I remember my stepsons getting into these. I got them some for Christmas when they told me that's what they wanted, and I had no idea what they were. They were so excited showing me how they transformed into a ball and telling me about the game, and I remember thinking it was kind of cool.
I collected Zoobles, which were the "girls" version.
