Anyone else remember Friendship Gardens for the PC? It had you creating your own pony to eventually head over the rainbow and Ponyland, and you could interact with Ivy, Morning Glory, Lightheart, Sweet Berry, and Sundance.
Here's the Install background which is very cute...

And here's some ponies I made! The orange pony I named Dreamwish and the blue pony Sea Side.

"You have to move your pony out of the way."
...That butterfly will never leave me. ;)

Me too XD She will never leave my head!

I had that game when I was kid. I was so excited to go to the rainbow castle after you got your pony ready. Only for you to NOT go! I was so mad and disappointed haha!

I love quaint little PC games like this :) I liked to make myself a teal pony with blue hair named Lancer (please ignore there's a pony in Tales that is called exactly that). I find it to be a very peaceful game.

There's a site (can't remember which)m where you can download old games, then using a CD emulator, you can play the game again. I have the game that way at the moment & it's cute

I got it running again on my computer! Here's a pony I just made.

I've tried to play it a few times but could never get it working right. Maybe I'll have another go at it.

I found it sad to send a pony over the rainbow. I didn't want them to go.
^^ I was 17-18 at the time...;)

I played the hay out of this game when I was little !! I remember it so vividly. The first time I sent my pony over the rainbow, I thought it would unlock a new region to explore. But no, it was the end of the game. I would never see my pony again. That was so heartbreaking !! So, yeah, I've immediately adopted everyone's strategy : play the whole game over and over again without sending my pony to the rainbow.
Otherwise, the game is very cute. I like its design, the ponies look adorable and the assets are fun and old, but in a good way.
I should investigate on how to run it again. I can't for the life of me find the CD I played it on back then, but I downloaded it on Abandonware I think.

This thread got me feeling nostalgic, so I pulled out the CD-ROM and started the game up. Alas, it is not compatible with new Windows. Keeps freezing up.

I have the game, but it's not compatible with my PC. I'll see if I can dig it out, my parents have a still functioning windows XP laptop that maybe I can borrow ^^ It's such an adorable game!

For those having trouble playing it, it runs near perfectly on a Windows 98 VM. I used PCemu to play it.

I've not played it myself, but hearing about it, I always felt how sad it must be to let go of your pony, but it never entered my head that there could be someone who didn't know what was happening - now that you've said that, I can imagine someone thinking they were going to get the next part of the game, only to find they were releasing their pony. I can only imagine how that must have felt...

I was always sad letting my pony go...but I was REALLY scared of the rainbow fading cause I thought they would die. (I've never actually tried it...what happens?)

I remember letting the rainbow accidentally fade, all it happens it that your pony sulks around and hides from you, but you can make it happy again if you bring it food and take care of it like normal
