Pony Brag Arena / The Thrift Store Mimic!
« on: October 04, 2021, 08:28:13 AM »
It's been ages since I've been on the Arena. Hi everyone!

For various reasons, I had sort of drifted away from Pony collecting for a bit--I think a big part of it was my focus shifting to doll collecting, and life in general. However, I do visit my local thrift store semi-regularly, and I always check for ponies...you know, just in case.

Back in March, I found Mimic--yes, Mimic--of all ponies, in a bag, on the floor, for $3.99. I actually gasped and snapped up the bag. I had always liked her (I love unicorns, neon colors, and parrots), but accepted that I would probably never have her in my collection, as I rarely buy ponies online and try to just find them locally. And as you all probably know, Mimic tends to go for a price out of the budget of most. However, here was one of the rarest ponies out there, in my local haunt, in a bag, on the floor, unnoticed.

Recently I've been going through my collection in storage and rediscovering my love of ponies, which is why I am finally sharing this story. I guess the moral is that even when you think you won't or can't achieve your dreams, opportunity may appear as a bag on the floor behind a pile of junk....and now, she rules from her throne on my bookshelf. Whenever I think I just can't seem to catch a break with work or my health, there she is, reminding me fortune still smiles on me sometimes.

I hope you all find your dream ponies too! And I hope you're all doing ok despite everything. I apologize if this story is too mushy, I just wanted to spread some positivity. :)

The Dollhouse / Weird tan lines on odette?
« on: March 24, 2017, 05:10:12 PM »
Hey folks!

So I found a 1994 Tyco swan princess odette doll at savers, and she came in her original dress, which is really neat! While undressing her, I noticed she er....has some discoloration issues going on.

As you may notice, her neckline is.....orange? it's considerably darker than her face and the rest of her body, which makes it look like she has a strange tan line :P In addition, her arms and legs look pretty pale in comparison to the rest of her body. I presume that's from a difference in plastic materials (they're rubbery while the torso is hard plastic) and dye leeching over the years or something.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? If I display her in her dress, it's not really noticeable, but I'd like to try to restore her if I can.

edit: Here's some pictures with flash so you can see the arms better.

Pony Corral / Two quick questions about fixing pony hair!
« on: February 27, 2017, 07:43:19 PM »
Hey folks!

So I've been finding some slightly beat-up G1s at thrift stores and through craigslist to restore, so naturally I need to fix some issues with hair and tails :P

My twilight is missing her tail. I've been meaning to order a replacement from dollyhair, but I've never ordered from there before so I'm not sure what color would be a good match.

The site suggests virgin snow for most ponies with white hair, but hers has a warm touch to it that looks slightly yellowish. I was thinking maybe marshmallow or white witch...? What do you guys think?

Also, I found two flutter ponies at the thrift store the other day--morning glory and forget-me-not. I think they were owned by the same person and stored together because forget-me-not's hair is stained with what looks suspiciously like the highlighter-yellow color of morning glory's hair. :P

In her case, I was wondering if those spots could somehow be bleached without destroying the hair, or if I need to rehair her altogether. Any pony hair experts out there?

Thanks for looking!

Pony Corral / Safe to wash Loop-de-la?
« on: January 29, 2017, 05:16:09 PM »
Yesterday, I got a G3 Loop-de-la in a lot from a local seller! Aside from her tutu needing new elastic, she's in decent shape!
Unfortunately, she didn't come with her stand/base/spinny doo-dad, so I'm not sure if she still lights up. If she does, I don't want to short out any wires or "guts" that are in her in case I decide to sell her someday.

I'd love to get her a new base, but I haven't had any luck finding one with the spinning, light-up part still attached (in other words, the useful part is missing). Does anyone have any experience working with her? Is there a way I can hook up a potato clock to the metal part on her foot to test her light-up action? :P

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Non-mlp model horses!
« on: January 15, 2017, 05:52:27 PM »
Hey there everyone  ^.^ I felt like sharing a little story and picture of one of my earliest equine companions, a 1995ish Grand Champions thoroughbred mare (though I christened her "george" when I was 4 and she's been male ever since )

My sister and I used to play with our toy horses together as children, and we usually had our dolls ride on our my little ponies, grand champions, or other fakies/doll horses. I actually remember being most fond of George--or as I called him, "Dorge".  I still keep him in my bedroom, usually hanging out on my shelf below my ponies or next to my other figurines and dolls.

As you can see, his hair is wild and poofy despite my attempts at taming it. He's also got some paint wear and loads of scuffs and mysterious stains. One of them is some sort of clay, since I used to like making clay pies to "feed" my toys :P You can even see my faded name that my mom wrote on his belly 20 years ago.

I think what's most funny about his paint wear on his nose, eyes, and feet is that those areas are so worn down because I used to chew on them as a kid. I'm amazed there's no teeth marks. That's how you know a little kid really loves their toys---they try to eat them

Anyway, does anyone else have any non-mlp toy horses that hung out with their herds, such as breyers and the like? I'm curious to hear!

Pony Corral / Real or Fakie? Anyone know?
« on: January 11, 2017, 06:32:07 PM »
Hi everyone! It's been a while.  :P

So this pony has been in my collection a while, but I've never really looked into whether she's fake or real. I want to say fake, since her body is somewhat hard (not squishy like real G1s) and her hair doesn't feel like nylon. However...

she's got this little stamp on her foot that says "hasbro 2007". Did the maker go out of their way to try to make this fakie look real, or did hasbro release some retro-looking ponies in '07? I wasn't a collector back then, so I wouldn't know.

Fake or real, her eyes are painted very nicely!

Hey there! This month I spent quite a bit of my spare cash on pony things and I wanted to share them with you  ^.^

Spoiler

First up is a kohl's exclusive train car set that I got for 10 bucks after I applied a coupon my mom wasn't using. Score!

Then, an unboxed Princess Cadence and Applejack I bought from someone on facebook. They're in good shape, but I had to remove them from the box and throw it away because....DUN DUN DUN! They REEK like cigarette smoke! I was not happy about that, since I have asthma and smoke in particular is the worst thing for mine.   oh well. I got them and all the accessories for only 10 bucks, though--including shipping.

And last but not least, today's score! I decided to check out a Savers thrift outlet, where I found an RC G4 car (with no remote) and a mini herd of g3s! I was super happy to find a minty, but she came with some rather grungy small dolls that I'm probably going to donate. The rest were all bagged together. They were all very inexpensive and I've never had luck finding actual ponies at a thrift store, so i'm super excited and happy! :frolic:

Here's a before shot so you can see just how grungy they all were :P I still need to get some stains off, but that's a project for another day.

« on: April 03, 2016, 04:15:07 PM »
Hey everyone! this is my first post on this forum :)

I found this little puppy surprise girl at a thrift store today for 20 cents. She's one of the ones that squirt water.

Wanted! / Looking for Baity G4 white princess celestia!
« on: April 02, 2016, 10:54:58 PM »
Hi there! My sister saw me working on some of my customs and became very interested in making one of her own. However, she only wants to work with a tall/princess celestia/nightmare moon body type. The character she wants to make is white, so I figured a white celestia would be the best base for her :P

Since she's never tried anything like this before, she and I both think it would be best that she uses bait rather than a new pony. it's perfectly fine if it's a bit scuffed up or dirty. Anyone have anything like that?

Please let me know if this doesn't fit the rules for this forum. Thanks for reading!

Pony Corral / a few fakie finds at Deal$...big ol' G3 and others :)
« on: March 14, 2016, 07:36:45 PM »
I meant to share this a little over a week ago or so, but I kept putting it off. :P

While shopping at a discount store called Deal$ with my mom looking for easter decorations, I saw some interesting fakies in the toy aisle, along with a fashion style size pinkie pie (Which I didnt take a picture of for some reason).

I was drawn to this yellow pegasus for some reason. she reminded me of  fluttershy. the smaller fakies are kind of cute, too.

I don't really collect fakies, but I seriously considered getting this set just for that HUGE G3 and the baby pony that reminds me of my g1 childhood ponies. the purple one in the middle is sort of the black sheep of the family, but I like her :P

and lastly, this....interestingly proportioned fakie. I like her tiara, though!

That's all for now! :) I hope you all get a kick out of them like I did.

Pony Brag Arena / A neat Goodwill find!
« on: March 12, 2016, 04:05:06 PM »
While running errands today with my family, I suggested stopping at a Goodwill since my sister was looking for inexpensive silverware and we find some nice stuff there occassionally (although, if im being honest with myself, my ulterior motive was pony hunting :P).

As I was digging around in the toy section, this little bag caught my eye.

If I see anything that looks even vaguely pony-sized, I give it a once-over. Turns out this one is actually a my little pony g4 train set! It had no price tag on it, though. I asked an employee to price it for me and came back with a sticker saying 1.99 USD! Even though there's some track pieces missing, it's one heck of a deal.

The train still works, too! Hooray! I posed some of my newest additions on it :)

Pony Corral / Recent Fakie Finds
« on: February 28, 2016, 04:18:11 PM »
I don't collect fakies, but I saw these G3 and G3.5 fakies in a mall toy store not too far from my grandmother's house.

They had a lot of fake versions of toys that you'd normally see in discount stores, but I thought I'd share because I've never seen a g3.5 fakie before...and they were pretty big, too!

There's something amusing to me about that one small pony stuck to the wall while the others get to stand. Someone let her down!

Hello everyone!

 :drunk:

Over the past week, I've been on a pony-buying binge and picked Equestria girls Doll and Pony sets at TJ Maxx for ~relatively~ cheap (about 10 USD each).

Unfortunately, I don't collect equestria girls dolls. I just wanted the ponies that came with them. I don't really need the dolls lying around when someone else can enjoy them. I've never, ever done selling on eBay before, so I have no idea how much to charge. I'm also wondering whether I should sell these two as a lot or sell them separately. Thoughts?

I'm willing to sell everything pictured here.

Also, bit of a side tangent: I'm no musician, but is it me, or does that cello look a little small?

Pony Corral / Show me your "quirky" ponies!
« on: November 12, 2015, 01:49:39 PM »
Today I received a G4 CMM Sweetie Drops in the mail, and I was super excited because she's impossible to find in stores in the US (at least where I live)! As an added bonus, she wasn't loose and came with her little charm necklace.

But then I noticed her eye decals were a slightly misaligned--a little quirk I like to call "eye wonk". Luckily, she's in good company: the very first G4 earth pony I ever got, Cheerliee, also has a bit of a misplaced eye. Here's a picture of them next to a cheapo rainbow dash for comparison.

At first, these kinds of factory hiccups annoyed me, but I think it adds a bit of character and they've become endearing traits. :)

Do any of you have ponies with little quirks that you have a soft spot for? Chewed-off legs, chopped off hair, gel pen victims, fellow eye-wonkees, etcetera? I'd love to see them! Quirky ponies need love too!

Pony Corral / Prototype or Really Good Fakie? G4 CMM Trixie
« on: November 11, 2015, 06:29:14 AM »
Hello everyone! It's been a while. :)

So a few months back, I picked up a Trixie Lulamoon from Ebay. I'm not fond of Trixie in the show, but I love her color scheme and wanted her to break up all the pink in my pony shelf :P

Just about a half hour ago, I went on ebay with the search term "my little pony knockoff" to see what kinds of fakies were out there, and sure enough, my trixie was in the results! Knowing how search engines work, though, I was curious if it just picked up "my little pony" and not the "knockoff" part, so I did some googling to see Trixie's releases.

The only thing I found that resembled mine was a Cutie Mark Magic Trixie with 3 breezies that I haven't seen in the States (I only ever see Fluttershy or Twilight), and I don't even know if it's been released yet! (pic of that below).

As you can probably see, this Trixie has one of those heart-shaped stamps (QR codes?) on her front left foot. Mine doesn't. But she has a serial number and hasbro stamps and such on the bottom of her hooves. (here's some pics of her under the cut)

I consider myself a pony newbie, so I'm not really an expert on spotting good fakies or "prototypes" or weird variants. I'm not even sure if this pony has any! Do any of you know if she's fake or real? Please let me know!

I still like her either way, but I'd just like to know if I ever want to sell her :P Thanks for reading!
