Hello, I found yesterday Dancing Butterflies from the fleamarket, and today I suddenly noticed that she has pink butterflies on the places that my other DB has blue butteflies. I´d like to know is that a common thing for DB? :)
Please click photos to see them full size. She is on the right side. ;)

There are definitely known variations with curly or straight hair releases but this is a new one for me personally. A She looks very pretty that way, though. Nice find :D I wonder if there are others...
-
Very interesting! I didn't know about this variation! My Dancing Butterflies is like your first one on the left.
-
Oh wow, I've never seen/heard of this before! That's so cool!! Now I want to check mine.
Awesome find, congrats! :)
-
Wow, this is cool!! I'm going to check mine as soon as I get home!
I did a quick scroll through eBay and the 'usual' version seems to be the one on the left, where the butterflies on her left shoulder are blue.
-
Wow, how neat! I have never seen this variation- thanks for sharing :D Mine is same as the one on the left. Just curious, are the bottom of both of their feet marked the same?
-
Thank you all for your interesting comments. :) And yes Brightglowpony, the bottom of their feet look the same. Their eyes and eyelinings are also a bit different. This has black and the left one has lighter ones.
-
This is really cool!
I also had no idea! Now, it makes me want both as well. I love variants like this, especially regarding my fave ponies. (Of which she is one) It is too bad they didn't reverse the one on her face...that would have made it complete. If I had both I'd def get one set in curls. I ran and checked mine, and she is indeed the 'more common seeming' one. Great discovery & CG on having both!

What a fun variant! Now we all have to look at our Dancing Butterflies and check! :)

Thats so fascinating! What a find! I need to run back and check my DB now!

Wow, that is so cool! Wonder how many others are like the one on the right. Mine is like the one on the left.

How interesting! It looks like you found a very special variant, congrats! :D

Very cool. Congrats.
-
What a great find, congratulations!
-
Wow, it's pretty neat that new variants are still being found in the wild today. I wonder how she came to exist, especially if she turns out to be OOAK. ^.^
Congrats on your gorgeous new pony!
-
Thank you all! :D And yes, it would be very interesting to know how she came to exist. Someone just put the wrong colors in to the stamping machine?? Or is she a prototype? That would be super exiting if she would be OOAK!
I wonder would she be a good candidate to be added to the my little wiki site.. :)

Definitely! Maybe another collector has more info somewhere! Either way, definitely worth being part of the wiki.

She is so neat, congrats what a neat find
-
She is GORGEOUS!! What a wonderful find - congratulations!! I had no idea she existed (have been to check my own and yep...she's the "normal" one...*sighs*). My wish list just got even longer, lol!

The one in the US commercial certainly has a pink butterfly in the place where there is normally a blue one, but it isn't a match. The US one is here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkrloYNN7xQ
The UK advert sadly used the US images :/ although the words were all different.
I know that a lot of the stuff in scandinavia came in UK style packaging so I wonder if a good place to check would be 1988 catalogues for the UK and for Europe for this set. I say 1988 because they're not in the 1987 line in Europe. I have the pictures for the 1987 Hasbro catalogue but not 1988.
And especially if Finland had catalogues of this kind...or club material...or comic adverts. I remember Finland had comics, so maybe detective work might track down some clues about her history?
She might, though, be a mystery pony forever, like Susie and Billie - clearly factory made but with no real explanation why there only seems to be one of her.
Right now we don't know she is OOAK but if she isn't, it seems strange that nobody has ever mentioned it before. In any case, definitely keep her very safe and hopefully we'll track down some clues to answer the questions she raises!

Wow, she's very cool! :D
Mine also just has the usual blue butterflies on the shoulder.
-
I checked mine and it has blue butterflies on the shoulder but black liner.
-
I´m so glad that you all have been checking your Dancing Butterflies for me! :grouphug:
It was very nice to see the one in the US commercial. Thank you for sharing the link Taffeta. :)
It was also fun to notice that the butterflies on that pony in the commercial are kind of a different shaped butterflies, and they are stamped on a slightly different places than the usual too. Interesting!
-
I have two DB's, both have blue like the left-most one in your picture. Seems to me the most likely situation that would have resulted in your reversed pink girl is someone at the factory loaded the paints in the wrong stampers, and it wasn't caught by QC before they got packaged up and left the factory. So there probably are more out there, but they may not be in collector hands (or just nobody noticed). Good find!

HAHA yes this! This is so cool, I love it! Mine is like the one on the left.

The one in the commercial is probably a prototype that was stamped by hand.
-
That is so awesome! I had to check mine too, but it's the normal one.

that is SO cool, what an amazing find! and she's in such gorgeous condition too!
