Thank you SO MUCH for posting pictures on your blog!  I love the art on the back of the boxes!  Also great knowing what scents they are.  <3

Edit: Does it come with a poster?  I'm thinking that's what the G1 backcard pic (but without text in the middle) is?

No problem, the scents are tricky, I'm not sure I'm smelling what's written aha.
And no, no poster. The G1 backcard with no text was photoshoped by me, sorry. It's sad, for sure.

I don't want to be rude but I know what I am about to say will sound kinda fear monger-y...

I just find it crazy to charge more than 10€ for a G1 pony and I'm afraid this will kill the retro line in any country that isn't the US.

G4s are not cheap but they are modern and kids know them. Also you might get fashions or gimmicks along with the pony for that cost.
It looks like a bad deal for parents that aren't caught up in nostalgia.

I am not sure...

Everything in Europe is more expensive than the US.
We also don't know for sure yet that these won't be $15 in the US because they have extra brush, sticker, scent etc. We will have to wait and see.

I think fear mongering is stupid before they're even on shelves. If parents are willing to pay £22 for a FS version of ponies their kids already had twenty of, then I see no real problem here. On the contrary, a lot of toy prices here have been ridiculous for a long time now.

So it is ripping us off as usual on prices, but we should be used to that by now.

I was going through my backcards from G1 today and to compare equivalent prices between ponies on sale in 1992 between the US and the UK (I don't have many European ones to compare with).

Starswirl and Springy's cards both have a Walmart label on for $3.97
Comparison from the UK at the same time (we're a little behind the US), Rockin' Beat Ponies were £5.99 each. That's a conversion of about $9-10 which is 3x the price of the US pony.

I chose the Rockin' Beat set as a comparison because I had all of them and I saved to buy all of them from my pocket money. Even though that was a lot of money for me as a kid. Even a baby pony like Baby Soft Steps was selling at £3.99 in 1992, which would have been around $6.50 back then in US money.

Bangles (Hairdo) has a price label of £9.45 and Baby Wuerfelchen is priced DM22.50. I googled and that's about £10 which at the time would have been around $16 in USD. So this kind of thing is normal - or at least it was by the 1990s, even if they were cheaper in the years before.

Twenty years on and inflation makes this realistic pricing. It's uncomfortable for us only because we know the US are getting stuff cheaper now. We didn't think about that when we were kids and I am not sure parents did either. They could either afford it or not. But I think worrying about the price of something before it's even out beyond one country is silly. Prices are more here. It sucks. But it's still better than import costs would be.

Thanks to all of you, I'm glad to help.
Also for the price worry, it was EURO 13,99 piece. And yes, EU prices are more expensive than US, but that's not going to stop us to buy because as Taffeta said: we can or cannot afford it. That's all. We saddly cannot CHOOSE the prices.
Also I'm not rich, but I spared for those. And a lot of the people who wants them will do too.

Thanks for the pictures and scent guide. Do they smell good, or not too great? I want an apple scented Applejack!

It smell chemical. Not bad, but I wouldn't say "good" as I don't like artificial smells

Out of interest, and I don't know as it's been many years since I visited the US, - are the US prices including sales tax/local taxes or would there be more add-ons for retail sales price?
VAT is usually included in European prices.

No, US shelf prices don't include sales tax.  Sales tax is added on at the register.  Sales tax also varies between states, and sometimes even between counties or cities in a state.  (Which might be the same in Europe too?  I don't know.)

For example, sales tax in Washington state is about 8% statewide, but ~10% in Seattle. So a "$10" pony actually costs about $11 for me.  Meanwhile Oregon, one state down, doesn't have a sales tax (but they do have a state income tax, which Washington state does not).  So our 'cheap' prices are not necessarily as cheap as they seem.

Also keep in mind that in the US an ambulance ride will cost ~$600 minimum, having a baby in a hospital costs about ~$3500, etc.  So we may be saving more on the front-end . . . but that doesn't mean we end up saving that money in the long-run.  Pay now or pay later, as they say.

I wondered if that was the case Lady Moondancer.

Value Added Tax (VAT) can be different in each European country, for each nation it depends on what percentage the national government has decided upon (it's 20% for most VAT-rated things in UK at present). Retail shelf prices in stores usually include the tax.
