Downsizing the Pony Room-Suggestions?
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:41:47 AM »
Hi all, we're moving to a new house and I have about half the space for my pony room.  I already have risers for my shelves.  Does anyone have any space-saving suggestions?

Put long and narrow shelfs on the walls? Sorry I know that is not much help.

Hmm, maybe if we could see a pic of your collection now we could give some suggestions for saving space better. Good you already do risers.

Yes, please show us pics - maybe we can help!  Maybe there is a rotating cake stand or jewelry display you could find to display in small spaces.

I think it will largely depend on the layout of the room unfortunately but honestly the best option is the one you have mentioned - risers can offer up a significant additional volume of space.

Hang your pegasus ponies from the ceiling with ribbon so it looks like they're flying?  :P That'd be awesome, but maybe the string or whatever would leave marks on the pony.
How big is the room? If you don't have one already, you could put a table in the middle for displays or dioramas.
I'll put something here some time

An island in the middle of the space can have shelves on the sides and provide space for larger playsets(and more ponies) on top.

Get shelves from the Container Store that are long and can hold 4-5 ponies on them. You can mount them to the store very easily!

Shelves all the way up to the ceiling. Stack book cases if you have to. If you collect playsets, use them to display ponies or put them in storage. Don't display duplicates if you don't have to. (unless you have armies) Have all ponies facing forward. This is a space saver rather than standing to show their cutie marks. If you collect G3's this might be difficult because a lot of them don't turn their heads and they are facing anywhere but directly to the front. Put a shelf above windows for extra display space. Even above door ways. Closets can be used for displaying also, if you add shelves. You can always remove the closet door and put it in the garage/basement. Larger ponies in the back, smaller ponies in the front.

Over the door shoe wracks/storage wracks are also another great idea.

Some examples: (pics belong to their google owners!)

You could also spare collection shelves here and there for some of your favorites. They don't all have to be in the pony room. You could have a small shelf in your bedroom. Or in the living room.
