Pony Corral / Re: Liquid Fusion alternative in Canada?

I’ve bought it in the store within the last two years. This may not be too helpful at present though, with the stores closed. I find their website is terrible and doesn’t always (ever) bring up all the stock they have in store.

Liquid fusion is available in Canada, I’ve bought it at Michael’s. It’s usually in the adhesives section.

1. Money.

2. I collect only what I love. So there are certain ponies that I will likely never have in my collection, although my esthetic preferences may change over time (which is why I now have sea ponies and princesses in my collection where in years past I never wanted any). I also focus on brushables, although I do have a few plushies and I enjoy miniatures (mommy charms, petites, blind bags).

3. No fakies, with the exception of Takara fakies and some HQG1C. I like several others but not enough to start a secondary collection of them.

4. No duplicate characters. Even my army ponies have strict guidelines. I won’t keep every Snuzzle that I get, but I do want all the Nirvana versions. The Twilight Sparkle army is made up of very different looking designs.

5. Space. I do have a pony room, and so far I still have space, but playsets are a big issue for me (and I love them so much).

6. No .5 generations. It’s not even that I don’t like them, I just don’t feel like they have a place in my collection.  They don’t fit with the other gens.

7. For the most part I limit merchandise to birthday party supplies, stationary, and stickers. Also pamphlets and back cards. This is down to space, because the vintage merch has so many cool pieces and I prefer to focus on brushables instead.

EQG doesn’t even have a rule. I have never been a doll person. I have some of the minis because I find them cute, but even these are likely to be downsized.

Pony Corral / Re: If you could only collect one generation besides G1?

G2, because they got me into pony collecting as an adult, I like their designs (even if their bodies are a bit weird), and I love their play sets and accessories. I wish I’d bought more of them back when they were cheap and plentiful and very few collectors were after them.

I use Flickr to catalogue my collection. I have albums for each generation, also plushies, merch (which I should maybe further divide), mini ponies, etc. it’s really handy for keeping track of whose accessories I have (I have no problem remembering ponies but there’s too many accessories to keep track in my head). The yearly payment if you want more than 1000 photos is really reasonable, as well.

Unicorns. G3’s biggest failing was the lack of more unicorns. Also love the SLH and winter ponies.

Absolutely G1, no question. I got my first pony back in 1983, and while I collect all generations (not the .5s), G1 is easily my favourite.

Argies were my first nirvana love and I’d like to have more of them, but in the last two years I’ve been focusing on Macau ponies.  They’re so pretty.

I would have the collection I have now (always growing), but it would be better organized. It’s not bad, but there are always areas that I’m not happy with how they look. So I suppose I’d just have unlimited time to work on the pony room. Maybe also more space.

Space is an issue, of course, so I stick mainly to birthday party supplies and stationary/stickers, all gens. At some point I’ll actually get the birthday stuff displayed, but the stickers are the bane of my collection existence. I hoard them and never seem to find the time to actually sort through what I have. But I do love them.

The pony room is always a work in progress, but there hasn’t been a lot of progress lately. We’re also slowly resetting our tv area and moving some of our collectibles down there, so there are a bunch of things that need to be packed out of the pony room and moved (secondary collections like the EQG minis, pony books, blind bags, etc. ) But first we need to buy the furniture for the tv area. I need to win the lottery so I have enough time and money for ponies! ;)

The time I found a mint Diamond Dreams in a thrift store for less than $5. She was bagged with another G1 I sold too, so she was free and I made money off the sale too.

Then almost a year to the day afterward finding a 2nd DD at the same thrift store.

This past week I was also able to snag several tiny Paradise Estate accessories for free (2 forks, a comb, a cup, a perfume bottle, a plate, a bottle, and a milk carton).

I love Moondancer’s back card story.  So much sass. I also love how a lot of the early cards tell you a bit about two or three ponies.

Bubbles’ love of mud is reinforced on Applejack’s card too, where Bubbles is looking for a muddy place to fall in.

Pony Corral / Re: How do you clean G-1 ponywear?

I hand wash and I’ll do one piece of clothing at a time in case of die bleeding. Also, if you have a salad spinner, that works really well to get a lot of the excess water out and helps things dry faster.
