mane and Tail
« on: May 16, 2013, 03:28:25 AM »
So then when you've got rid of washers what do you use to keep a new tail in? And where do I find these items.

And with rehairing the mane; once you've rehaired do you glue or don't you glue and what glue do you use?

Links to turtuorials with pics and info would be appreciated please.

I've been re-tailing using zip-ties, one in the middle of the tail where the clamp normally goes, and then once it's through the hole, a second one around the base of the tail to hold it in where the washer would normally go. I've seen it on a few tutorials, and it works for me!

Retailing: http://www.mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=262864.html This is very helpful I also us Zip Ties

As far as rehairing, I do tend to glue it in.. I've used Fabri-tac before but if you don't use it enough you waste it as over time the older it gets the less usable it is... I use low-temp hot glue for now.

I agree with zipties and glue wise I use Tacky glue... it's in a bronze and white bottle and found at any Michaels or Hobby Lobby etc.

I agree with the zip ties!  I just started using that method myself and love it!

I use zip ties (can find them at Walmart in the hardware section, or any hardware store for that matter...very cheap), and Fabritac for the glue.

I've ordered some zip ties online.
I've started my first rehair I would show you but its my ponycon custom so I cant show you till later in the year when PKW makes the big reveal.
It's easier than I thought but still quite tricky (especially when your tired and have a headache).
My main trouble is getting the right amount of hair in the plug, but separating hair for the plug is also annoying. It likes to go everywhere lol

I use the same method for tails. Works very well. :)

I do not use a re-hairing tool for manes though so I have no need to use glue. Everything is held in by the tiny knots for each hair plug.

I've been doing knots on my plugs, I wasn't sure whether or not to leave it as just the knots holding the hair in or glue as well?

I used eleastic bands- cut in half and tie in the middle of the hair then loop the elastic around the hair to make a stopper when putting the hair back in :)

I use beading wire on the tail
I know, I know, metal inside the pony - but customs should not be taking a bath anyway ;)
I've been tempted to try zip ties, but I've not had any issue the way I do it, so I haven't changed

I use tacky glue inside the head for the mane
