So what do you do with bridesmaid dresses...
« on: June 26, 2013, 10:13:58 AM »
So my best friend, of 20 years. Is renewing her vows in a few weeks. This is also acting as the "official wedding" since when her and her now husband got married, both of them were in the marines, and being in California away from all family, they just went before the judge and had the sort of "paper wedding."

Anyway I'm excited that I get to be a brides maid, Iv never been IN a wedding before, and I'm really happy that I get to be a part of it. The only thing is, I cant afford to KEEP a dress I will never wear more then once, that Iv paid a lot of money for. xD

My friend let us pick out our own dresses, her only requirement was that they be "apple red" and preferably floor length. so this is what I picked out, after much hunting lol.

http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Sleeveless-Satin-V-Neck-Dress-with-Slim-Skirt-81047_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Long-Bridesmaid-Dresses

I have to order it as soon as some sales clear so hopefully they dont run out of my size/color before that, since the dress is on sale. >.<

What do you guys think? this was one of only 3 options on this site, and every where else I looked I just wasn't finding anything at all. but I really do like this style, for me personally. but I really dont have any experience wearing dresses. and Im really nervous.

also do you know anywhere that I could re-sell it later on? besides ebay?

You could try re-selling it on craigslist or maybe a resale shop near you. My advise as far as the dress goes if you order  the dress and it is  just a tad big it's ok . If its a tad to small reorder you can always have the dress taken in but you can't make fabric appear that was never there. Make sure you give yourself enough time to reorder just in case you need to and make sure you will be comfortable (well as comfortable as you can bee in a dress!). I personally like the style of the dress you chose

yeah I did order slightly larger, my grandma is.. well shes used a sewing machine her entire life so, if it needs to be taken in I know i can count on her.

ha the one i picked out before i found this on was a strapless -___- i was just like oh no i must find something else this is very scary xD Im one of those people who is kinda chubby with a smaller bust... so I just had this feeling that the chest bit would be way too big lol, im really happy I found the v neck. at least I wont feel like its going to fall down T.T

Did you order already?

Oh, I have an apple red floor length one! What size are you?

I'm looking at this site for my next dress, they're used-  http://www.tradesy.com/weddings/bridesmaids-dresses-and-mobs/

The dress the bride wants us to wear is $200, and I just lost my job, so there's no way I can afford that!

That's lovely! There are a few bridal consignment shops around here. Also, I sold a bonus bridesmaid dress from our wedding on CL.

@Sarahlacewing:
Yes I did look into renting, I would have preferred that xD just so I wouldn't have to worry about what to do with the dress after, and possibly not paying as much. but every where I looked, had very little options when it came to the color and length requirements. :/

@skyrocketneko:
I have not ordered yet, I have to get some shipping quotes to a few buyers here on the arena before I accept payments, before i can buy the dress. :p

Thats why I was kinda happy my friend let us find our own dresses with just a few requirements, she knows I don't have a job right now and money is always kinda tight. Ill PM you about the size!

I have a bridesmaid dress I need to get rid of. My boyfriend had to help me pay for it because it was more than what I could afford. :/ I just don't know where to resell it too. It's only been worn once.

I have several in my closet!

 I did, however, sell one on ebay several years back!

If I ever end up being a bridesmaid, I'll let you know ;)

I'd probably end up keeping it, but I have heard of programs that collect (not sure if it's donation or paid) used prom/bridesmaid dresses for girls that can't afford prom dresses.

I have an apple red dress from David's Bridal in my closet. I am short and on the larger side, so I'm not sure it will fit, but I just want to put that out there.
P.S. it is strapless though :(

I've never been a bridesmaid so I have no idea!  I could imagine you could resell one in good condition especially since you're only wearing it once.  XD
