I want it out of box, but I don’t want to debox the one I have. What does it go for MIB?

If there is one set that I would like to counsel Hasbro on their decision making process for, this is the set.

The scents. are. horrible.

They are also really insipid colours, and their poses look weird.

Not a favourite. Fortunately my BS is not scented anymore, but I went through a period in the early 2000s that I had so many of her I was literally giving her away.

Scented toys in general are not my thing, imo they rarely smell good and tend to discolor over time (my Sherbet was lovely until her body turned bruise-colored while sitting on my shelf). I also agree about the colors - an ice cream theme seems like such an obvious choice for pastel colored toys, and yet they chose the most boring, non-ice creamy colors ever. Their names also drive me crazy - Banana Surprise, Sherbet and Swirly Whirly make sense, but what is a Coco Berry? Crunch Berry is just lazy (and gross sounding, who wants their berries to crunch? I’m not eating that ice cream.) and not at all ice creamy, and I can’t even remember the green one’s name despite her being my favorite of the set. The UK names are better, but Chocolate Chip being blue and pink still makes no sense. This set is just full of missed opportunities.

X-posted from the Out Now and Coming Soon thread, but I found them for $12.99 each at my local Ace Hardware. Probably gonna go back and get the other 3 tomorrow if they're still there.

The Ace by me is owned by a local family, and its pretty unusual for an Ace. In addition to the standard hardware stuff they have a lot of grills and grilling stuff (which might be normal for an ace, idk), a large farm section, a post office, a fudge/Blue Bell ice cream shop, a large section dedicated to housewares and stuff made by smaller local companies, and a very impressive Breyer horse section. That's the main the reason I go, lol - they're my main Breyer dealer.

Wow, I wish I had the confidence the person who wrote the article and asserted that information as factual despite having done .2 seconds of research has.

Found the Basic Fun Twinkle Eyes for $13 each at my local Ace Hardware! They had about 3 of each except for Gingerbread, who had 2. I went ahead and grabbed Gingerbread and I'll probably be back for the others.

Also when the box says"fans new and old" I'm guessing they mean "old but still in the target audience age range," that is, actual children.

Agreed.

I like this set! If we get Applejack, Rarity and Fluttershy in G5 style I’ll probably buy them.

I had Grand Champion horses as a kid and their painted leg markings and hooves suffered a lot.  So I was guessing ponies would as well.  Now, I did play with them (and my ponies) outside quite a bit, so that may vary by child.

My 90s Grand Champions are just fine. Some may be a bit yellowed but they came like that to me, when I started collecting again.

Seems like it depends on the child and how they were played with  if the conditions I’ve found ponies in secondhand are any indication of how most kids play with their toys, those socks and stripes would be doomed. Which in turn would make toys with surviving marks more expensive.

Seconding that socks would wear off with play - all my childhood Breyers fell victim to this.

I'd noticed the site hadn't updated in a while, and a few days ago I discovered this article. What a tremendous loss. Janice's dedication was truly incredible, and it's so sad that she passed away at such a relatively young age.

I'm all for this! Yeah, they made it sound terrible, total fearmongering, ugh. This will be great if it cuts back on waste, and it's not like most vanilla flavoring isn't already made of chemicals.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with kids and everything to do with outspoken parents screaming about toys "going against/confusing kids about traditional family values" or "turning their kids gay/trans/whatever" by having a male whose hair can be styled. I remember one time I was in Target and this very young boy wanted a toy and his mom got SUPER angry and was like "NO you can't have that it's a GIRL toy for GIRLS" and dragged him away like she thought the toy was gonna poison him. Something about boys doing traditionally feminine things makes people lose their minds, especially when it comes to children.

Having all brushables and 1 molded hair figure is gonna drive me bonkers, so unless they rerelease Hitch with some luscious locks I'm gonna pass on the brushables. Not super impressed by the hair in the pictures, either, but I guess we'll have to wait til they hit stores to actually feel the quality. Those big, non-articulated brushables are gorgeous, though! If they make the whole 5 that way I'll definitely buy them.

So glad they're moving away from brushable hair - I love brushables, but hair quality has been consistently plummeting in recent years, with no sign of turning around. Nothing bothers me more than frizzy hair, so if Hasbro can't do brushable hair right, I'd rather them not do it at all. Plus, molded hair covers G5's oddly shaped heads and necks better than brushable hair, and makes them look more like, yknow, actual ponies. Also yay, Hitch toy!

Yeah but they practiced on cheap stuff first. You don't buy a canvas and frame when you're just learning to paint.

Besides, I said adults that think they can customize. Not people actually trying to learn, but think they already know everything and make crap anyway. You can't give them advice because they think they don't need it.

Agreed, there's definitely a difference when it comes to how much respect the artist has for their materials and canvas.
