Hi All! Long time no see :-)

Needless to say I haven’t been on the pony scene in a minute… Can y’all update me as to how this trend happened?
Besos!
EDIT for examples:
$135 for baby CC (pink with white hair)
$120 for baby CC (pink with green/white hair)
$400 for glory with red hair
$300 for green helados
$400 for felicidades
$90 for CC
$500 for LS pink with purple hair CP
$110 for baby MD white with green hair
$500 & $310 for novia
$350 for minty
$670 for hearthhrob (pink with white hair )

Rel!!! Welcome back
Lack of supply and increased demand imho, as well as new people joining the community.
Prices have gone bananas, it's not just eBay or here now for buying and selling, there is a wide market on Facebook and Instagram, both of which have there own price idiosyncrasies
I'm finding it really hard to keep up to dates with prices myself and price checking is quite difficult due to huge fluctuations -_-

Thanks lady!! ^_^
When you say prices are going bananas, do you mean across-the-board for all ponies? Or just nirvana? Or just Argentina?
People sell Argentina ponies on Instagram?!
I need to start following whoever they are 😆

I mostly deal with nirvana and that is were I have noticed it most. I do think other pony prices have been going bananas though, some have rocketed in value.
Yes! There are Argie collectors in Argentina on Instagram (and Facebook too). On Instagram, try searching the Argie names for the sets/ponies in the hashtags ;)

How odd- I guess it only takes a small handful of people who want the same thing to drive prices up.
I wonder if it is because it is much harder to buy through Mercadolivre/mercadolibre these days. (it used to be just a little challenging but now it is impossible unless you have a local address to register with)
-
I'm pretty sure there are a few new collectors in South America with deep pockets. I'll wait for prices to stabilize.
-
Im an Argentina collector and also a seller, have quite a few recurring customers and customers who buy throughout the year to have everything shipped before xmas.. I too was amazed at those prices, Ive never charged over 200 for an argie, maybe cause im picky and every single flaw make me lower the prices when I sell... so I would only sell really rare ones at high prices, none on that list are... what better example than baby cotton candy who should have fading pink hair, so in that listing you mentioned it has discolored hair and it went over 130.. i sold one with almost all of its hair still retaining its original pink for 50-60 a few weeks ago... which i consider the going price for one of the most common argie babies...
I feel like some people showed up recently in the community and everybody just went nuts about argies.. also most of those auctions have been won by the same person who seems really invested in having every single argie that pops up and leave nothing for the rest.

I agree exactly with what you said at your last lines..Almost all these auctions were won by the same person who buys every single argie-even if it has to raise his/her bids super high!-and other collectors can't have even one.. Sorry for that, but it seems very selfish to me.. :|
-
If they are a new collector eventually they will probably want to upgrade which will maybe benefit someone wanting to sell. Do you remember when someone turned up and started paying a lot of money to complete thier sticker collection? I guess this is like that... just wait for it to blow over.

My thoughts exactly, I imagine if I would have kept every single argie that came to me for the past 11 years.... I find joy in helping other collectors get something they really want, same reason why I dont sell on Ebay, cause I wanna know who Im selling to, all my customers are gr8 people and became dear friends and I know they cherish every pony I send their way. Hoarding is indeed being selfish..I feel sorry for the person who has the need to own everything so nobody else has the chance to have something they want.

I have noticed this too....lots of same buyers...buying all of them...it's strange..lol

I was going to say as an outsider looking in, Argies are appealing to me because they seem like one of the most varied nirvana types...but if it's all one person? That's scummy. :( Hopefully the prices will work themselves out, although if that person is trying to drive the market price up by sellling them at the same price they're buying them and making the market seem like that's the norm...
-
nah I wasn't thinking it was all one person... honestly I don't find prices for argies insane for some of them that are really rare and sought after
yeah I thought $500 for a CP lickety was high but than it's christmastime so I see a baby rainbow goes $160 on auction and then the BIN snags a $300 buyer - so maybe it is just the up and down of the season
argies IMO have always been tough since condition varies so much sometimes
and don't even get me started about some of the oddballs that have been found
I do love the colores vivos :-) even though the price roller coaster can be frustrating
-
I also have to agree with the prices of some of those ponies! Sometimes it takes the fun out of collecting. Wonder what will happen with there prices in 5 years?
-
I do hope the prices stabilize or go down soon. I have half a dozen argies and Brazil ponies missing from my collection, but can't bear to pay the prices they are demanding on ebay now.
-
Noticed this too on the FB Nirvana groups, dropped jaw then had to change to depends for the last few months...
::grumbles:: Takes the fun out of collecting when prices inflate like that. Baits, give me baits, please!!!
-
Oh wow, that's not good. I'm not really into nirvanas, but there's a certain blue Baby Moondancer on my wishlist... I really like some of the Argentina babies.
-
ok now I am officially on the - yeah crazy price - bandwagon after a baby sparkler sailed over a couple hundred not in great shape... (as I start to look over my buttons-crew and wonder if it is time to sell...)
I guess the good news is that there will now be more folks that will probably look to list and sell their argies if they aren't all just $10-$30ish MLP
dunno... seems there is definitely a bit of a roller coaster as to prices right now
-
Bought from the same seller AGAIN.I was pretty sure he/she was gonna win this at huge price, as he won also many argies this week more than 10 i think!!
-
yeah I guess I am showing my bias in I would just prefer they were a member here since there did seem to be another Minty variant in that last go round = although I believe here already knows we have argies in 2 lash vs. 3 lash and fat vs. thin clovers and 7 vs. 8 varieties. So it's just sometimes a shame as to the history keeping part ( I so appreciate Taffeta and crew that have done a bang up job on all the archiving and puzzling so we know as much as we do here with the nirvana forums. I think it is so freakin' awesome we have found we have newly found gusty variants and all those moondancer variants and even the stencil oddballs from Argentina fairly well figured out... so yeah from the MLP-history geek standpoint I hope this latest price roller-coaster won't last too long (IMO somebody got ahold of a paypal "world mastercard" account and is having a bit too much fun with digits but I digress...) and all our sharing and archiving here in the nirvana forums can still have the goal accomplished :-) when a new variant is discovered "in the wild" like that latest princess sundance
just my two cents

It’s the same buyer with most of them. The person bids extremely high on them which means a lot of other people can’t afford them. They also buy duplicates I’ve seen the same eBay name buy the same pony. It’s not fair to the rest of the collectors who just want to buy one and not pay stupid prices on them
-
Ow, ugh. That's really lame :\ I just bought a Moonjumper. She was $50 but needs new wings and a partial rehair. I've had cheaper wingers previously, but eh... this was my setcompleter!

I ve seen the person with the many duplicates that you say on facebook.. What can i say, i search different sites that sell ponies to be quick or lucky enough to buy before her..

Is this maybe starting to wind down? It seems like now people are just listing them at crazy BIN or starting prices, but they aren't necessarily selling? It's really disappointing because some of the Argies are super neat looking with their colors and I just got back into collecting so I'd love to have some! 15 years or so ago things weren't so global!!!

I am so Leary of investing into an Nirvana now days, too much going on as far as restorations and it not being brought forward and I am not just talking Argie. I purchased a Spanish TAF sugarberry from a member and when I pulled her out of storage, well the hair is faded so I know it's dolly hair even though I was assured there was not restoration done. Soured on Collecting anything now days. Wow Rela, so glad to see you back! :yippee:

Hi there!!!!! *hugs*
You actually came up in conversation today on the Facebook nirvana page. I still have your rainbow MD. and theres one on ebay at the moment. We suspect shes a hybrid since there is white in her tail.
Do you remember where/how you obtained the one i have now?
💛
-
dang i feel so outta the loop I don't do FB - I would chime in to agree to a hybrid possibility and i have a MOC baby arco that has the moonie green hair head/tail swap so it makes sense depending on how all that was manufactured back in the day. One thing positive I will say about prices is that I am tempted to part with some of my really good argies to then be able to buy MLP I am after since ya'll know how that whole sell to buy nirvana deal goes :-)
glad to see ya'll still hangin' around the arena Rel :-) and Shelti :-) (I feel like a youngin' with less than a decade under my belt)
-
(I feel like a youngin' with less than a decade under my belt)
You've been around long enough to count as a veteran imo :P Activity matters!
-
Back in the day, I got most of my argies for UNDER $50 and several were MOC !
-
ah the twentieth century, perhaps ? ;-) or even up until about 2005 or 6
man I think we all want that proverbial time machine when ebay was just coming around as a forum to trade these guys
heck I remember you had an alaska destination, tiki - cool to see ya have crossed the pacific :-)
yeah nirvana wallets can get ridiculously pinched depending on the MLP nowadays post FiM mania and all the re-discovery of vintage toys I know I start to twitch when the value pushes past my real-horse expensing
-
And another nutso price!!
$484 for yellow pegasus flutterbye?!
She was $45-70 in 2013
