Personally, for my own collection, I wouldn't be interested in exact replica ponies of existing variants. I understand why people do it and it's a personal choice. I just prefer genuine stuff. It takes the point of the hunt and the quest out of it for me if you can just order it to specifications.

Alternative pose or generation versions of Nirvana I have no issue with. That's a creative art form and no different from making an alt pose version of any pony (eg a Baby Fifi with a horn, like her mama).

The only caveat I have with exact replicas, especially noting the talent in the community, is that all custom versions should be marked on the hoof as such. I remember the crazy over the fake Reverse Gusties years back and there are far more legitimated custom Nirvanas in the community. So I feel strongly that, even if they are ones you intend to keep, they should be so marked. That way, if something unthinkable happened, they can't be confused for the real deal later on down the line.

Otherwise, it's each to their own for me. It's just not my thing.

The Reverse Gusty I made is marked like all my customs for that reason Taffeta.    I would think alt customs should be marked too because they could be mistaken for new variants.

The hunt is part of it! You are right to mention the tracking down and saving up are part of owning a rare or special pony.
