Flutter with wings&Box - pricing dilemma
« on: October 26, 2012, 11:05:29 AM »
Hello

I would need help with this very unfortunate accident. I just bought a flutter in box (Forget-Me-Not) from a fellow collector, and she said the pony was MIB. When I received it it was, in fact, an opened MIB - the pony seems OK (though a bit wild in the hair section), but her tail tie-in isn't there, she's missing her sticker, her ribbon, and the plastic band around her face&mane, her mane is mostly loose from inside the neck tie-in as well, and there are creases and a small tear to the back slip of her box (bent and torn from a place, indicating it was removed). And the tapes at the ends of the box have been replaced with different tape. The seller was apparently duped as well, because the previous seller had sold this as NRFB to her, and she had no experience with MIB:s.

Now... do you think $80 is an ok amount for a flutter with original wings, comb and box (a bit battered shape) but missing ribbon and sticker? I mostly collect MIB, so I'm really pondering whether I should just return her. :( I've been off the bandwagon for a while, so I don't really know how high they go.

Cheers,

I'm not sure but $80 seems a bit much to me when the most difficult to find parts are missing..?

I got a factory mint forget me not with perfect hair, accessories in packet (pamphlet sticker, ribbon), hairpick and box (pony was displayed out of box, box liner/ties long gone) for $47 in an ebay auction a couple years ago now. My max bid was $50. She was one of the last loose flutters I needed. (Pricewise, since the high quality replacement wings have been available winged futters have really come down in value. When I first started buying online over a decade ago I was paying $60 plus for the pony with original wings and ribbon, the last few I've bought have been between $15 and $47 loose with wings)

If I was in your shoes, I'd most likely return her..... Seeing as you were after a NRFB and failing that, at least expected factory mint hair and accessories.

I think $80 is too much...your seller should be tracking down the person she bought off too.
Remember kids....don't drink and ebay...

*nod* So I suspected. The seller said the pony like that, opened with original wings, box and comb, was worth well over $100, but I already thought that if I wanted to blow that much money, it wouldn't be this pony, not unless it was NRFB. It's sad that seller will end up with return cost as well, but can't be helped, apparently. :(

Thanks for your help, lovely pony people :)

It sucks, but as a seller you sometimes have to eat a few mistakes... :( things like this, or my expensive error, a batch of shipping underquotes.

I agree with Fantatic Firefly - loose and complete with everything then yes $40ish would be a fair price but missing her sticker and her ribbon no $80 is a little high.

 honey that the purchase didnt turn out as you hoped for!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

*nod* Every seller makes mistakes, and this seller told me she has never owned or seen a MIB before, so of course the mistake was understandable. She was concerned where she would get the money for a refund, so I suggested that if she has a problem with that, then a small partial refund as ponies and not money at all, but she refused that too and just wants her pony back and promised to send a refund when she receives it, so I'm sending the pony back on Monday.

Very sad case. I feel sad for the poor seller for loosing that money to postage and for having bought an opened MOC from someone without knowing it. :(

That sucks, at least the seller is working with you on this.

And when I sell something I always hold on the funds till I know they are happy.
