I understand having content connected  within Hasbro will limit my options. However, if i ditch their stuff, and make up all my own... The sky will be my limit to explore.. And open my options to other entertainment industries who just might want to take The story further..

Presenting the Macical Mystical Kindom of  LongHeartStone...
 Majestic, Beautiful, yet very powerful. Full of mystic Magic and Wonder..
Meadow Cove.. The lands of the unicorns ,  only a few Pegasus ponies live among the unicorns, where on the top of the hill near the rockey cliff of the sea stands a tall majectic beautiful stone castle.   Where a Majestic And Beautiful Allicorn Queen named LightRay decorated in a beautiful birthmarks  Ruled all over the lands of  LongHeartStone..
MountStoneMore a land covered in clouds that blanket the earth and float low to the ground Ruled by a Unicorn Prince named Ice Flash.. Some of the Pegasus are not happy being ruled by a unicorn, so this can cause a situation to occurs.. Some where so unhappy with their Prince being a unicorn that they  moved to Meadow Cove, they rather live under the rule of a Pegasus pony even though the queen had a horn She at least has wings..
A graceful waterfall  that flows down into a giant really deep lake that flows out to sea... Moon Mist Valley ruled by the Merpony Queen names Sea Mist Swirl..  Her subject the merponies, have magics healing powers, they heal the earth dewellers and the creatures of the lake, a few did wonder out of their safe kingdom out to explore the sea, however sadly never were herd or seen from again..
BloomGreen Fields a beautiful luscious land, scattered with farm fields, close to the end of the land a tall classic old castle made of Stone  Ruled by an Earth pony Prince VineTree with magic mistic healing powers that helps rejuivinate the land , preserving the nutrient of the soil to keep the vegitation freash and healthy..
Cavern Caves is the home of the Bat ponies Ruled by the Bat king  Name WiseWish he has the magic to help ponies wake up from their dreams, and appear to them in a magic mistic cloud, to give wise advice and guidance..  When Night Wing is let go from his duty in the Wild Lands, and with Star Shine being more pony, dragon like her dragon pony mother, yet still have bat pony blood..  Her father moves to Meadow Cove . To live among the Unicorns and raise his daughte in their new home....this creates an uneasiness to some of the locals who do not like living amon the bat ponies...and with Star Shine being so different from everyone else..
Flame Mountain, Land of the Deadly and Dangerous Dragons, Ruled by Storm Cloudstone an island with a large volcano into the middle of it surrounded by small islands where dragons claim their territory. Some times battles occur fighting for the best islands to nest and make their homes..    After all Dragons main Food source is Fish.  .however they sometimes venture in the wild lands for the rare tasty treat of ponies.  Since the odd pony has the misfortune of wandering off from the lands of the ponies into the Wild Lands..
Lands Of Sand a Kingom in the middle of a desert, Ruled By a Dashing yet Braggy Wealthy Camel Prince Named  Sand Stone... His subject are the camels that roam the lands and live among the sandy desert..  He loves Exocit Strange creatures from different lands and pays handsomly for strange exocit creature, the more rare and exotic the better..
A Dark Unicron Snake like Queen named, Shimmer Slither, that lives on an island right in the middle of the kingom, she is Jealous of LightRays many Beautiful Birthmark, and her lack of birthmarks, and send her minions the snakes ponies  to cause trouble in the kindom.
An Alicorn King named Blizzard Stormhoof where he ruled the kingdom FrostSnapWoods,  his Subjets the Ice ponies. obsessed into turning the beautiful kingdom for LongHeartStone to a frozen land of ice and snow.  Blizzard Stormhoof has a major crush on LightRay and is obsessed to make her his Queen.. He sings too.
She will be mine yes siree
She will be mine you will see,
A beauty like she
A hansome like me
she will take my hand,
we will rule the land
You will see..

What a crazy obsessed stalker... Well You need a crazy in every story.. I guess..

...Here is the story about the birthmarks of the ponies...

And the birth mark idea is great, ponies can be born with a birth mark anywhere on their body., some can even be born without one.. And be made fun of because of them being birthmark less..  Only ponies of royal blood are born with more than one birth mark. When Star Shine come to class with 3 birth marks the ponies are consumed with jealousy, she is so mishapen because of her physical looks , the ponies are really mean to her,, only ponies with more than one birthmark are totality, she is not of royal blood, seeing her with more than one sparks jealousely., so it is because of this she struggles to try and fit in.
.......The Traditions and holidays of the ponies....

The Festival of lights and the harvest of fun. Being a special event for ponies all across the lands, celebrating the truce of the lands, traveling from afar  coming together celebrating the season of harvest.
The holy tradition holidays of the ''The Star of Life.'' Where the ponies celebrate with their close friends and family.  Decorate a tree and  exchange gifts with close friends and family..
We can even have BirthMark day of celebration... Where they have dancing, games and Prizes.Contest and fun. The foals and fillies would tease the unluckey few, who are cutie mark less.
Winter Chill Fest a wonderful day to celebrate the wonder and beauty of winter..
And Kicking off the first day of Summer with Splash Day. A day of fun in the sun..

Maybe even a Orphanage...for the the fillies and foal's who have no home, or they been abandon . Or they were found parent less..
Here is an example of one of my character Flame Heart...
She is a unicorn, she loves to dance, be  a tease at times, and loves to hulla hoop.  she loves ribbons in her mane and flowers in her hair.. She became orphaned when a  mysterious deasease, in her town, Rain Drop Falls, kills the older ponies, leaving only the young ones left, to fend for them selves. The guards from , were dispatched to the communities and towns that were  most affected by this unexplained illness, to find any Survivors, She was one of the many young foals/fillies found. She was sent to live in an orphanage in Meadow Cove..
......Maybe create a New Villain named ...   Dark Cloud...  with mystic magc , Jealous of the ponies with  birthmarks, he  steals the birthmarks of the ponies and places them his special Scrapbook..

Bubble Blue is a pony... Unicorn with one long cutiemark cluster of bubbles on his front right hoof

The Pegasus Express is a mail delivery service run By the Pegasus ponies sending mail all across the land of Long Heart Stone..

Tree Top Hills is a small lumber village... And our story starts.  this is were Crystal Frost Mother was born...
Lake Camp Cloud is a small filliy and foal Camp site near a lake shaped like a cloud.

Yes i written and thought about all this right after your amazing Advice..

To honor everyone here I will work the story of the Kingdom of LongHeartStone.. And intertwine Crystal frost into the tale.

Got the imagination got the illustration Skills  got the power to rime,. Crystal Frost in my core Character in the story that will help make this new Kingdom sparkle and shine..

My spouse calls me crazy,  he just only adds fuel to the fire to keep me writing more..

I started out with a tiny puddle of water, and it just burst into a massive  Epic Ocean. .

I love Poetry  I love to Illustrate.. Now I love writing stories..

here Is Chapter 1 for you to read...

In the middle of the woods, Deep in the thick forest of Esquestria,  a small lumber Village, busled  with earth ponies. They tilled the land, turning trees into lumber, distributing, the wood, being used, to build the homes for the ponies, all across of Equestria


''where did he go this time'' carrying her saddle bag Dew Drop walks through the small village.


inside the village a small local grocery store, owned by MR and MRS. Shops,  sold a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.


A post office called, Pegasus Express, run by Stamp Wells, where flying ponies would come and go delivering parcels and mail to the locals


A small local paper called, News and Views. written, edited, photographed , by Flash dash the one and only reporter in the community..


A small school house nestled down by the brook, teaming with aquatic life, run my Miss Glass, where fillies and foal's would go to learn math, how to read, write, spell, and make friends.


looking past the the school house, walking by the tall thick trees, Dew Drop notices a cleared path, she turns to follow the path and disappears into the thick treed forest...

 

In a valley, stumps surrounding  the lumber yard , timber stacked in piles.   The pony wood cutting crew, tired from cutting down trees all morning,  were sitting down to a much deserved lunch break.  Munch Munch Crunch chatting up a storm.


Timber ''anyone going to the family picnic the community is having this weekend.?''


Tree Cutter, looking nervously at his wind up watch, trying hard to keep track of time''  Can't my wife's mother in law is coming over to see the twins,  that reminds me I have to pick her after work, the stage coach is expected to arrive later today.''


Tall Trees,'' Not this time, I promised the kids I would help them with building a tree house, on the Big Oak Tree in our back yard.''


Roots, ''my Wife is due to have our 5th baby soon, she is quite cranky and craving all kinds of weird foods, last night she sent me  to the shop, to pick up apples and bean bread, they do not even sell apple bean bread.. why can't she crave something normal.''


Splash '' My wife been nagging me to take her to the city lately, last time we went, she went on some crazy shopping spree, thank goodness the kids came, kept her preoccupied,  and I finally did not come home broke. ''


Timber,'' Just bring the kids again.. ''


Splash '' She wants to leave them with he sister Sweet Shine. this time''


snoring sounds interrupted the conversation, the stations looked over at the direction of the sound, Timber gets up and walks near Stomper, napping on the ground face in his bowl of oatmeal.


Timber,'' Stomper.''


Stomper... snore


Timber a little louder ''Stomper''


Stomper... snore.


Timber, Getting annoyed, ''STOMPER !''


Freaked out, stomper quickly lifts his head, oatmeal dripping from the side of his face,  ''don't cry daddy's here'' he said is a panic sleepy voice, letting out a big yawn..  looking up, ''oh its you guys.'' yawning tiredly..


Timber '' you got oatmeal on your face again''


Stomper letting out a sleepy yawn  ''that is nice,'' lifting his hoof, wiping the oatmeal off his face, licking his hoof.''


''So are you coming to the family picnic this weekend'' Timber asked curiously.

Stomper "too tired, Rock Climber had us up all night crying'' yawns as he takes another lick of oatmeal, '' we tried giving him his milk, changing his diaper, and a bath, and he still kept crying.''


Timber ''How about you Forest,'' the ponies stopped eating, feeling aquard by the question.

 

Dew Drop, appears out of the path with her saddle bag on her back, entering the lumber sight, the cool breeze blowing the smell of fresh cut trees, she sees Forest  and walks towards him.


Dew Drop ''Hello Dear,'' reaching to her saddle bag open the flap dipping her hoof into the bag she pulls out a paper bag. ''You forgot your lunch.again ''


Forest,'' sorry about that,  I will try to remember next time.''


they both nuzzle each other, then Dew Drop heads back towards to the path and disappears into the woods..


Taking out his daisy sandwich, muffin, and a canteen of lemonade, a note falls to the ground ..Forest stoops down to pick it up with his hoofs, he read the note


 I have something to tell you..

i know I'm weak at spelling and my grammar is horrid... however I'm not going to let that stop me.

I have a wild imagination, my spouse  calls me crazy, says its a waste of Time.. His idea of fun is looking at rocks,  yawn 

at least story telling is way more fun..

now that the core is complete, now the fun part Writing all the chapters in detail

Plus doodling all the characters in the story..

Once I give them a heart and a soul I will make my next move, considering a hand full of characters .are owned by Hasbro., I will make my pitch to them first about the Story of Crystal Frost...

Don't listen to your spouse, writing about something you love is not a waste of time!  I think it's great that you're using your creativity and imagination to produce something brand new. 

As far as your writing and grammar being 'weak', practice makes perfect.    The more you write, the stronger your writing will become.  (Also if you grab any random novel, you can 'study' it and kind of imitate the formatting.)

Your pony-dragon character is adorable, BTW.

I don't want to crush your dreams of Hasbro licensing your story, but that is probably not going to happen; it's just not something they do.  HOWEVER . . . if you file off the aspects that make your story specifically "My Little Pony" (i.e. remove all references to Equestria, Hasbro's characters, Ponyville, cutie marks and other official terms) then there's a chance you could publish your story.  I'm fairly sure that's been done before for the children's market.

The nice thing about that would be that you could also use your creativity in imagining the world your ponies live in too, and wouldn't have to be like "Oh, I can't do this or that because the show contradicts it."

I can easily ditch the cutie marks and call them birth marks that the ponies are born with.. And ditch the characters names that Hasbro used, getting more creative and making up my own.  give them new countries too.. That is easy. To do, and it will open my option to get other big movie and TV and publisher makers on board,

I'm making up most of my characters on their own.   

However, what will really make this work is finishing the books and make my next move.

Once I'm done with the completed book I will join Oatley Acedemy  with their guidance and advice, direction and influence will, work to make the Story of Crystal Frost come to life..

No need to study novels. Because the spine is complete..

I think avoiding duplicate names is the most important thing.  And, yeah, not having it super obvious like "We ponies live in Horseville below the Canterdot Castle in Equestrialle", lol.  But if it's "These ponies live in the town of Meadowbrook on Mount Stormhoof, far from the capitol of Silkenmane which overlooks the great green grazing grounds" or whatever then I think that would be sufficiently different that Hasbro wouldn't / couldn't do anything.

I remember reading a series about unicorns who live on the other side of the rainbow (Unicorns of Balinor), and I would be really surprised if it wasn't inspired by MLP.  Rainbow colored talking unicorns who lived over a rainbow . . . They didn't have symbols / cutie marks, but IIRC they did have "mystical crystals" I think.

Anyway, getting back on topic, I looked up Oatley Academy and found some good reviews for it that said it had a great community / support.  So I think that's a great choice!

Isn't it great when you start getting that flood of ideas??  The festival of lights and Tree Top Hills sound great. 

I would say write first and worry about "Hasbro stuff" later.  You can always change stuff once you start editing.  Where a lot of people get stuck is they get stuck in "edit mode" and stop writing.  (I know I am guilty of this, ha ha.)  Editing is very important of course, but if someone doesn't finish writing the first draft (messy and error-riddled as it may be) then there's nothing to edit.

Definitely second the keep writing advice. Never ever give up on your dream. It's only by working at it that you get anywhere.

I think just keep what LBS said in mind, make sure you're a long way from the MLP concept when you take this further because it will protect you. Hasbro are a big impersonal corporation and you don't want to tick them off unduly because it won't end well. But you have the imagination to make something completely separate from MLP, and also the ability to illustrate it. So as you said, your options are limitless. I would be careful with the birthmark/bullying for lack of birthmark thing. That's very like CMC. BUT the idea of a villain stealing birthmarks and putting them in a scrapbook, that sounds different. Mind you, I'm not sure you need birthmarks. You have a dragon horse. That opens completely different options to MLP.

I think the secret to doing that is to focus on the species in your illustration.

What LM means about reading novels and such is just that actually, doing that can help your creative processes and any weaknesses you have in grammar. By reading, you kind of absorb the way sentences go together and then you will find it easier to fix those issues when you come up against them in your own writing.

I write a lot, when I'm not banging my head against my PhD and class preparation stuff, but I write both original stuff and fanfic. The fanfic I write is often posted out there for feedback and constructive critique. This isn't that kind of story, as you want it to be original rather than MLP fanfic to get it published or developed...so maybe that's not an option for you. But if you wanted to improve your writing, writing actual mlp fanfiction and posting it online may be a way for you to do that. It's also a good way to try out ideas (and maybe torture people with cliffhangers, which is what I do because I'm just mean).

What LM means about reading novels and such is just that actually, doing that can help your creative processes and any weaknesses you have in grammar. By reading, you kind of absorb the way sentences go together and then you will find it easier to fix those issues when you come up against them in your own writing.

Exactly . . . The more you read, the more you subconsciously know "this is how this sentence should look" without having to stop and think about it.  Although, even with a lot of reading, this is easier for some people than others . . . I absorbed grammar rules easily through reading, but my sister has dyslexia and struggled . . . Still, I do think it helps most people.

About the birthmarks, another possibility is them showing up on the ponies' chests or even on the underside of their hooves.  In which case the main character could try to hide her lack by hiding her hooves / wearing shoes until finally her 'terrible' secret was revealed.

Or, the ponies could have charms they wear instead of a mark on their body.  Like, "On their 18th birthday ponies venture deep into the forest to forge the talisman that will reveal their True Name" or something like that.  (And if you wanted an element of surprise to what the symbol would end up being, you could have the ponies drink a potion that sends them into a trance while they work, or even just have them cast the metal into a volcano(?) and then the volcano melts the metal into a symbol.  In the main character's case maybe the volcano doesn't return the metal at all?  But later it turns out there is an Important Reason for that.

Just some ideas, feel free to use, ignore, or change them.

It's cool to know there are other aspiring writers out there.    I write short stories (not about ponies) and have had some success in contests, but none in publications. 

My personal advice: write for yourself.  If you focus too much on what other people think, or of an end goal like publication, writing becomes tedious very quickly.  Write what you want to write.  Write what makes you happy.   

Neat start to your story though.  I like the cliffhanger ending!

I was on a creative journey last night and Wow I'm loving
The results.. Here is what I woke up to in my head  I broke the chains of Hasbro..
 and went on my own epic journey...

 seeing my daughter create Pokémon fusions , go me brain storming for a world of Pony Fusions..

The camel prince should be a camel pony prince a pony fused with a camel

And a new world sparked up The deer ponies  deer fused with ponies..they are guardians of the magical forest teaming with wildlife.. The Fox ponies that are crafty sly creatures who like to steal from the ponies and fusion ponies all across the lands..

The sea dolphin ponied, that help ponies lost at sea find their way back to land

The Turtle ponies the live in the ocean and walk on land..

the shark ponies who are jealous of how the earth ponies love the dolphin ponies, and fear the shark ponies of the sea...

How about the Gorilla Ponies that live in the jungle  And the Parrot Ponies that think they are better that the Gorilla Ponies, because their beautiful colors and that the birth mark is more colorful than their plain one...

And the Frog ponies that live in the swamp. And the spider ponies, , whom are feared because they look too creepy..

The polar ponied that live with the ice ponies, and the snow rabbit ponies... Who are smaller ponies in size yet they are just as important too..

like wow... The possibilities are endless...

We create fusion ponies with the creatures of the real world

that way it helps us connect with the reality that even though we are the main species on land, that has the most influence of the impact on the planet there are other creatures that exist that are equally as important as us..

I link this is a very unique way to connect  the viewers with life on the planet too..

All creatures in my world will be born with birth marks no matter they be a polar pony, turtle pony or a spider pony,, there will be a random few born with no birth marks ..

However the message is do not feel ashamed  because you have a birth mark and others do not. or less value just because you were not born with a birth mark like the rest... We are all different in our on unique way when we are born, and we should celebrate together birthmark or no birthmark.. being proud just the way we are.

I love it the more it think the creative I become... Good bye Chains of Hasbro... Hello Freedom...

I'm not going to be a sheep and follow the rest of the crowd , yet when I tried to put crystal Frost into Hasbro world.. That is exactly what I was doing...

Now that I realize this, I broke the chain decided to create a new world called the pony fusions..  yes there is still unicorns, Pegasus, earth ponies, dragons,  even Alicors . However i decided to walk the path that never had been done before. Fusing pones with the creatures I love around the world..

Yes I just wrote these ideas today, my world is going beyond Hasbro Idea..

It is a new world all its very own..

I went from an idea to a puddle to a water fall an ocean, and now one massive Explosion..

And I love it...
