Title: safe to sunfade g4?
Post by: cowboyopossum on June 02, 2023, 01:04:02 PM
i recently got this cute mark magic sunset shimmer, but she is covered in pen marks! i have already used acetone, dawn dish soap, and magic eraser, but still can't get it all off. i'm afraid to sunfade her because i don't know how g4 plastic would react to uv exposure, and i can't find much about it. would she turn a different color, or work the same way a g1 would? has anyone tried this before?

I sun faded some pen marks on a brushable Lyra, so sun fading will work on a G4. I would cover the hair and paintwork just in case the sun fades them.

im currently sunfading a big FS fluttershy and her yellow hasn't faded yet, though its taking forever here being winter,
maybe just keep and eye on her, keep checking on it for any discolouration on her body colour.

Not at all, her body colour stayed the same where it was exposed to the sun.

I started my sun fading projects about two weeks ago as the weather is looking up here :)

Remember to take before pictures as well (I forget to) so you can see how the ink fades.

here she goes! hoping for the best, since there’s not much info about g4 sunfading.

update!!
she has definitely gotten better!! happy to report no sunburning or discoloration! the sun was super intense these past few weeks, so the masking tape melted a little bit, leaving a sticky residue. nothing a little wash can't fix! preparing to put her out again tomorrow!

She's looking great soaking up that Carolina sun! If you ever get some pen-covered ponies again, especially during the winter, a great investment I made was making a UV box! You really only need a UV light (which is the priciest part) a box and tinfoil. It's sped up the sunfading process a lot so I'm able to restore a lot more ponies now.  :)
