I've not been to a lot of toy stores in recent years, but when I go, it's always the same picture, whether it's in Belgium, Germany or the UK: Large stores will have some MLP stuff, though you always have to search for it and it's often a wild mixture of older and newer items (which can be quite nice, depending on what you're looking for, but it shows that the stores don't care what they put on the shelves). Small stores with limited shelf space tend not to have MLP at all anymore. It's just not a big seller, I suppose.

Books! I love looking for books in second-hand bookstores and at fleamarkets. I particularly like horse stories for children and young adults, as well as YA fiction in general. Given that I speak four languages to the level where I can read books in them (English, German, Dutch and French), that makes for a nice collection.

It's always lovely to discover that books that I enjoyed reading in one language have been translated into another one that I speak. To give just two examples, the "Saddle Club" books and its spin-off series, which I'm sure many of you will be familiar with, have very successfully been translated into French (which is particularly nice because the English books are somewhat difficult to find over here, and only a fraction were translated into German), and the "Bille und Zottel" books, a very successful German series, have been translated into Dutch (as well as into French, but I haven't managed to get one of them yet). I love comparing translations, see how the translator dealt with national specialities and so on. It's so interesting.

This is a question for our members from the Netherlands / neighbouring countries: This year, my partner and I are hoping to finally make it over to NL for the huge fleamarkets on King's Day. Which city should we head for? There's Amsterdam, of course, but I've also heard good things about the fleamarkets in Rotterdam, Groningen, Den Haag etc. Which would you recommend? Other than ponies, we're also looking for books / DVDs / CDs (yes, I speak Dutch), household items, tools etc. We're very much after private sellers, rather than professionals or antique dealers.
