Pony Corral / Re: Who were your first Ponies?
« on: March 26, 2018, 09:24:05 PM »
I don't remember my absolute first pony, but some of my first ones were Moonstone, Mom and baby Surprise (I lost Mom Surprise when I was young), Wavedancer, and BBE Halfnote and the Ballet Dance School. I LOVED that Ballet Dance School Playset. It got used a lot! I remember my mom would laugh because I'd say "ballot" box instead of ballet box. I didn't know why that was so funny until years later. I have an Applejack with chopped hair which I have no memory of doing, but I suppose I did. I have a couple of baby sea ponies as well that I had from year 3.

Pony Corral / Price check on merchandise
« on: March 07, 2018, 06:10:57 PM »
I don't have an imgur account so can't add photos, but I'm trying to check the price on some vintage G1 merchandise including: small yoyo featuring Sunbeam, a used Shrinky Dinks set, a used Presto Magix set, set of 8 used pony prints that came with stickers (the stickers are already attached on the prints), and various backcards. Overwhelming!

Post Merge: March 07, 2018, 09:29:07 PM

The backcards include: Teeny Tiny (with Tabby, Whiskers, Honey Pie, and Giggles), Pretty Ponies, Paradise Baby, two Teeny Tiny Twin backcards, two Baby Ballerina backcards. I'm finding literally nothing for this stuff online, so I don't know if it's really rare or what. How much do backcards go for? There isn't much under the sold listings on ebay.

Still nothing at my local Target. All of you with your 3rd+ wave of releases are so lucky! I'm afraid if and when my Target gets them they'll sell out in the first hour!

Pony Corral / Re: CC Foot Cotton Candy Question on eyes?
« on: January 04, 2018, 12:19:02 PM »
I have another Cotton Candy question that I hope is ok to ask on this thread. After the initial flatfoot Cotton Candy, I believe there were two or three concave foot versions that came out in the next couple of years. How do you tell those apart (the collector pony, the re-release for the first earth ponies, and I believe a mail-order version)?

Is it just me, or do the Princess Ponies look hilarious to everyone else as well? I crack up laughing every time I see those ridiculous eyelashes. They look like Groucho Marx eyebrows!

I got the Slumber Party gift set as a child and still have it and all the ponies. Still in great condition too! I love Pillow Talk and all the other ponies in this set. I think they're all adorable. I spent many fun hours as a kid dressing these ponies up in their nightcaps and party pants. :)

Pony Corral / Re: What are some of your long-time childhood wants?
« on: October 24, 2017, 03:43:39 PM »
My childhood grails were Surprise, both mom and baby,  and they were the very first ponies I bought after discovering eBay.

Mother and Baby Surprise were two of the first ponies I ever had way back in the early 80s. Sadly, I lost the mom when I took her to a pool and left her in an unlocked locker in the changing room. I still have my original Baby Surprise, plus another one I got just for display. I really want to get an adult Surprise again!

I have a picture of Baby Hopscotch moc still to add (sadly not my pony but donated from one of my superstar contributers) and her accessories are much the same format as baby CJ but I can't recall the colours off hand. Bottle and ribbon seems the norm. I have a feeling baby Hopscotch may have a dark pink ribbon but don't quote me for sure.

I think it would have been wonderful if they had had play and care accessories as well!

Baby Lemon Drop in shy pose had a stroller and accessories like bow tie but in lavender.

Blossom pose baby LD is like baby CJ with bottle and ribbon.

So far, Baby Hopscotch is the only Euro pony I have. They are all on my list of big wants. I want the NBBE babies as well some day... I think they did come with Play and Care accessories, just like their BBE counterparts.

Taffeta's site is very helpful.  Many of them were released with just a bottle :)

Thank you so much! I was hoping some of these babies also came with Play and Care sets (as I love having the complete collections for each baby). Maybe I'll collect some extra cribs and accessories for them just for fun!  :)

So this may be a dumb question, but what accessories did some of the euro exclusive baby ponies come with? I know that Baby Applejack came with the standard Play and Care set accessories (crib, bottle, bib, etc), and that Baby Bow Tie came with a pink stroller of sorts, but how about Hopscotch, Buttons, Lemon Drop, Honeycomb, and Baby Cherries Jubilee? Does anyone know?

Pony Corral / Re: Ebay pony listings gripes

From the perspective of someone who lists lots of ponies for sale, I can understand how it would be time consuming to note flaws or noticeably good points about each pony. And I can also see how if you missed mentioning one thing, that that would be what the buyer points out that you missed. As a buyer, it's just really helpful to have a few bones thrown our way, because photos are not always as good as the seller thinks they are. What you're seeing as you snap those photos is rarely what the buyer sees. The flash could be bright and hide blemishes. The lighting could be dark and hide things.
There are a lot of sellers who only show the pony from one angle, or don't do any close ups. I at least prefer a few different angle shots. If I'm trying to decide between three of the same ponies listed by three different sellers, I'll almost always go with the seller who has more photos and at least a small personal description of the pony. At least I'll have a better idea of what I'll be getting as opposed to paying for a grab bag.

So many great replies on this thread! I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets frustrated by lazy or rude sellers. Since it is much easier to spot issues with a pony in person than in photos, I always appreciate if a seller can at least mention possible tail rust or missing hair plugs. Or if they are only going to show photos and have no description, then those better be awesome photos and more than just two! I've tried messaging these types of sellers before with additional questions, and usually (at least with Ebay sellers), I get no response. The sellers on Etsy are much more pleasant to deal with, but the prices are often higher, and not as many ponies are listed through Etsy unfortunately.

Pony Corral / Ebay pony listings gripes

I'm sure we all spend our fair share of time on Ebay looking for ponies. I've been getting very frustrated with the way a lot of Ebay sellers represent their products. Instead of taking the time to list their ponies' flaws, they'll only use one or two shoddy photos, and tell the buyer to judge for themselves, or say what you see is what you get. It's extremely hard to see all of a pony's flaws in a couple of bad photos, so I usually never give these sellers my business, but some of them appear to be longtime successful Ebay sellers, so I'm really stumped as to how they've built up such a great business with such minimal effort at representing their products. Anyhow, just needed to rant.

Pony Corral / Re: Birthday Baby Ponies--Boy version??
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:53:45 PM »
Interesting! I wonder how many people who ordered them were disappointed when they received the standard version which didn't match the picture in the flyer. I always wish I'd ordered more of the mail order ponies back in the day since they're so collectible now.  >_<

Pony Corral / Birthday Baby Ponies--Boy version??
« on: September 03, 2017, 12:27:26 PM »
In one pamphlet that I got with ponies as a child, there is a mail order form for the birthday baby ponies (Baby Sugarcake and Baby Gametime) where they are baby brother versions. Same accessories and everything. I've been searching the internet for reference to this boy version of these ponies. Anyone else able to shed some light on this?
