Don't feel silly! With all the scams and things that *do* happen all the time, it wasn't unreasonable at all to think that's what was going on here. It's totally great that it wasn't, and that your buyer listened and realized! Hooray! :cheer: Seriously, the most I've ever spent on a doll was $120 and OMG I researched for weeks to be sure what to expect and to ensure she was what I wanted!

Really, don't feel bad, you were civil and professional throughout. So glad all turned out well for you!

The Dollhouse / Re: Ever After High Dolls List?

Maddie seems very popular here too! I haven't even seen her on shelves at all lately :D

Chinabun, I think their quality is comparable to at least, and probably better than Barbie--they're made by the same company, Mattel, in fact. EAH hands do pop off--they're designed to, but still, FYI :) And you'd need to be careful with all the tiny accessories they come with; their boxes are marked 6+. Hope that helps a bit! ^.^

Oh no, what a mess! I'm so sorry Sunshine, how absolutely awful :( I hope you can get through to ebay immediately, and definitely explain to them how you researched the doll, and give them the links to the AG doll resources, tell them how you made sure to describe it exactly. It's not your fault if the buyer has her own (totally groundless because she doesn't actually know what she thinks she does about AG) expectations

I wouldn't refund yet, see what other routes you can exhaust through talking to ebay first. If they do insist on a return for refund, make sure you take photos of the box when you receive it, and as you unpack it (you might even do a video)--it has to be exactly your doll in exactly the condition you sent it in.

20
Oh yikes that sounds very iffy indeed :( I would think that since your photos show that the colour of the doll's hair is not in fact "very dark brown", the buyer shouldn't be able to claim "not as described" in order to force the issue :/ I would also think that if the buyer *does* send you a fakie in place of the real doll, you also should not be obligated to issue a refund--you'll be able to show via your photos that it's not the same doll.

I hope this gets sorted out for you quickly, Sunshine  I think calling ebay/paypal tomorrow is the best plan, even if just to get yourself on record as being immediately in touch through official channels and willing to provide all your links and references up front.

The ebay fee on shipping really makes thing extra complicated and awkward, as I'd guess most buyer-only folks know that ebay takes a cut of the sale price, but not that they also take a cut from the shipping costs, and so that fee has to be built in somewhere as well.

And it's so relative to where an item is shipping from... everything is very expensive here in Canada compared to the States, so what a dollar actually covers is very different depending on perspective. ;) I guess the only real answer is that it's a very case by case thing! But I don't think asking a seller politely about it if you feel you've been overcharged should ever count as drama, nor should it stir up any with a good seller :)

Was it an international sale? Coming at it from a Canada-to-US shipping perspective, I think up to $5 on top of the postage is justified. I just sold something on ebay for which I charged $19 shipping: postage was $15.50 and ebay's 10% fee on shipping was $1.90, so that left me $1.60 for packaging materials and the trip to the PO. I always worry that the buyer will be upset though, because the shipping cost isn't the same as the actual postage cost shown on the package... it's really kind of awkward all 'round! :(

Ooh awesome! I wonder how many totally new mediums there'll be!

Thank you all so much for your advice :grouphug: I've thought it through again, with what you've all said in mind, and I decided to cancel the bid and end the listing. Didn't want to push it too close to the 12-hours-prior cutoff for ending a listing early, by waiting for him to reply to a message in the next few hours.

And I'm taking the darn catalogue off to Value Village tomorrow and washing my hands of it, lol! :drunk: Just waaay too many red flags and bad feelings about the whole thing :(

It's the first (and hopefully only) time I've ended a listing early, so I hope there won't be any backlash from ebay against my account. It actually looks like I don't even have to pay a fee, as this is the only time I've done it and the ebay support pages say you get one "freebie" early-ending per year, lol.

I wish there was a better way to set up shipping prices. I really am willing to ship anywhere, but I just can't possibly calculate the cost for every country in the world before listing something. (eta: and I should add, using ebay.com as a Canadian doesn't give me access to any of ebay's own shipping calculations, as I have to choose "shipping from outside US") So I figure out and set the cost to ship to the US, and then in the International Shipping section of my shipping policy, under "Additional ship to locations - buyers contact for costs", I select "Will ship worldwide" and then I figure it out case by case, if and when someone inquires about their country. But from this moment on, I am certainly going to be quoting shipping PLUS tracking every darn time I feel even the slightest bit of trepidation!

Thanks again everyone. :lovey:

Okay. Bear with me, this is complicated, but I really need advice.

I recently put up for auction a vintage catalogue that's 12"x16" and 1" thick and weighs about 1.5 kg. I put it up for $10 starting bid just to see if there was interest, plus set the shipping cost to the US. (I ship worldwide but only set shipping cost to the US in my listings, for everyplace else it's "Will ship worldwide--contact seller" and I calculate it on request.) I figured I'd probably ultimately end up taking this thing to the thrift store because no one would want to pay crazy postage to get it (to the US is $25), but while I had free listing fees I figured it wouldn't hurt to list it a few times first.

The listing ended on October 27 with no bids. Early morning on Oct 28, I got two messages, an hour apart, from 0-feedback members with very recently opened accounts.

From 0-feedback user #1; member since 23-Oct-13 in China
"Got some problems with the paypal account and late for bid......or if no other is bidding, could we make a deal at certain price? What do you think? Btw, I'm in Beijing, China. Thanks."

From 0-feedback user #2; member since 27-Oct-13 in China
"I'm a book lover in China. And I am very interest in your used catalog. But Because the time difference I missed it.Could you sell it to me?Thank you very much."

As I'm certainly not about to make any outside-of-ebay deals, I replied to each with this: "Hi, thanks for the message. I have relisted this item if you are interested in bidding. Please note that as this catalog is very heavy, shipping to China will be around $60." And figured I wouldn't hear from either of them again.

Well, I didn't hear from either of them, and the relisted catalogue again eventually ended with no bids. I relisted it one last time, last Sunday, and it ends tomorrow night (in 26 hours). This afternoon, who should bid on it but 0-feedback user #2. -_-

So here's my problem. If this bidder (let's call him "him") does win (and I'm pretty sure he will, I don't think there's anyone else interested), do I just send it to him as normal, after invoicing him for $10 plus $60 for shipping like I estimated for him?

I am really concerned that this may be a scam of some sort, though, especially because not only is he brand new and has no feedback, but another account from China, made just four days earlier, also asked to buy it off-ebay literally an hour before him. Something about this feels really off to me  >_< I'm worried he will try to claim non-delivery with Paypal and I'll end up having to refund the item price PLUS the shipping and I'll be out $70. Because here's the thing, the $60 shipping I estimated doesn't include tracking, because (stupid me) I didn't even think to look up how much tracking would cost to add (I usually ship without tracking because Canada Post charges an arm and a leg to add it, and I'd never sell anything at all with how expensive it'd be, so I take my chances and have never had a problem til now--and I generally sell smaller lighter items anyway, this is a very heavy exception), since I didn't think in a million years he'd bid on it.

Anyway, I don't much feel like taking my chances this time, so I have sure as heck looked it up, and shipping it with tracking will be $90.

So then. (Bless anyone who's made it this far.) Should I invoice him for the $10 + $90 shipping instead so that I can ship with tracking, thus giving me Paypal protection should he try to claim non-delivery? Will that get me in trouble with ebay since I replied to his earlier message saying shipping to him would be "around $60"? That was my guesstimate, not a firm quote, but I don't know in what light ebay will view it. Can I tell him something like, "Shipping to China is unfortunately actually $90. I know that's extremely expensive, so let me know if you would like to cancel the transaction."

Or, should I just end the listing now and cancel his bid (and immediately take the catalogue to the thrift store because I'm not going through this again)? I don't want to get negative feedback, of course, but at this point really I just really don't want to lose a ton of money :( If I end a listing early/cancel the bid, does that bidder have the opportunity to leave feedback?

I'm going around in circles here trying to figure out how to deal with this. Any help would be SO much appreciated.

Canadian Tire, eh? I'll have to look into that. :)

HMV has the 10" Rarity, AJ and Octavia, TRU and Target have the little ones, and I even saw a little Fluttershy at Co-op of all places!

Niiiice!! I'm (trying to) stick to just the little ones, so I had better not go to HMV to be tempted! My Targets, Walmarts and TRU have been so incredibly awful with their toy stock for the past several weeks/months (such a great time of year for them to not stock any new stuff, right XD) so I'm really glad they're not the only places we can look these days! :)

Pony Corral / Re: Funky Twilight on Taobao

I really like her also.  And I haven't even bought a princess Twilight yet!  I'd be ok both with or without glitter.  I love that touch of blue in her mane!

:like: This! Wow, is she ever gorgeous, I hope she's headed for release!

I keep finding pony stuff this week :faint: I so did not expect to see ponies at Peavey Mart when I went in to get bird seed, but there they were--a box of the small (5") size Funrise plushies, including Applejack, Rarity and Octavia! I haven't seen those three anywhere else yet, and I've been looking for Octavia for weeks. They are pricey for just being the small ones ($10.99 ugh) but I really wanted her, so I caved and now I can stop searching XD

So, just a heads-up for anyone looking for them for Christmas! The toy aisle was surprisingly big. No other pony stuff (edit: whoops, wait, there were some Equestria Girls!), but there were a fair number of Disney/Barbies and older Liv dolls, quite unexpected and fun :)

(Also, check out Canadian Tire too! They have tons of toys right now as well, including ponies, MH dolls, and Pinkie Cooper dolls!)

For those in the US, these ornaments and at least the group stocking have been spotted at Hobby Lobby stores (which is currently running a 50% sale on nearly all Christmas stuff!).

Here's the thread, with pics of other MLP ornaments they carry.
http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,343825.0.html

The glass Rarity ornament can be preordered at Entertainment.com, with some other FiM ball ornaments I haven't seen anywhere else.

This Christmas is shaping up to be a great one for ornaments!!

Awesome! And that thread reminds me, I've also seen the foam Pinkie and Dashie ornaments at Canadian Michaels as well :D

I need that Rarity stocking! I hope it shows up at US Walmarts!

I love that Rarity stocking! I have not seen that one before.

Isn't it just adorable? It's so shiny and pink and pretty!
