Pony Corral / Re: Archive of the FiM subforum?

To me it would make more sense to ban those members instead of removing an entire part of the forum. That way everyone is getting "punished" for the actions of some.

I never considered the discussions in the FIM section to be that bad. Maybe i'm used to discussions that get a lot less polite. Either way i'm very dissapointed to see the FIM forum close. This was the only place where i enjoyed talking about the show and it just seems weird to me that such an important part of MLP is getting ignored now. Ah well.

Pony Corral / Re: Equestria Girls Dolls are making a Comeback
« on: September 08, 2017, 07:52:15 AM »
I find the new dolls kind of creepy honestly. It looks like they tried really hard to make them look more like a real human and completely removed all the cartoonish qualities that make them actually look like Equestria Girls. They removed those qualities to the point where I would honestly like them better if they had gone all the way with it and removed the ears and stuck to flesh tones for the skin. I can't help but think there's something medically wrong with them when I look at them. It's just an uncomfortable balance of realism vs cartoon for me. Like Rainbow Dash suffocating and Rarity is a statue they're carrying around type thing. I'm hoping I will like them better in person or after seeing more pictures. The only one I like at all right now is Fluttershy but even she is rather off putting.

Fully agreed. They look so uncanny and ugly to me.
They do not remind me of MLP or even EQG. They look like random human dolls with weird skin colors.
I also dislike how they no longer have a cutie mark on their face or the fact they do not have wings. Again, they look as if they have hardly anything to do with MLP. : /

Pony Corral / Re: What are your thoughts on G4.5 ponies?
« on: April 19, 2017, 02:59:46 AM »
I have not bought any of them yet so i can't judge much.
I do think the regular ponies are ok looking. After years of the same pose i welcome something different. (Getting serious G3.5 vibes now. After the core 7 i really welcomed them. Let us hope it will work out better for these.)

I'm not a fan of the princesses though. Especially Celestia who looks like she is made out of noodles and has an inflated head.
I don't care much about "show accuracy" but the princesses actually look less accurate than their original toys.
Celestia used to look far more elegant and regal than her current toy.

On the other hand i do really love the seapony princess and queen. Looking forward to those.

All i can think is "same old, same old".

I'm confused as to why this would be called 4.5.
G3.5 was not only called this way because the mold changed, the lore and world changed too. The world G3 had build up (Unicornia/Spike/Butterfly Island...) was suddenly gone. The only reason it was still linked to G3 was because the main characters were still the same from the core 7 G3 days. Aside from that, pretty much everything changed.

These are not like that at all.
These are simply new molds. Molds that are suppossed to mimick the show style closer. There isn't a big style change anywhere and the lore sure did not change in any way. Heck, we should have gotten new molds AGES AGO.
Characters had several molds in the past and noone had trouble with that. That's were things like "the donkey pose" or "the diva pose" came from in the first place. This really is not a new sub-gen. People are way too eager to throw around "G4.5!" every time some change happens.
(Like how some wanted Equestria Girls to be G4.5)

I feel mixed about these. I welcome anything new at this point but they got a serious case of noodle legs.
Celestia actually looks a lot less accurate then her previous toys...

Once again the box is more interesting than the actual product. Amazing. X )
Good thing i no longer got high hopes for these exclusives.

G1: I did have G1 ponies as a kid but i was a bit too young to remember seeing them in stores or anything like that. (I was about 2 years old)
They are my favorite gen simply because nothing can beat it when it comes to both quality and variation.

G2: This was the first gen i got clear memories of and it actually did quite well in my country. There was a kind of points/bar code program that gave out free ponies if you got enough of said points. I remember getting Hip Holly in that way and being so very happy as i had never even seen her in stores. There was also a computer game that i played and a CD with music and stories that i would listen to. So i don't agree with them having no personality. I always thought they were the most elegant looking generation and i adore that they all have eye gems.
The fact i got fond memories of them makes me love them even more.

G3: It was an awesome gen and i would like to tell my younger self that i was actually getting spoiled back than. I know how back than i (and other people) would complain how too many ponies had flowers for a symbol and it seems really silly now...I think G3 ponies had a great design and a ton of variation. (Though there should have been more unicorns) Back than i wasn't too bothered by all the USA exclusives because there was always something new to find in stores over here too. It never felt like i ran out of ponies to collect. I could just go to a store and pick a new one up if i would have liked to. That is something i really miss these days.
The animations...it was aimed at a young target audience but it never bothered me as much as it seemed to did other people. Than again, the animations were not my main concern. (Also, G3 Spike is actually my favorite.)

G4: Well, i can't deny it is very popular. Maybe a bit too popular as i could have gone without some of the things the new fanbase brought along. The show is entertaining and the toys are cute but...boring. Too much the same stuff and too many of the same characters.
Another problem for me is that the toyline doesn't seem to do that well over here. We get none of the exclusives and waves get skipped because the old stock just isn't selling. This is happening a lot with the single brushables. Things like the EQG dolls have stopped appearing and others never show up at all. We never got any of those big blind bag sets or the EQG mini figures.
Because of that i hardly still check toystores and i haven't bought as many ponies as i did in the G3 era. I do like G4 but it doesn't seem to working as well as previous gens in my country.

I have been a bit out of the loop. Did they really discontinue them?

11
Meh, those really don't look well done. Actual clothing would be so much cooler or at least a better paint job.
An easy pass for me.

I prefer G1. Both the show and toyline.
The toyline part isn't hard to explain. The G4 line is dull beyond belief.
As for the show...sure, G4 has a bigger budget, cleaner animation and it's more "modern".
But it lacks a few things that are important to me.

First of all, i love how wild and crazy G1 Ponyland is. It feels like a place were everything and anything can happen. Compared to Ponyland Equestria is kinda dull. After 5 seasons we have still not seen all that much of it and i'm not impressed by places like Manehattan. They feel too...human.
In fact that is the second problem with FIM. Everything is too human.
The G1 cartoon made the ponies seem more like magical creatures. They also simply felt more ponylike to me. G4 ponies on the other hand look more like humans (those faces + facial hair) and they lead humanlike lives. They get born in hospitals, they go to school, they get a job, they get sick and they die.
The life of a regular G4 pony isn't very fantastical.

People keep saying "the animators didn't care".
As an animator i think it is more of a case of "this show did not get the budget to fix things"

Errors happen on every production. Either the people working on it (meaning not just the animators. Animators do not color the animation.) did not get enough money or they did not get enough time to actually fix these errors.

Pony Corral / Re: TOY SHOW: Hasbro introduces MLP Guardians of Harmony
« on: February 11, 2016, 08:46:52 AM »
I think we just need to keep in mind that Hasbro branching out and trying different things like this is what's keeping them afloat. I was never a fan of EQ, but they're their own line and their success is not destroying the ponies I love.

I wish more people felt his way. This comment is the most logical thing I've seen since this thread popped up. Claiming that one line of toys is essentially bringing about the end of another line -that has nothing to do with it- is silly.

Did anyone even say that? Complaining about the lack of effort in other parts of the toyline is not the same as claiming that the line will end.

Either way, i will be really surprised if these will ever get released here. None of the big blindbag ponyville set things even got here.

I know right? And if they were they would be twice as expensive ;.;

At this point i have no idea how MLP is still a thing in Belgium. All i ever see are the big playsets and some glitter maned brushables they can't seem to get rid of. If i did not have the internet i would believe G4 was already ending.
So why Hasbro bothers making action figures like these instead of improving the toys that get a worldwide release is beyond me. Things were never this bad during G3.

Oof, that's a bit worse than here. We get stuff, but slooow. We got the Holly Dash wave at least? ANd I've seen the new articulated ponies here. FS AJ and Daisy Dreams were very late in stores here and only at the Kruidvat stores, they buy left-overs.
Other then that it will be Ebay or asking here at the Arena to get these lovelies ;)

I've asked Both Bart Smit and Intertoys and they said they wont get any new MLP at all. Even not the EQG Mini's. :(

Really? Ugh, that is terrible. I was really looking forward to the EQG mini's. : (
I haven't seen Holly Dash or the articulated ponies either.
