Looks like bad paint jobs over Mommy Charms. Why are you certain that's not what they are?

Well they don't feel at all like plastic, they have the weird hooves and some of their surface is porous the the way plaster casts are. This pic might show some of it?

Thanks for your input everyone!

These really are weird. They have no markings and the place where the loop should be is sort of visible but also sort of not. They definitely aren't plastic painted over. The biggest problem I have with the theory that someone made their own mould is that Mommy charms were never available in Finland (as far as I know). Of course we get foreign ponies here quite often, but still it seems strange that the person first happened to get their hands on one and then decided to make more. Not impossible though. They also have these indends in their hooves, like whoever made them confused ponies with cows.

So today I picked these up at a charity shop. I've never seen anything quite like them before. They are the size of mommy charms/petite ponies and possibly made of plaster. Did someone cast their own molds and make these, or were there plaster craft kits for making them or were they actually sold somewhere? They were in a bag with dollhouse furniture, some of which I recognize from my childhood in the 80's, so at least they're probably really from the G1 era.

Off Topic / Re: Private Candy Swap anyone?

Depending on time frame and what you had in mind for a price range, also if you didnt mind a US partner, I wouldn't mind taking this one, I'm in the candy swap but... You cant have enough candy right? xD

Thank you for offering, I'll have to think on this for a bit, if you don't mind. It looks like the postage to US would most likely be 35 euros, which is a little high.

Going to move this to Off Topic for you :) I hope you find someone.

Oh sorry, I didn't think. Thanks for moving this!

Off Topic / Private Candy Swap anyone?

I'm not eligible to join the big one, but maybe someone wants to do a private one with me? I just got back to collecting last fall, but if a potential swap partner is concerned about my reliability I can provide them with references. :) People on the Finnish MLP-forum know me (I even hosted a pony meet years ago) and I can also give a link to my Ebay feedback.

I've used bedsheets when packing mine, kind of weaving the sheet between layers of ponies.

One of these days I'm going to be able to do one of these candy things. (The long version: I'm not that talkative and also was on a break from collecting for years. I've done some trades here but have no feedback to show for them, either because I was never given any or because it was before the current system. There is also another platform that I frequent where they do this every Christmas but I'm usually too busy in December.) But one day. :)

MLP Nirvana / Re: Scandinavian NSS ponies - differences?

That pics is great! So it looks like it's the whole eye that is more gray in color? Like the center part too?

Glad it was usefull!

I think that's right, all the black areas are a dark grey colour. I traded the NSS to another collector years ago, but I still have the pics.

Here's a full body comparison too, just for fun. :D

You are specifically interested in Cupcake so I guess this won't be of that much use to you, but since I still happened to have these pics, I thought I'd post one anyway. I think the difference in eyeliner is quite apparent here.

Pony Corral / Re: Original Price of G1 Ponies?
« on: October 24, 2013, 01:50:58 AM »
G1 ponies were fairly expensive back in the 80s in Finland... I don't remember any figures, but I used to mark all the toys I wanted from a big catalogue, and I remember thinking I would probably not get any ponies because they cost more then the other toys. And I ended up with four ponies total over the years, no more, and no playsets either. My friends also had just a few ponies if any, and maybe one had a Pretty Parlour.

I have some old ads stashed away, if I remember correctly adults were 49.90 Finnish Marks and babies 39.90. That's about 8e and 7e, respectively, but as others have said you could get loads more for that amount of money than you can these days.

Come to think of it, I should get my old clippings online one of these days, someone besides me might find them fun...
