Title: Does anyone recognize these plastic cat toys?
Post by: SweetNightmare on May 14, 2022, 01:22:42 PM
So for a very long time I've been trying to find more information about these toys that I've owned for a long time. Around 2004-2006 I've seen these neat sets of cat figurines. They look like basic realistic plastic cat figurines but each one had a theme and an outfit. When I was a child I had two and my sister had one.

The ones that I had were (I've given them names based on the theme that they had):
Skater cat (I'm missing the game and the phone that she came with as well as the picture )

More cats under spoiler

Spoiler
Popstar cat (pretty sure she's complete but she did come with two mice that don't fit the theme)

And my sister's gardener cat (the baby cat is missing a bow from the tail, I'm pretty sure hers didn't come with a hat visible in the picture frame)

And recently I found three of these cats:

Skater cat (I think this one may have come with the cap)

Knitting cat

And fishing cat

I do remember that these were sold in places where a lot of cheaper knockoff toys were sold. And as I said these were sold around 2004-2006.
So these may be a knockoff of some line that I've never heard about. They do seem pretty well made to me though (besides the packaging that did look a bit knockoff like from what I remember). They do not have any markings on them (they do have an empty rectangle box on their tummies or under their paws that would look like a place for these).

I would be really thankful if any of you that have any information about these.

There's also dog versions floating around.

The site mentioned that the review was an April Fool's joke but I only think that it's because they weren't typical content for this site. This site tends to focus on female super heroes and these are definitely not that. I do think they were an actual product and the fact that you remember them confirms it.

But it looks like there's not that much info about them besides this post on that website. Okay after looking for a little bit it looks like they ma have been made by Chap Mei.
But I'm happy that I almost have all of them now

Thank you so much for the link!

Oh man these almost look familiar to me? Not the clothes so much but the base figures... gah now I'm trying to figure out if I have one or two of these floating around the house or if my mind's just playing tricks on me and I'm getting them mixed up with a similar toyline xD They're soooo cute though, I love them! I miss random little toylines like this.

Collecting them rn is not easy since it's hard to find them by name (Chap Mei cats and Chap Mei dogs bring the most results) and with all their accessories.
There seems to be only six cats and six dog characters so maybe with lost of luck it could be possible to collect them all.

Maybe you did have them \ see them. I did also have some plastic cat toys that looked similar to these (just regular realistic plastic cats with no outfits) so you never know. I guess we still get short lived toy lines that feel like snapshot of the time when they were sold.

I agree!

The sculpting on these reminds my of old Kenner Kitty/Puppy in my Pocket. I wonder if they’re by the same toy sculptor. Really cute. I like the cats a lot.

Oh my gosh this post just unlocked a hidden memory.
I had tons of these cats (and the matching dogs!) that I played with at my grandmother's.
I believe I might still have them in storage somewhere.

My family always shopped at Tuesday Mornings for toys as I was a g3 pony obsessed child who also collected breyers,
and I'm pretty sure that's where we must have purchased these kitties! We also shopped at an old store called Alco, which
I think was a small-town version of Shopco.

I'll see if I can find them and get pictures! I remember the accessory sets too.
