I know lots of people are complaining of shipping delays right now, but this one is baffling. It came from several states east of here. It was supposed to arrive before Christmas (it is a gift...guess my recipient is getting it late). However, it sat at a Madison facility (45 minutes away) for a week. Now the tracking is saying it's somewhere in Iowa. So...it sat for a week, and instead of coming to my house, it bypasses it and keeps going west? I was getting impatient last week and was wishing I knew which Madison facility it was being held hostage at; I'm in Madison 4 times a week and could I just go pick it up there? Ugh!

It's for my niece, and my sister is coming by today to drop off her gifts for my kids, and it would have been nice to send ours back with her (I already put her off once last Wednesday when she wanted to stop by then). I'm going to just have to admit that I don't have my crap together, and sorry, I had a whole year to put your kids' presents together but I dropped the ball.

@LadyAmalthea

Eh. Logistics are funky right now. Sometimes the packages have to move farther away because there is no room for them to move to the next closest facility. There are consequences to packages just sitting right now too. They are doing "last in, first out" right now, so there are a TON of packages from Nov that can't move at all until they move the newer packages out of the way.

It's really not your fault, you didn't drop the ball.

Got woken up at 5 this morning by ALL the smoke alarms in our house going off (there are at least 3 on each level, including the basement).  The cause?  The detector in my parents' room is faulty.  It was installed in 1999 and should have been replaced before now (I think they should all be replaced so we know when they were done IMO) and because they're all connected as a security feature, when one gets triggered for any reason, they ALL go off--if you ignore the chirruping when the battery dies it will trigger them all, too.  Not how I wanted to wake up the morning I have to go back to work after being off for 2 weeks.

Ah. Thanks for explaining. As long as it gets here eventually, I suppose. If I check the tracking now, it says that it departed the Iowa facility 48 hours ago...destined for where exactly, I don't know. Doesn't really matter now; I've explained to my sister why their gifts will be late, so it can take its sweet time.

Thank you BlackCurtains, Taffeta and Ponybookworm.  :hug: :hug:

I barely slept last night because what happened yesterday kept replaying in my head.  Two of the gifts I sent out for Christmas were stolen before they reached their destination. :sad:

That's terrible...will the mail service be able to do anything, since it happened before they were delivered?

That's horrible :( I can't believe someone would do that. I echo what Ponybookworm said, and also Lady Amalthea. Is there anything that can be done via the postal service?

My trivial (but probably won't be trivial going forward) complaint for the day.

The dreaded letter came this morning. By which I mean the letter telling me my disability support is due to end and I need to contact them. Last time this happened it was the start of a year of hell. Wish me luck...
