lighten with the sun; don't put your gal in direct sunlight! Doesn't look like yours has that issue from the pic. Her hair may not be faded at all, that's why it's more vibrant.
Here's my upgraded gal, she's hong kong... I'm guessing you've got some regular factory variation there. Can't wait for a clearer pic. :o)

Is she the non-US release? There's two versions.
US:

That's the pic from the Wiki and it says she's a French variation.

I don't think the bright gold one on the French or the other one is glittery.

I don't know, my only thought is that the body could have discolored a little over the years...that's pretty normal. I'd say maybe one symbol has rust, but if they're not the same size, then I'd think there's more to it than that.

Now that I see it, the first thing I thought of is maybe some of the glitter fell off. (The paint under the glitter on Starshine is bright gold coloured, as seen in your first Starshine.) As for her body colour, Starshine, like most other white ponies, are prone to discolouration. Sunfading should whiten her up.

I wouldn't try to sunfade Starshine...she's prone to darkening in the sun and getting a tan.

Oh, gosh. I totally forgot about this. The only reason I said it was because I'm sunfading mine, but mine's German. x___x

Yeah, it looks a little as if she's faded and the metallic paint has come away from her symbol. She's got some wear and tear for a 29 year old pony, that's her "variant" issue, which makes her unique in some ways.
