Oh you guys... I seem to have accidentally just bought a sitting white blank
Just because someone didn't paint the body or the eyes on doesn't mean they are not hand made. People spend weeks designing/ choosing colors, someone physically pours/ pulls the pony from the mold, risks their fingers on an industrial hairing machine, puts the pony in the symbol stamper, hand cuts each tail and places each head on, bags each pony with accessories and packs them, so they are, in a way, made by hand.

Wow I would LOVE to see how a pony is constructed!Have you photos of the molds, the hairing machine and the intriguing symbol stamper in action? I think it would be really cool to see them "being born"!
I know a video of someone using the hairing machine was posted once.
These ponies are a labor of love. They require a small team of us that literally spend months making them. No one is getting rich from these or paid by the hour like people working basic fun/bridge direct, and they are very limited quantities compared to any pony you'll find in a store. If each run was a guarunteed sell out, prices could be lowered so join our facebook group and spread the word to friends! You can catch special deals on cheaper ones through the group from time to time;) Just because someone didn't paint the body or the eyes on doesn't mean they are not hand made. Most of our ponies range in the $15-$30 range. Buying the big bundle packs is the best deal when new ponies are released and we try to spoil our supporters as best we can:) This project is still new, its not like there are 50,000 being made and sold in stores so they're more like a special mail order than anything else. We do this to bring new and unique characters with meaning, not cheap bootlegs you'd find in a dollar store. Like I said, join the group and keep an eye out for a deal;)
This is hardly a mass produced bootleg. Why don't you two make remake pony moulds and order hair and see how much it costs you?
I wouldn't call them bootlegs as bootlegs are made to be exact replicas of items but cheaper than the original in order to poach profits. These are not copies of existing G1 ponies. They are customs which are not ooak.
To me, it's more similar to recasting a figure. Something thst - for example - the model horse community or doll community would hate because it's not legal.
HQG1 is different because I will only ever find them online. Also they are limited. Much like the Fair exclusives in past years ( which also typically cost $20-25) Even if there is a run of 500, which is a lot compared to a hand made custom, it's still a drop in the bucket compared to the 50,000 run that Hasbro probably makes of each character (200,000 if it's Pinkie ).

Most playline doll communities actually embrace bootlegs.
