Title: Tsum Tsum collectors?
Post by: lovesbabysquirmy on October 24, 2017, 02:04:46 PM
So my DD has recently discovered these lovely things... only for me to discover that dozens have been discontinued and most run <$50 on the secondary market....

any hope on finding them in bulk or for reasonable prices? :(  advice from others is welcome!

We had them at work last year, and nothing sense, I can keep an eye out at the thrift for you.

I was eyeing them to collect but they pump out so many sets so fast...and the price bump at the stores didn't help. You're talking about the plush, right? There's a plastic set but it seems to sell less.
I'm sure kids like them, but they are pretty new. Yard sales or consignment shops may have some for cheap if the parents are unaware of the secondary market.

Are there certain sets or characters you're looking for? I can keep an eye out for you. I have seen them at value village once in a while. Walmart gets them and they don't sell as fast there but also not as much selection.

Disney loves to make limited edition things they believe adults will go after. They continue to put out some neat ones who will have limited runs as well. I have a little minis collection myself. Most of them I have weren't too hard to find or I purchased them when they came out. I only collect the Disney Store ones, personally, as they are much better quality in my eyes.

The Disney Store has plush sales off and on, so those are good times to stock up. Sometimes eBay has bulk listings,  but ebay is usually over priced in general.

Yes I am talking about the little plushies!

Thankfully there are TWO Disney Stores in Calgary.  However, in-store they only sell the "classics" - Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, Daisy,  Winnie the Pooh and friends, and then whatever current series there is.  Right now it's the Lion Guard, you know, that sequel series from the Lion King?  All the others have been discontinued at this point...

DH and I have been scouring thrift stores but no luck so far.  I don't think parents are apt to get rid of the silly things, they are quite pricey.  It's like how we never find BAB plushies - clothes yes, actual bears/ponies, no.

Good to know they are at Walmart too.  I think I've seen them but it was before DD was interested.

Best news of all though, she did flat out ask me, "So why can't you MAKE more?"  :D

I suspect Christmas ones will be coming in store soon! Looks like they have them online now.

During my summer Walmart shopping spree they had blind bags on clearance.  I don't collect them but I can not resist clearance toys.  I would wait till after the holiday and see if they get marked down again.

I've seen lots at Walmarts, Hot Topic, Target and JCPenney. They're out there! New ones also show up on the Disney store (they have some cute ones!) and I believe the site even offers a tsum tsum subscription service if that's of interest to you  :)

Subscription box is not available to ship to Canada... I already looked into it.

Not a single one on the thrift store shelves today... seems like the store is trying to purge the carnival prizes from this summer...
We have to go to Walmart for groceries (and candy) this weekend so I will look there again.

I will keep an eye out for you when I'm thrift hunting. And I find BAB plushies once in a while too. There hasn't been much of anything good in a while though.
