Any advice for shipping a vintage Mirror?
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:22:58 PM »
I have one up for sale on Ebay, but I've never shipped something pony-related that was fragile, though I have shipped ceramics and other breakables. Anyone have experience with this particular type of mirror? It's 8.5 x 11 and seems fairly sturdy, and I will be boxing and bubble wrapping, but figured I'd check for advice from the experts.....

I would double box it to be on the safe side and we have that same mirror hanging up in Thoths room.

Wrap in fabric, like a towel.  And double-boxing it sounds like a good idea!

Lots of packing peanuts too. They're annoying little things, but they'd absorb any shock the box would get hit with ;) I agree with the double box idea as well.

Actually I would stick to bubble wrap, towels can hold moisture and really add to the weight of a package.

bubble wrap it each way(around, and up and down) at least once, and don't forget to make sure it has padding on *all* sides...including underneath, in the bottom of the box.  I'd put at least 2 inches of peanuts on each side, including around the edges. :)

It's on my watch list too, but you can have it, Sebby!  :)  It's pretty, but I didn't want it that much anyway.  I'm not as into merch as you are.

And I agree, double-boxing works well.  I've gotten several ceramic ponies over the last year, and they've all survived transport because I requested double-boxing.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

Also don't use a box that it just fits in, make sure there is a bit of room around the mirror so you can pad it well. I have shipped heaps of breakables over the years and only had I think 3 breaks during transit, due to the carelessness of postal staff, not my packaging. Good luck and I hope you can find a way to package this lovely item well enough to absorb anydamage the parcel may encounter on its journey :)

Assuming it wont remove the paint you could place something over the mirror to absorb any impact..a piece of cardboard shaped to the mirror and then masking tape to hold it in place

And then on top of that bubble wrap, double box, etc etc
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

omg! thanks so much for the advice! :) Cardboard,  bubblewrap, box, peanuts, bigger box with at least 2'' breathing room on all sides, stuff with peanuts till there is no movement.
Thats my plan for now. :)
