Mommy charm discoloration
« on: June 09, 2013, 08:20:42 PM »
I recently stumbled upon four Mommy charms (Curtain Call, Sweet Tune, Yours Too and Morning Sunshine) that I had tucked away in a box and was saddened to see that all four had some significant discoloration.  Is this common with the charms?  Is there any way to restore them?
If wishes were horses, they'd be My Little Ponies.

I have seen rust similar to pony cancer on some of them, but depending on the discolouration it might be fixable... Do you happen to have any pictures of it?

I doubt it's fixable, I'm grasping at straws here.  Here's how the poor things look:

Oh dear :(

Unfortunately yes, as Jinxxy says, they can be prone to age marks. And that is what these look to be. The age marks cause the colour to blotch and bleach. It seems particularly prone in the yellow, white and blue ponies for some reason. I am so sorry it has happened - I have had it happen with a couple of mine over the years as well.

Aw man, yes that does stink :( At least most of the marks are on the NDS anyways.. and these ponies definitely have distinct display and non display sides!

I have seen people make is with Removezit, but often that can do damage to the pony as well and I'd only use it as a very last resort.

Some other kinda good news is that you can do a FBR on these more easily than a regular pony, but it does hurt the value.

Is it catching?  I was thinking of stringing them up and hanging them as decoration on my wall where they are not quite as noticeable but still add pony allure but I do have ponies in my studio and I don't want some evil age spot spore to infect my other ponies.

No I don't think its catching - its the plastic breaking down. And you are probably seeing it in a batch because perhaps of the conditions in which they were manufactured or stored.

Boo, sorry to hear.

What about painting them as customs, or using them as keyring fobs? At least they'll get some sort of use.
