I finished Sailor Stars part 2.
Spoiler
I really  enjoyed it but I was surprised that Usagi was nude for most of the last episode.

Ponyfan

Finally gave up on finding this in person and ordered it from Amazon.  It should be here Tuesday.

Don't forget to check out the RightStuf Anime sale!  They've got loads of things but be sure to compare the prices with Sentai Filmworks' holiday sale!

I'm glad your copy of Sailor Stars part 2 will arrive soon. :) I think you will enjoy the most of the episodes. the last few episodes are intense.

Has anyone watched Millilumen Actress?

Ponyfan

I have watched Millennium Actress but it has been a long time.  I don't remember much about it because it's been so long.

Question for anime fans who know a bit about Japanese:

I'm writing a fanfic where a Japanese character (Miko from Transformers Prime) needs to use an alias, and she seems the type to just rip a name from her favorite anime.  ;)

I've got a couple questions!

1.  In Japanese, do people introduce themself with surname first (like I think they do in Mandarin(?)) or is it first-name first like in English?  Wondering this because I've been looking up the Japanese names of anime characters and I'm like . . . "Which of these is the surname, tho?".

2.  I looked up Spike from Cowboy Bebop and his Japanese name is apparently Supaiku Supīgeru.  Supaiku sounds like a "Spike" so I'm thinking that is his first name?  Y/N?

3.  Would Supaiku be a gender neutral name or is it specifically a guy's name?  And if it's a guy's name, would there be a way to make it gendered as female instead?

Note that I've really only learned any Japanese in my three years of high school and I graduated years ago and haven't really worked on it further since.... but I will try to help.

1. I think it's generally last name then first name with introductions? At least, that's what it seems to be from my anime watching experience. Usually if a character is introducing themselves to another they'll say their last name then first.

2. Have not seen Cowboy Bebop, but "Supaiku" would just be the literal romanization of "スパイク", which is just the English word/name "Spike" written in Katakana. While I've not seen the show, from a quick Google search it definitely seems to be his first name.

3. It's not a Japanese name, rather just the English word/name written in Japanese characters. I haven't really ever heard the name Spike used for female characters, but you can do whatever you want.

Pretty much echoing what was said above.

For your future reference, Wikipedia generally westernises name order but the kanji and the romanisation is not usually westernised and gives you the actual order. Not 100% but a good tip.

But since this is a western name, the character would probably use the western order. It's not uncommon for western names to be given in the order we expect, even while Japanese ones are given the other way around.

And Supaiku would just be Spike, as you suggest. Since it's not a Japanese name, it's really on you to decide if you want to re-gender it, or change it, or use it as a nickname, or whatever. There are a lot of Japanese names that can be either male or female but also a fair number that generally aren't, but this isn't that kind of a problem so you're safe :)

(As a case in point, Miko is a fairly nailed on female name).

I was looking at something on Amazon.com today and saw that the second part of the 2019 Fruits Basket will be released on Blu/Ray DVD in the US in Feb 2020.

I've watched a couple more of the new Fruits Basket episodes. :) and am also still rewatching Yona of the Dawn.

Has anyone seen Weathering with you? It hasn't been officially released in the US yet but it looks interesting.

I just watched The Garden of Words but I found it disappointing. It's not one that I see myself rewatching.

I also watched a few more episodes of Diamond no Ace.

I've seen BnHA. I'm not super fanatical about it - I don't like any of the villain characters, but the school class amuse me. Though I'm not caught up with the newest series and have heard mixed stuff about it.

I've finished watching Haikyuu and started watching Hoshiai no Sora (which is pretty hardcore for a sports anime, and which Funimation didn't want me to watch in Japanese for some reason but I eventually got it to work on my tablet..sigh)

I liked My Hero Academia but it is a long one, 3 seasons on DVD so far and I know there's at least a 4th one on Adult Swim right now.

I just finished watching Sailor Moon Stars Pt 2 and I am now watching Glass Mask.
