This is a question for our members from the Netherlands / neighbouring countries: This year, my partner and I are hoping to finally make it over to NL for the huge fleamarkets on King's Day. Which city should we head for? There's Amsterdam, of course, but I've also heard good things about the fleamarkets in Rotterdam, Groningen, Den Haag etc. Which would you recommend? Other than ponies, we're also looking for books / DVDs / CDs (yes, I speak Dutch), household items, tools etc. We're very much after private sellers, rather than professionals or antique dealers.
Thanks in advance! Dank je wel!

Any big city will have something going on so also keep Den Bosch, Maastricht and maybe Tilburg and such in mind. Amsterdam is simply packed with partygoers. Groningen I'm not familiar with in terms of fleamarkets though.
My personal best hauls are from the smaller towns though, as the bigger cities have more serious sellers and often also a 'braderie'.
So maybe look at one big city and visit several smaller towns/ dorpen :)

I go to Zwolle, Overijssel. it's pretty big but I'm not always lucky there. i live there so it's easy for me to go there.

Thanks, both, that's really helpful!

I live in Amsterdam so that's my to go place at Kings Day :) But I can't cover all markets in the city, so I usually pick out the ones with the biggest chance to get ponies. Most of them are private sellers. Some areas in cities are for children only.

Thank you! Which areas would you recommend? We also prefer private sellers, for sure.

Any area that is NOT in the city center will do :) As said above a lot of people are coming to party. There are really a lot of markets, people are allowed to sell in front of their houses. I did that last year after finished thrifting. Maybe by that time check out the local map for the activities because it will be listed.
I have to mention the weather :) If it rains, those markets also will be there.
