Hi pony friends!

gwenskylar:
Hello everybody!
I’m Gwen, I am 25 and have been collecting my little pony for about a year now.  Last year I watched a YouTube video by Jenny Nicholson about the Brony fandom wherein she talks about G1 pony collecting and it send me down a path of learning about the collectors community out there.  I had some G3 my little ponies as a kid and it reminded me of how much I loved them.  The first three ponies I purchased for myself as an adult were HQG1Cs and a Basic Fun Blue Belle because I was too nervous to even handle a pony from the 80s; they seemed so precious I was nervous to even handle one!

Now I have around 35 ponies and have worked on a couple of “pony projects”.  My first goal was to collect some of the G3 Disney Build a Princess Pony collection and photograph them at Disney Springs in front of the store where they were originally sold.  And my second more ambitious project has been collecting the full set of TAF sunshine ponies and restoring/rehairing them.  They were “bait” quality so it’s been a learning curve but I’m having a lot of fun.

I live on the gulf coast of Florida, last year was terrifying and horribly difficult with the hurricane season we had.  I was flooded in during Debbie, and my area took a direct hit from Milton, my neighbourhood is still damaged with downed streetlights, stop signs, missing trees, and tarps on every third roof.  Ponies brought me so much comfort during that time, I remember listening to the wind howling and waiting in the bathroom nervously styling pony hair in rollers.  It gave me something positive and wholesome to do in that time instead of doomscrolling or drinking and only making my anxieties worse.

I apologize for the sad story but pony collecting has added a lot of joy to my life and it has helped me get through some hard times.  I’m excited to join this community online and share the love with other pony collectors out there, thank you for having me.

Sorry to hear you've been going through it, I can definetly relate to scrolling and drinking to escape tough feelings and situations...but the good news is that you're in the right place!Welcome to the Arena! It's great to have an outlet or a hobby where the purpose is to enjoy yourself and create a space where you just get to be joyful, come what may. Ponies are sure to bring cheer and boost our spirits. ^_^

It sounds like you've got some great porjects and a clear vision for your next steps in your collection, and there's tons of potential to discover something new on these forums. Check out community events, facebook groups, forum boards, etc. to connect with other collectors.
