Off Topic / How does your SO react to your collections?
« on: October 22, 2021, 07:01:37 PM »
Whether it be ponies, dolls, or otherwise... how does your significant other view your collection(s)?

What prompted this question was a thread on Reddit (arguably my first mistake) in which men were asked what they thought of girls who collected toys. The general consensus: creepy, unless the men were figure collectors themselves.

I've been single all my life, so SOs are out of the question... but most of my friends and extended family members found the collection odd, if not slightly endearing. Toy collecting isn't something I publicly advertise unless you walk into my room -  there's a couple custom ponies on my dresser, and a plush leopard keychain clipped to my purse. I'm of the opinion that it isn't a hobby that makes you immature, but a lack of responsibility, laziness, and respect does.

What are your experience(s)?

Pony Corral / Question about fade-prone hair colors!
« on: April 08, 2021, 01:30:19 PM »
Hi peeps! I'm still around, just not very active in the toy-collecting community these days.

Anyways, I'm taking the last of my ponies out of storage, and I'd like to know: what hair colors are prone to fading? I know light pink is one, but I wonder if there are others I should be concerned about.

Secondly, can these colors be faded by indirect sunlight? Most of my ponies are stored on an open bookshelf right behind my bedroom door. As such, they're usually in semi-darkness. Is it still safe to store fade-prone ponies there, or do they need to be banished to my closet?

Thanks for taking the time to read. Hope life is treating everyone well.  :good:

Pony Corral / When did MLP prices get so high?!
« on: December 23, 2020, 10:42:13 AM »
Hey pony peeps! I'm still around, just a little frazzled by all the holiday stress. ;) Hope everyone is doing well.

Now that I have more (regular) income, I'm tentatively starting to look into rebuilding my collection. Still got a handful of my childhood ponies left, but most of them have been long gone. While I understand that they went to great homes and am grateful for the income they brought,  I -really- regret downsizing the way I did.

The bulk of my collecting was done from 2007-2011, at a time when G3s were still abundant in secondhand shops (along with the occasional G1.) Nowadays I'm lucky if I can find a G4 while thrifting, let alone the older gens. I thought, "Well, you can find anything on the *internet these days! I can get some of my old ponies back!"

* Internet being eBay, MLPTP, the Arena, and Craigslist

...If I'm willing to shell out at least $10-$15 for a common G1. Even G3 prices are starting to creep up; and I haven't even looked at G2.

Am I just looking in the wrong places? Are these oddly high prices? Or has inflation hit the secondhand toy market and I wasn't paying attention? I don't ever remember first-release Seaponies being $30-$40 each, if not more. (Granted, I was also in my tweens / early teens at the time.) It seems like other collectors' markets, like Care Bears and video games, have skyrocketed too (although I suspect Covid has a lot to do with the latter.)

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. I was really looking forward to adding to my collection, but if it's going to cost me a few hundred dollars to do it... it may just be a pipe dream.

Pony Corral / My Little Wiki - Unofficial 2020 Update Thread
« on: July 09, 2020, 11:11:39 AM »
Hey folks! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer (or winter!)

It has come to my attention that My Little Wiki is in dire need of images, details, and general information relating to various MLP lines.
(And probably related toy lines as well, but I haven't looked into that yet.)
With the release of the new Basic Fun and Pony Life lines (not to mention things like the D&D ponies) there's a lot of ground to cover. This is where the community comes in!

Please understand that I'm not the owner of the Wiki - it belongs to absol, hence the 'unofficial' thread description. I'm just an editor who would actually like to put my dusty wiki account to some use. :P I have no power to authorize new accounts or change certain pages, but can help with uploading images, fixing errors, and add general information to the site.

Other editors are encouraged to join in - this isn't my exclusive project, after all! It's very much a team effort. I just started this thread so that we could get some brainstorming done.

So where do I start?:

Um... I'll be honest, I have no idea.

(That's not very helpful, I know. :yikes: )

For starters, if you run across a page that needs an image, missing detail, or whatever - and you can contribute it, let me know! Here is a Wanted page requesting some images: http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Wanted

When submitting photos, please try to keep the following in mind:

- Only photos that you took should be submitted! Don't steal others' photos.

- Images should be clean and clear.

- A solid color background - preferably white or black - is ideal.

- I can add a subtle watermark (yourname@MLPArena or other specified site) if requested.

I will edit the Wanted Page (and the opening post of this thread) as we get the ball rolling and figure out exactly what we need. Thank you for taking the time to read and possibly contribute. <3

Pony Corral / Tips on taming crazy pony hair?
« on: February 06, 2020, 12:37:55 PM »
My collection is finally coming out of storage!

*tosses confetti*

EDIT: Decided to put my rambling under a spoiler.
Spoiler
To put a long story short, most of my ponies spent the past seven years or so in a plastic Sterilite bin under my bed. My family and I moved to a much smaller house and I no longer have the options for display that I did before. (Arguably I still don't, but I've gotten rid of enough stuff that they can sit on the shelves in my cabinet and no longer have to be crammed in a box.) My room is about 144 sq. feet, so it took some serious Kon'mari'ing to bring things to a manageable level.

Honestly, it was a little embarrassing. I'm very proud of the results, though!

Only problem is, most of the ponies have mussed hair / slightly bent legs as a result of being stored for so long. I've boiled hair in the past (trying to tame frizz and whatnot) but the results have been... disappointing. Don't know why. Frizzy hair hardly evens out, tinsel continues to go everywhere and curls won't stay in at all. :drunk: I tried several different guides with no luck.

Kind of at a loss here; obviously I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. Maybe I'm not leaving the hair in long enough? Any help would be greatly appreciated; I'm tired of having scruffy ponies lol.

The Dollhouse / Help - sticky / damaged collections!
« on: August 25, 2019, 10:37:31 AM »
Hopefully I'm just over-reacting, but... right now I feel like I should just throw in the collecting towel, so to speak.

TL;DR - I improperly stored some important collectibles and found out some are badly damaged.

All of my belongings are kept in a 9 ft x 12 ft room in our old farmhouse. It's drafty and, due to being over the basement, occasionally damp at times. But overall it isn't too bad. I've done what I can to keep everything free of dust, UV light and moisture. 'Fancy' collectibles, such as the American Girl dolls, my mother's childhood doll collection, and a handful of custom ponies are kept in an enclosed cabinet above my closet.

I decided to do a deep-clean today in a (vain) attempt to rid my room of daddy long-legs. For the record, I clean my room twice a week, but it is a guarantee that there is always one or two in a corner somewhere. It's what happens when you live in a farmhouse, I guess. Better to have them than 'regular' spiders.

Due to various reasons I'm not going to disclose, I've been too stressed out with life to pay any attention to my collections. I thought 'Oh, they aren't out in the open, they'll be fine'... so I shut them up in that cabinet and didn't bother checking for months. Opened it up today and was horrified to discover that they weren't fine.

The customs are all sticky. At first I thought it was because they were painted, but... I have a painted ceramic cat doll up there and she isn't sticky at all.
Something similar is happening with the dolls. Mom has about 50 or 60 dolls from her childhood, ranging from 1960s' Barbies to beautifully made foreign dolls. The Barbies' legs are all sticky, and the same thing is happening to an 18" Gotz doll - plasticizer leakage, maybe? The Gotz doll isn't stored anywhere near the Barbies; they're on separate shelves. Interestingly enough, I keep a G1 Caramel Crunch up there right next to the offending customs, and she's also fine.

But the worst surprise was seeing the Vietnamese (?) dolls' faces cracked and flaking apart. Not sure what they're made of. These dolls were from her uncle, so they hold some significance beyond being collectors' items. :(

I have no idea what happened. While indoor temperatures tend to fluctuate, we mostly stay around 60-75 degrees throughout the year - nothing was exposed to extreme temperatures. Humidity isn't too bad either - I live in Idaho, even our winters tend to be on the dry side.

Is there anything I can do to save these? I don't even know where to start; I've taken rubbing alcohol to the Barbie's legs with no significant success.

Off Topic / What are your current goals / resolutions?
« on: July 15, 2019, 01:16:58 PM »
This subject is typically reserved for New Years', but I just returned from a short vacation that gave me time to relax and do some (much-needed) self-reflecting.  :relaxed:
2019 was supposed to be my year for self-improvement, and although things haven't gone as planned (an understatement) I'm not going to throw in the towel. Good vibes, lol.

So Arena, what are you currently aiming for in 2019?

(I'm mostly referring to non-pony things here, but feel free to throw in a few of those too.)

I'm going to (or at the very least, try to):

• Get a steady job
• Get a vehicle
• Take better care of myself, physically, emotionally, and mentally
• Quit procrastinating / being so easily discouraged / stressing myself to the point I can't get anything done
• Manage my time more effectively
• Read more often
• Learn a new hobby, preferably a textile art
• Make at least three custom ponies
• Participate in a craft fair
• Start making art regularly
• Start participating in threads again!
(I tend to be a lurker, mostly because I don't feel that I'm contributing to conversations...)
• Ride my horse at least four days a week
• Exercise my dogs more often

Your turn, guys. :lovey:

(The title makes it sound worse than it really is. )

I have a Lady Lovely Locks Curly Crown doll that is suffering from the dreaded sticky leg syndrome. Given that the rest of her is in excellent shape and I'd feel bad about tossing her, I've decided to remove her legs and customize her into a centaur!

I'm seeking either a G1 body or a similarly-sized model horse body - something that won't look too big in comparison with the doll. Bite marks, etc. don't matter, as long as the limbs are intact.

Please post or PM if you have anything that may fit my criteria. Thank you!

Spring cleaning has left me with quite a herd to sell!

I'm slowly listing them here through the Arena classifieds. All BIN listings, no auctions.

There is nothing particularly rare or uncommon - just some ponies looking for new homes.
I've done my best to provide in-depth details and highlight any flaws, but I encourage you to look carefully at the pictures before purchasing. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like more pictures, please feel free to send me a PM! I'm online at least once daily.

Holds:
I will accept holds for up to one (1) week - please let me know if you change your mind about a pony. I won't be angry; I just need to know so I can relist it.

Shipping & Payment:
- Please ask me for a quote before purchasing - there have been some differences between the online calculator and my local P.O., so I take it into the office to get an accurate cost.
- Shipping is limited to the continental U.S.A. & Canada.
- I will combine shipping on multiple purchases (if possible).
 - Accepted payment methods are PayPal or well-concealed cash (at your own risk.)

All sales can be found here:

Trader & Shipping Support / How is selling on eBay these days?
« on: April 13, 2019, 04:49:44 PM »
Hi folks!

I've been doing some spring cleaning / decluttering, and was wondering how safe the current eBay scene was these days. Last time my mom and I sold there - which was over a year ago - most of our listings ended with NPBs. It was pretty discouraging.

Most of what I'm selling is hobby / toy stuff - Pokemon merchandise, G1s / G3s, and a handful of video games - nothing of 'real' value, really. (I will probably try to sell the ponies here in the Classifieds.)

Has there been any rash of NPBs / chargebacks / stuff I should be aware of?

Pony Corral / Does anyone know what media the G1 artwork was drawn in?
« on: March 02, 2019, 05:07:09 AM »
The old G1 illustrations have this beautifully soft touch to them, and I can't for the life of me identify what they were drawn in. Other things from the 80's - Sailor Moon, for example - have a similar aesthetic.

Have any of the official artists ever mentioned what media they used? The only thing that even slightly comes to mind is wet-on-wet watercolor... or possibly airbrushing.

The Dollhouse / Fair condition LLL Curly Crown w / dress - Make an offer!
« on: September 06, 2018, 01:23:54 PM »
Thank you for stopping by! :enthralled:

I'm not sure what LLL dolls are worth to begin with, and this girl is particularly hard to price.
She has an odd condition I've never seen before - both her arms and legs are covered with spots, and slightly sticky to the touch.
Normally I'd bait something like this, but... the rest of her is in great shape.
There is a small patch of something shiny near the right corner of her mouth - sealer?
One of the ribbons on her dress is damaged, and the others are slightly frayed.
Hair is clean and silky.

Make an offer! The worst I can do is politely decline. She can probably be shipped in a well-padded bubble envelope.

• You must have an least one positive feedback on the MLPTP or Arena.
• Continental U.S. shipping only.
• I will accept payment either via PayPal or well-concealed cash (the latter is at your own risk!)
• Comes from a non-smoking home with a housecat.

If you have any questions or concerns, please send me a message. Thanks!

Hello folks! :good:

Long time no see - I've been popping in occasionally but for the most part I've been inactive in the MLP scene. (I've missed my pastel ponies.)

These will all be traditional, either ballpoint pen or pencil.

• All art must abide by MLPArena rules.

As the title states, I'm seeking to purchase a 1999 Charmander card album.

It doesn't need to be in mint condition; light wear is perfectly fine. No rips or tears, please.

I'd prefer to purchase from someone here in the U.S. If you have any other Pokemon merchandise - i.e. cards - I may be interested in purchasing other items as well.

Please contact me with images and pricing. Thanks!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / How do you price pre-owned Pokemon cards?
« on: April 30, 2018, 10:02:24 AM »
My brothers and I are thinning our childhood Pokemon collection, and... hoo boy. There's a lot more cards than I thought. So far, I've sorted four decks and I'm not quite halfway done. @__@

Lot prices on eBay are hit-and-miss. Do people even purchase old decks anymore? Or am I better off taking the cards I want and selling the rest as incomplete decks? Nothing is (as far as I know) particularly rare; they're mostly Diamond / Pearl / Platinum era. There's a handful of first-edition cards, too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Should probably mention that they're in good, used condition with a few rougher ones thrown in. Nothing torn.
