Pony Corral / Re: Will the franchise ever be how it was, again?
« on: July 30, 2020, 01:29:44 PM »
I dunno, I was there at the Hasbro My Little Pony Fair where they unveiled the "Core 7" and went on and on about their "focus group" wanting it (which, I kinda question their selection criteria).   I am sure that's why we went into so many iterations of the Mane 6 to begin with, and then it got doubled down on when a bunch of dudes screamed about show accuracy and people were shelling out hundreds for custom plushes that Hasbro wasn't getting a part of the action on.

Pony Corral / Re: How many G1 baby ponies are in your collection??
« on: July 30, 2020, 01:22:16 PM »
I am pretty conservative when it comes to G1 babies and my collection.

I have the rainbow babies, the first set of US Play and Care (because that is what I had as a kid), baby Lemondrop (regular with the dark symbols and NC), Baby Gusty (because she's awesome + a custom I made waiting to get one with sparkly symbols), baby Buttons the blue Ember, NBBE Cuddles and Tiddly Winks (because I had them as a kid and my original goal was to just replace my childhood collection), both Argie baby Butterscotches, a custom baby Powder that I made, Lucky Leaf (again because of awesomeness), a Peruvian baby Ribbon or Bow Tie or whatever she is supposed to be because I will clearly find whatever is released in that baby unicorn pose amazing. I only have 2 of the BBE ponies, because they came with something else. The Rice Krispies Christmas Pony. Fancy pants Argie baby "Gusty" .

21 or so?  Which doesn't seem like a lot considering I've been collecting as an "adult" since 1995.

There are a few more I'd like to have, Baby Stripes, Baby Ribbon (or any of those baby unicorns, all of them, let's go! Get in my collection!), Baby Meadowsweet (no idea why she's the only one of the set I want, but I would love to find a hairless one to restore).  Some Nirvanas I'll probably never get a hold of.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Have you ever found a Nirvana pony in the wild?

People have found them for me.  A roommate found a piggy Snuzzle for me back in the day for 50 cents in Miami, and recently a friend found me a NC Mommy Apple Delight in Seattle.

Yes, I think the venn diagram of hair play, cute pastel things, and horses are things that will always be appealing to a subset of children.  It was a stroke of marketing genius to be honest.

I stopped wanting them as a kid when the gimmicks really got ramped up. When the "My Little Pony Mommy" commercials started was when I noped out or wanting new ones as a kid, I had Firefly and her baby, Glory and her baby, Blossom and her baby and Cotton Candy and her baby...I did not wanna be a My Little Pony Grandma by the age of 8.  So I got one So Soft, and that was about it, and poor Buttons was always "the bad guy".  Did not like the cartoons, my ponies battled dragons and lived at Snake Mountain when they weren't playing the "carousel game".  So I really only got a solid 2-3 years of collecting as a child and they are still The Most Nostalgic Thing™ for me.

I may have wanted updated versions like when TAF Milky Way came out and I really wanted her to be an extra-fancy Twilight, but honestly how many of the same figure did you need? After all, I only had one Strawberry Shortcake, and didn't want the Party Pleaser because the original was enough. It definitely would have been weird to have more than one Megan. And I didn't like her that much anyway.  Probably jealousy.

Ack, I have lost all sense of time and didn't realize it was the 28th already!  I might still add photos, but might drop out of the contest.  I am having trouble at the moment in terms of...understanding the passage of time.

Right this second for some reason I can not get enough of Mirror Mirror. Something about her colors remind me of the tulips out front and this time of year she moves into a top spot in my heart.

LIIIICKETY SPLIT!!! (not shown: orange helados with magenta hair, i was waiting for her when i took the picture)

It brings me joy that Lickety Split is someone's favorite pony.  And Cherries Jubliee.  They're both so underrated!

I had her, deflocked her myself, the looked amazing, and then a friend's daughter who is very gentle with her toys all but begged me for her because she loved her so much.  I can get a Twist and deflock her again some day, maybe not at the price I paid for the first one, but you can't get back being an 7 year old and having ponies be your absolute world.  She still has her years later, still in the condition she was received, I may have created a collector.

MLP Nirvana / Re: Why is your favourite Nirvana, your favourite?

Sternenglanz, or German Starshine, has always been my favorite. Celestial ponies and rainbow ponies are my two favorite types of ponies, and she has both! Not to mention her pose is one of my favorites. Her colors are so soft, and her metallic symbol adds a nice detail.
she's a must have one day for me, probably above the rest of that already fantastic line. She's a nearly perfect pegasus. And it's funny because the standard US release of Starshine is one of my least favorite of the first few years of ponies for some reason.

when this stuff happens... so I totally didn't really look too close at my funky brazil bowtie and come to find out it seems this one is an oddball CP head used

I just love all the international quirks like this :-)

oh and like funky italian stamp eyes... just little details that capture that bit of  Hasbro production history

I'm definitely into that.  I actually like the face when you are looking straight on at the CP ponies more than the Bubbles pose.

I have an Italian Butterscotch, stamped eyes.  She is not the most glamorous or expensive Nirvana out there, but her coloring, white hair and how vibrant her eyes stand out makes her my favorite. Favorite version of a favorite pony.

I never thought I would want a Rockin' Beat pony, at all, let alone Sweet Notes, who from every photo I thought was hideous. The most hideous of the bunch.

I got her in a lot one day, not even that long ago only last August, fulling intending to give her to a kid I know.  I somehow fell in love with her and now I am looking for a handful of 60s Mattel Kozmic Kiddles to be her minions, and she is one of the few ponies that stays on display at all times.  No idea what happened.  And now I want Sunbeam the Sundazzle SHS to be her totally tubular teenage daughter.  Another thing I never thought I would say in my life.

I also like the ballerinas, both baby and adult.  I think they have very sweet faces.
