Off Topic / Anyone who's written a book- quick question...
« on: August 14, 2016, 01:41:53 PM »
Just wondering, once you've written your first proper draft, how long do you leave it before you reread it and properly edit it? Some online advice says a fortnight, some say a few months, others say longer!
How long do you feel is long enough for you to read it again with a more objective view?
Almost finished my first draft of a children's book, and the words are just flowing at the moment.
(Have had loads of stories in the planning stages for years, realised life is too short and I need to get them written or I'll never get around to it!).
Thanks!

Off Topic / Any ways to keep warm when your heating breaks down?
« on: November 24, 2015, 09:21:02 AM »
5 days without heating, still waiting on the letting agents of the house to tell me what on earth is going on, since their boiler repair insurance co has said it isnt covered! So to cheer me up, has anyone got any novel ideas for keeping warm when this happens? Had 2 sick days off work, but the cold's made my chest infection feel worse!
So far I've: Stayed in bed, had 2 hot water bottles on the go at once, layers of blankets, dressing gowns, etc. Cuddling soft toys, Thermal curtains, curtain linings, draught excluders at the base of doors, (sat in bed sewing another one yesterday!), bubble wrap up at the attic window, new doorway type curtain up the attic stairs, hot drinks, curries, cooker door left open after cooking, I've done most things apart from setting the curtains alight! Any other ideas?

The Dollhouse / Help please! Can you ID rather odd Barbie/Christie?
« on: March 30, 2015, 09:28:37 AM »
Found a nakey black Barbie/Christie (sorry, don't know her name) in a charity shop yesterday, have put various words in Google and haven't found a pic!
She's got 2 peculiar features, her usual long hair spins round (well, her scalp really!) to change to what looks like a long blue mullet, (well, at the front at least!) and her stomach is squishy! (which scared me greatly, nearly dropped her when in the shop!). Can't post a pic, but she's fairly dark skinned with the 1999 Mattel body, can't read what's on back of head as unclear!

Thanks anyone!

Am trying to get money together via Ebay, and am coming to the end of the supply from my vintage toy collections and things that I've been selling for years. I am always looking for other vintage toys to sell, or newer toys of quality, but was wondering if I was missing a trick.

The only idea I had was if nice baby clothes in lots according to gender and size might sell? Often they are cheap to pick up, but I've never sold any before?
I don't want to sell stuff I don't understand, like electronic stuff, or that I couldn't describe properly as I like to give good descriptions to avoid bad feedback!

Has anyone got any ideas of stuff I can find in charity shops and the like that sell well? Thanks!

Haven't bought anything from America for over 3 years as couldn't afford postage like I used to be able to, so rather out of touch now!
Just wondered if anyone has posted a fashion doll or similar sized/shaped object to the UK recently and if so, how much it was?  I know there might be customs fees and stuff on top, that's why I'd like some idea of basic postage!
Thanks!

Off Topic / Calling any Archaeologists! (Or similar!) Check in here!
« on: September 19, 2013, 09:45:52 AM »
Just noticed on another thread that there are quite a few with an Archaeology degree!
I work with disabled children now, got married at Uni so never managed to get an arch job cos I couldn't afford it and couldn't move away to where the work is!!! Would love to do an MA or something in future years though. My fave Archaeological interests are Iron Age/Romano British crossover, the Minoan civilisation, the Harappan civilisation, Lithics, and Historically I am interested in the Slave Trade, New Zealand, Japanese art of the Edo period,  and the 1930s!

So who is out there with an Archaeology background?
Working or ever worked in the field? (Or lab, or hut?)
Doing something else but still subscribing to magazines and watching the TV programmes?
What particularly interests you in the subject?

I'd love not to feel alone!

Off Topic / 1000th post and my life is changing for the better!
« on: May 24, 2013, 03:03:06 PM »
And I've had a great time reading endless threads on this club over the years I've been here! Lots of interesting people about in Pony land.
Have decided, after several life events in the past year including having to turn down the job I've wanted for the past 9 years, etc, that I'm downsizing my pony collection,  selling lots of earthly possessions, and freeing up a lot of room in my house, which is a rather radically life changing thing for me to do for someone who collects virtually everything.
I'll still be in this club, where else can I join in conversations about MLP, Dr Who, Axolotles, and major world events in one place? But from here onwards I'm being strict with myself and only growing certain collections. My Vintage Pound Puppies collection mainly!
Wonder what my house will look like in another 1000 posts?

Can't presently post pics but got 4 small things I'm so excited about. In a charity shop on the way home from work, rummanged in a basket and found a 1984 Cabbage Patch Kid stamper, I have collected CPK for years, but hadn't got one, so I was chuffed. (Ginger haired girl in purple holding a camera, for those who know about those sort of things!). Then nearly squeaked out loud in the very quiet shop, found a childhood grail. 2 1982 Poochie stampers! I wasn't a pink loving child, but secretly always wanted a Poochie stamper. Mine are the valentines card one and the 'Write Soon' one, both lovely condition with ink which got all over my fingers in the shop. Never seen anything Poochie in a charity shop before. Double grail!
Then to add to a favourite collection of mine, at the bottom of the pile of mainly chipped old toy cars, was a PVC mini Muppet Babies Miss Piggy! (Seated holding a frog rattle).
A large handful of 80s pastel goodness! Got to go and clean Piggy now. Yippee!

Anyone else have 80s stampers?

I have just realised, a few moments prior to confessing on this thread, at the age of 36, that the Baby Bonnet School of Dance is called that as it is shaped like a bonnet! Up til now I just wondered why it came with Baby Half Note and not  Baby Bonnet!  :what: :yikes: :drunk: :enraged:
I hasten to add I've never seen one in real life, and have only just noticed a photo of the rear view of one, but even so....
Has anyone got pics to post? I don't think I've seen one complete with all the accessories and funny coloured small creatures...

(Goes to hide and keep a low profile on the pony community for a few years)

For Trade / GazeboMouse Trades/sales- Few Ponies, 80s/90s Toys and books
« on: February 19, 2012, 02:13:02 AM »
Here is my wishlist http://mlparena.com/mlp/index.php/topic,287871.0.html

I'd like to trade (or sell)  the following preloved items, have put prices on as a guide, but open to offers. Obviously for sales postage is extra, and I get tracking for international parcels, unless postage would be astronomically high for the cost of original item, and proof of postage for uk, unless insurance is requested and paid for too. I don't live near a Post Office so may take a couple of days to get to get parcels weighed for postage costs. Anything that costs a large amount will need to be insured anyway! Blah blah blah. I CAN'T SELL TO ADDRESSES IN COUNTRIES WITH UNRELIABLE POSTAL SERVICES LIKE ITALY OR MEXICO OR NIGERIA, SORRY!
Trades: I prefer to trade similar sized parcels so postage is fair for both of us.
Anyway, I have described the items with any obvious faults to the best of my abilities, see pics. Most is pre-loved/played with, nothing is mint condition unless stated. Please ask any questions about anything as I might have left out info important to you!
I have some feedback here,  and have traded face to face at Ponycon 2009. I have traded many times over the years in the Cabbage Patch collecting world. I have 100% feedback on Ebay though too, jointly with my husband. PM me for any info needed.

The word needed to get into the albums is 'flibble'!
