Selling off my collection? Help!
« on: September 13, 2012, 05:49:38 AM »
I live in a very small one-room apartment, and my ponies are taking it over!
I don't have room for anything else except my bed, sofa and computer.
I love my ponies, but I want more space,
and I've been thinking a lot about selling off some of my collection, but it's so hard!
I can't decide which ones will have to go and which ones should stay.
I could really need the money too, but how do you pick out the ones to sell? Help!

I keep whatever has sentimental value to me, and the things I know I'll never find again in great condition in a million years (unless I'm truly desparate.)  Separate your stuff into three piles - sell, maybe sell, and keep.  The second one will probably be a large pile, but it's easier to work from than all the ponies.

Good luck!

There's plenty of us with want lists... LOL. Especially if you have g1's.
Evie has some great advice there!
Once you know what you want to sell I'd suggest starting a sales thread here, you avoid having those super awesome ebay fees. :o)

First question is how picky of a collector are you?  If it was me I'd go through and pick out the things that I would have trouble replacing.  So if something was really minty, had original curls, or was very hard to find and I wasn't sure I could find one in comparable condition ever again I'd set those aside to keep.  Then I'd move to a pony by pony search. Pick up pony... how do I feel about you pony?  Have I seen you or have you been packed away?  Does the thought of selling you make my heart sink?  Then I'd make three piles.  Keep, Sell and On the fence.  At the end I'd go back through the keep pile (b/c sometimes I realize as I go I change my mind) and the On the fence pile. Lol.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Great, thanks! I have a lot of kinda minty G1's that I think I'll sell, so I'll definately make a sales thread here then. Now I've just got to go through everything... will take years!

If you want to you might want to make a list as you go through them of pony name-condition-sell/keep/trade-any flaws or noteworthy things.  That way you don't have to go through it again or dig through a huge pile if someone has a question about flaws. :) Good luck selling!

Also when you sell the picture makes the sale a lot of times.  You will get more if you can get good pictures.  So If you sell them in lots or group shots that is fine just try to make them look appealing. ;)

Yes, don't sell the special ones. You can't get those back.
