I might be the minority but I actually REALLY love this castle and the color scheme! I really like the blue, red, and yellow color scheme of the set, it seems like these colors are more 'regal' and 'royal' for some reason. I also think it's really cute and unique and I can't WAIT to get it!It does look like luna.

I'm not really impressed with G4 playsets in general. Well that's a very good point. I am not a big fan of the colors myself- but I guess kids probably are drawn to bright colors- and I certainly DON'T object to the castle not being pink- which is the color it probably would have been if not primary colored (personally I'd prefer castle colored...)

You'll be seeing everything that is "new" or latest to the line, whether it's been out/announced for a while or not. We may have seen Ponyville Newsmaker and the others half a year ago, but they are still the "latest" additions to the minifigure sets line and what's currently on the market. Same with the basic Rainbow Rocks EQG dolls - they'll have been out for a while by the time the fair rolls around but they are still the newest additions to the EQG line, so they get the spotlight.

I am starting to think ponies are like the Romans or the British...just continuing expanding, taking over new lands/countries, installing their own leaders and declaring allegiance toRomeCanterlot.

I'll probably try to get the Photo Finish & Octavia ponies. I'm not sure how I feel about the breezies yet, or those snowglobe princesses. There are only 4 new characters in bb wave 10. I couldn't care less about the pop ponies, rainbow mane 6, or any of the dolls.

-Clear princesses (would rather see the wings match better)
-There's more than 0 new brushables
-The breezies are cute (I don't care for the G3 breezies)
And dislike:
-Rehashes everywhere!
-Heavy focus on EQG dolls
-The graffiti/lingerie-painted ponies on the TRU table
-Only 2 new ponies, packaged in with the dolls
Overall from the stuff shown, I'd rate them a 2/10 for this year.
I wonder if the LPS booth is set up yet, I didn't see anything yet and even had trouble finding pics last year.

30 bucks saying that if EQG does end up replacing MLP it won't last very long. They really can't compete with MH in terms of articulation and number of characters. I think one of the appealing things about MH is that they're always releasing new characters, and they're all different - werewolves, spiders, witches. EQG is just people with pony ears over and over (and several of the same characters over and over)
Man, is there a mass petition for Hasbro to focus on the freaking brushable ponies again? I'm tired of seeing cool (and expensive) blindbag sets leaving brushables in the dust, and now we have EQG to compete with. It really sucks.

Personally I'm not Buying the EQGs.. in fact I'm not even buying them to get the ponies that come with them! Mostly other than a Prince Twilight that comes with Spike (because I needed Twilight in that mold) I've not really bought any G4s... been going and buying some of the Lalaloopsy ponies instead.. which oddly enough those ponies are actually pretty much cleaned out in the closest walmart to me... while the MLP section still has a lot of ponies.. Seriously though I'm hoping to see more ponies soon out of this... and not packs that come with a lot of repeat poniesnothing wanted here. mane six makes me want to vomit as much as bore seven did and these dolls have no interest at all for me. Not only are we seeing a re-use of the Lyrica mold for what looks like an Amethyst Star, that green boy in the back also looks somewhat like a set of seven ponies we've been seeing in the blind bag threads. They seem to be a set of seven ponies with color combos that cycle between them--say, we've seen both a black and purple boy, and a black and purple Pinkie mold. Some people have speculated that they're not fakies but instead a "customize your own" blind bag set--which would be fantastic!
That only encourages them to keep making gimmicks. I can't get over feeling like she's just an odd rarity, but i do hope we'll see some more new ones to go with her! god forbid maybe an entire new wave WITHOUT the mane 6!I thought so too, but look at that strawberry cutie mark! :D It's never been on a G4 pony before, so at the very least there's some pony coming out with a strawberry.

Personally I am NOT a doll buyer.. No space and no interest, the only dolls I bought was the Pinkie Coopers and I only bought 2 and really don't have much interest in them. Pretty much in those sets you are buying the doll and the pony is supposed to be a bonus... I much rather pay for the pony than the doll =/ it's not cool to have to pay for something you don't want in the first place just to get the item in the package you do want.Is 'having to buy a doll' for a pony really so painful? I agree. The dolls are hideous in my opinion, and way overpriced. If I wanted a pony which came packaged with one of the dolls (luckily I do not) I would be well unimpressed if I had to buy a doll to get the pony.

Looking through the new HD pictures, I do not think they had the entire "Pony" range there. Reporters from one of the overseas fairs mentioned more blind bag sized packs and a restaurant playset with Pinkie and Mrs. Cake. I also do not see the translucent Luna or Twilight originally pictured with the big castle. That "special edition" Twilight displayed with the castle looks just like the 10 Princess Twilight Sparkles already released.... >_<
I am truly hoping we will see more and they were just pushing Equestria Girls and Pops as they are new. Three new brushables this year as opposed to the five displayed last year... The new Equestria Girls are vastly improved; however, they won't hold a candle to the competition until Hasbro bites the bullet and articulates them... They've actually regressed in that aspect.

I am glad we finally have some sense of scale for the playset. Does look like it will work with the playful sized ponies. This is the thing that I am officially most excited about. I really wish they would make TS's library, though I know it is unlikely since she is now getting her own castle.

It may be that the mould works better with the gimmick. I mean that because of the way the pony has to be manufactured in order for the "snow globe" to work, that they "had" to use the larger mould because the smaller moulds were *too* small.

This is just a new branch of Hasbro :P they could easily make new ponies using the multiple BBs as inspiration but choose not to :(

True I just wish they had used different characters and not attached the My Little Pony title, it should just be called Equestria Girls and not My Little Pony Equestria Girls I hope eventually it will lose the My Little Pony part since it doesn't need it anymore. Yes I understand FIM is still a show with only ponies, but I'm disappointed and sad that the humans only get to be in theaters and get a theatrical release when ponies do not, my first biggest issue, second is seeing how much time and effort into new EQG characters at this toy fair and giving them tons of new characters from the show and not from the show, when the only new pony we got is Holly Dash as a single, and breezies paired with mane 6....

there was soemone acutly int hsi THRAD asking if people hated EDQ dolls. so those of us who dont like it ar ALLOWED to say and awnser the quesiton. thank you very much. and it might be annoying but we have jsut as much right to say we hate it just as much as you all have the right to say you love it... everyone ahs there own toughts and likes and when soemone directly asks if there is a hate or not.. question. then you have to be ready for the awnsers.

You have no idea how much stuff we need to import these days and how lucky you are you can just walk into a store and get what you want. Not just the toys but merchandise too. Heck, we hardly got any new characters this year at all!

IIRC, Ploomette, Skywishes and Starswirl were actually *European* exclusives - at least I never saw any of them over here.

It has been explained earlier in the thread when you asked before. It was a preview day - a day for journalists/bloggers/press to get in and get the pitch from brands. No public allowed.
The remaining actual Fair days will be when buyers and the public are in and looking around.
As mentioned, there will be nothing extra added now - everything which is going to be shown is available on preview day - thats the whole point in it.

I can accept that fashion dolls are popular at a certain age demographic, that's fine. 41 dolls is a LOT to release in a spinoff of a toyline that's supposed to be about equines, but whatever. I can save money I need to spend on other things (like a mortgage!)

Why exactly has playing with little make-believe HORSES gone "out to pasture"? It seemed like it was a phase that most children went through, effeminate or not, we all wanted to play with HORSES. Why do children not want to pretend this scenario anymore? I mean, it was a legitimate thing for like... decades! Now all of a sudden, pretend animal-care play is not even "normal" anymore. Everything is either about FASHION or TECHNOLOGY. :(

I've been wondering if dolls are just more profitable for Hasbro at the moment. Brushables have to be kept at a low cost, since most people are going to freak if they get too high (I know I left the Through the Mirror exclusives behind at Walmart since I didn't think a pony and dress was worth $13!!!). Dolls are more expensive, but I think a lot of people would see them as "more bang for your buck". Plus, I don't often see people (other than myself) who go in and buy 5 brushables at a time. But 5 brushables is the price of one doll. Whereas a person might buy one or two ponies and combine them with something else for a kid, they could just buy one doll, and all that money would go to Hasbro for sure. I can definitely see why they might think that EG is just a better business choice if this is how the economics in this area is working.
Even the Lalaloopsy pony line is priced a bit higher than the MLP line (at least in Canada). So Hasbro might be making up their costs with add-ons and multi-packs. Unfortunately, few of us seem to like those :S

I have never ever seen talking Nigthmare Moon in German stores. Never ever seen the favorites pack. I had to buy Rainbow Flash, Minty and Wysteria for the same prices (and maybe more because of shipping fees) as you.
I get lots of Americans are upset that there were Euro brushies, but please think how often us non-Americans have to import things. I have lost a lot of money because things got lost in the mail or simply because the shipping fees were so goddamn high.

I gotta say that I'm not loving the castle.Really? I always felt the NY Toy Fair wasn't as locked down. There were tons of images the last couple of years.
Unsurprisingly- there seem to be far fewer peeks into the NY Toyfair stuff (which is more locked down) than the UK ToyFair.
It is a lot harder for a regular person to see stuff at the NY Toy Fair- I think the only people sneaking (and I do mean sneaking) pictures of the stuffs are people with Press passes and credentials- and even those are getting harder to get these days. I got in with a badge from a toy buyer two years back and saw absolutely nothing...
A family friend is in the toy marketing business and she just told me that ToyFair USED to be the big thing- but now most transactions with the buyers (ie Walmart, Target, etc.) happen by appointment- throughout the year. Toyfair isn't what it used to be. And there is a lot more lockdown about new ideas and toys until almost final production because of the terrible problems with toy companies stealing each other's ideas.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if some better photos leak out from some sneaky press person with a stealth camera...

-Accurate rainbow power ponies!!!
-2 Holly Dash, one to keep pristine and one to take the dots off of
-All the breezies I can buy (for baits as well as collection)
-Probably a couple snowglobe ponies
-Possibly that Octavia doll+pony
-We'll see how the new character dolls look in box, but I'm not ruling out the possibility that I'll want them

They seem to have improved on the quality of the dolls (other than the articulation but there are plenty of other current doll lines that don't either like Moxie Girls and some of the Barbie lines) and the only disappointment I have is there were no Equestria Boys. I would have loved a Flash Sentry or Big Mac doll. Especially if it came with a pony. *sighs*

Nah...for me I still dont get it. The article just expands on why Hasbro and Mattel and the likes have launched new "skimpier" and fashion focused doll lines; it doesnt explain the distinct move away from MLP [as in ponies]. Hasbro were probably always going to come out with something to complete with MH. Traditionally, although they have largely flopped in comparison to Mattel who have always dominated the doll line, Hasbro have had fashion dolls in the past. And the success of MLP, an already established and incredibly successful brand probably encouraged them to use it as a platform for the line rather than start a brand new standalone line which would have to prove and pitch itself.
MLP has never been about appealing to the 6+ bracket. In fact research has shown that 6 is the age at which children will walk away from brands which appealed to them at 3 years old. In the last 2 decades this age point has decreased from 9 to 6 years old. Therefore traditionally the brands which continued to appeal to the 6 to 9 market [Barbie and MLP] are no longer keeping the focus of children past 6 years old. MH and EQG are an attempt to offer something to the market that they have been loosing.
Hasbro dont need to appeal to that 4 year old in 3 years time because they expect her to have already moved on to something else.This almost applies to my DD9. She has always sorta liked MLP because I did, and when EQG launched she was head first into Monster High. She likes Barbie but it is more novelty than a must have. Granted she didn't know she was getting the Wedding Castle for Christmas Or EQG for that matter, but once she did boy howdy did she really like it! Now MLP is HER brand. Just like G1 is MY brand of MLP. Heck she was telling me the characters names and relationships to each other! She really likes the ponies now, and wants a great deal of the EQG stuff out now. Though she wasn't too sure about the Toy Fair stuff, we both OOOH'ed over the rainbow castle and she is already making plans for it in her room.
Personally, I think they could effectively still keep EQG dolls and New Single Brushable Characters in Ponies all at the same time. Now I'm not a kid and I don't have a kid but if I was one and saw a new character in the MLP line as a single, I'd be all for it. I do think that Hasbro just has the mind set that little kids just don't care for really anything that isn't in the show =/ Granted some just don't care but if they want a pony I don't think the fact that said pony really isn't in the show isn't going to stop them from getting the pony.

Unfortunately, I think EQG sell more than the regular MLP at retail atm, which is why Hasbro foolishly(short term thinking) shifted it's focus away from the actual MLP line for the forseeable future.Why exactly has playing with little make-believe HORSES gone "out to pasture"? It seemed like it was a phase that most children went through, effeminate or not, we all wanted to play with HORSES. Why do children not want to pretend this scenario anymore? I mean, it was a legitimate thing for like... decades! Now all of a sudden, pretend animal-care play is not even "normal" anymore. Everything is either about FASHION or TECHNOLOGY. :(
I have three nieces and they have all gone through "OMG HORSES" phases. Heck, the two younger ones are still in it . . . and the oldest one, when it came time to pick colleges, really really wanted to go to this obscure one where everyone got to care for their own horse.
It is absolutely not a change in the appeal of horses, it's that Hasbro no longer knows how to harness (har har) the market.
IMO, they treat MLP like it's a cheap line and so people treat it like it's a cheap line. Single ponies are still $5 each . . . Well, that is ridiculous IMO. In 1982 they were that price, but $5 in 1982 was worth $12 in today's money. They shrank down the ponies and cut every corner to keep the price low, but when push comes to shove, kids DO notice quality, even if they can't articulate what they're seeing.
It's the whole reason My Little Pony was never challenged by fakies; My Little Pony had carefully planned sets, My Little Pony had carefully painted symbols, My Little Pony had good quality plastic, My Little Pony had gorgeous backcard art, My Little Pony had a story for each pony. Those are all part of MARKETING, just as much as "release the same six characters a billion times because they're the focus of the show", only Hasbro doesn't seem to realize it.
This is also the reason Monster High dolls trump EQG dolls. Monster High has the quality . . . and to top it off, they are nearly the same price as EQG dolls. I truly think it is foolish of Hasbro to focus so much on this aspect of the line. They know how to market ponies, if they'd only look at their past 30 years. They have NEVER been great shakes for fashion dolls. They had Jem for a couple years . . . What was before that, Maxie, wasn't it?

And I really hate that companies are choosing to migrate to the doll market; not all little girls like dolls and it seems like the alternative options for are becoming rarer.
I think this is what upsets me the most about the whole EQG business; I was one of those little girls who didn't like dolls and was lucky to grow up during a time when animal figurines were more popular than they are now. It was disappointing enough as a kid to get dolls from relatives who either didn't know me well (or were just insistent that girls should play with dolls); this is just going to make it more confusing and frustrating for any girl with other interests, since parents and others will just see the "Pony" branding. Given the increased focus on and criticism of stereotyping among "girl" and "boy" toys, it also seems like a really backwards move to limit the market like this, especially for a brand whose fiction appeals to such a wide swath of demographics. But I agree that it'll probably fail, anyway- EQG is riding on the strength of the "My Little Pony" brand, but I don't see My Little Pony staying strong unless they put at least SOME effort into the pony side of things.

Yeah, I would definitely mind the dolls less if Hasbro at least pretended they still cared about the actual ponies and if the dolls didn't have every single thing I loathe about doll toys - same face, same stick-thin bodies, all wearing make-up and skirts and other traditionally feminine clothing... - considering how the film's core message is "we're outwardly different but we can still be friends" it's kind of horrifically hypocritical to make the tie-in toys all look physically identical...I swear the people in charge of designing the toys have never actually watched a single episode of FiM or the EqG film or even had any of the important traits explained to them...

I was actually referring mostly to the show itself, and was talking to the person whose post I quoted originally. I didn't mean to make a mess out of things or be taken out of context like this. Everyone is of course fine to voice their opinions, and I do agree they should be releasing more ponies than they have been. :)at least the show is still getting new episodes at all. I'd just like to point out that the Arena as a majority, focuses on the toys that we collect more than the show that goes with the toys. Yes the FiM cartoon is still going strong and has way more compared to EQG, but as far as the toys that we COLLECT there are way less than there could be. Yes it might be true that Hasbro is making a choice to make more dolls than ponies, but as far as I know it's never been clearly stated that EQG has a totally different branch than MLP or even FiM.
This thread is also about the toys, not the shows. I think the EQG movie is charming and I do enjoy it, but I would prefer to COLLECT ponies.

Hm, is it just me or do most of the FS ponies there look like they're using the old molds? I might not have to buy old releases after all :DI really hope that one is just a prototype, it doesn't fit her well at all! The Luna outside the packaging has normal wings obscured by all that hair.
As much as I like the Snowglobe ponies... why in the world did they give Luna yellow wings? It makes absolutely no sense. :huh:
I hope that they eventually make pony toys of the new dolls we see... some of the colour combinations are really pretty.

Oh my gosh, there are SO many new EQG characters! And like, 3 new pony brushables... :(
Don't get me wrong, I actually have a few EQG dolls. But they are just so cheaply made. Their hair is sparsely rooted, the dolls have tons of factory errors and misprints (though so do the pony brushables, thanks Hasbro), they have little to no articulation (does even the cheapest Barbie in the world not have any articulation?), and they are way too expensive to justify all of that. It still blows my mind that they're the same price as MH dolls when some of them have painted on clothes, they all have the same face mold, their clothes are cheaply made and you can't even pose them. Just... what.
I am very excited for the Octavia, Photo Finish, and Holly Dash brushables, though. I'll just leave it at that for now.

I wondered if they will do a Celestia and Luna with the fabric wings like they did for Cadance and Twilight (Fantastic Flutters)...I really like those. Not anytime soon judging by what we see here it seems.

After seeing what's been revealed, I too am disaapointed about the focus on EQG compared to the actual ponies. I can understand doing a sister line with EQG, but this is a bummer. I dont mind having to buy an EQG doll to get the pony, but I wish I/we didnt have to do that in order to get a new pony brushable/figure. ^^;May I see a link to the MH stuff? :)
I think I'd only get Holly Dash, a few BBs, the snow globe ponies, maybe the EQG dolls that have the pony with it (and just sell the dolls on eBay or something)

They aren't molded on (which is what Mattel does for their Disney Princess dolls) but rubber clothes like Polly Pocket.

I wonder how big those sitting RD and Pinkie plushies are in front of her. I saw the smaller sitting ones already, but the plush pictured seem large for some reason... maybe it's the tags, they look small around their necks (the detailing on the eyes seems greater, too). I hope they are bigger :D I need a Fluttershy

Why are the new dolls lacking articulation? Maybe those ones sold better than the "deluxe" dolls. I guess three year olds (my guess as to who is pointing and wanting these dolls) don't really notice.

Luckily, she prefers ponies (although it's funny, but she prefers the princess size much better than the tiny ones- I do think that Hasbro's playful size are too small, while the fashion style are a bit too large- a seven year old wants something right in between...
The Rarity and Applejack keychains spend years in limbo, then a couple months after finally showing up, they're planned to be rereleased with a metallic finish? Sure, why not. At least there's one Applejack product on the way...

I dunno, wasn't the point of the ponies having such varied personalities the point, so as to appeal to all children, including the bookish, quiet, and more "adult" ones? Though, Hasbro's obsession with pink and Pinkie Pie suggests their marketing department have their heads firmly stuffed into traditional gender stuff so I shouldn't be surprised if they think little girls won't want a character that reads :lol:
Also- is it just me or do these Snowglobe ponies appear to be in different sizes? Is that a smaller version of Celestia in the box- and a larger one loose? Or maybe the one loose is just a prototype? (Noting the difference between the solid plastic wings and clear wings)

Especially when the smaller size seems to have the solid wings and the larger size the translucent wings? And doesn't the mold for the larger one- look just a little more detailed? (May be imagining things here)

Where are you getting styling size Cadence from? Both of the ponies in that photo are Twilight.
Oh I thought it was Cadance too! But yeah, it looks like it was just a trick of the light, making the Twilight-out-of-the-box a different color than the Twilight-in-the-box. But the one that looks like Cadance has Twilight's crown and the exact same accessories.

Poor AJ ;_; She's my favorite. She's part of a visibly close family, and is a hard working type who gets things DONE. Maybe they need to push that a little more in the merch? "Family togetherness" is a concept the kiddies likes, yes? Though the Happy Family dolls kind of fizzled...
I love the idea of the snowglobe ponies, but I'll wait to still them in person. The colors being off actually bugs me MORE on these.
Might dip into the EQG dolls for Photo Finish and Octavia brushab-I mean, dolls. XD;;
Other than that's it all about Holly Dash and the BBs. If the rainbow singles were more about coloful hair and marking and less about tinsel, I'd get Rarity and AJ but...eh.
