Title: What is this toy called? 90s plastic animals with hair. Not Little Pretty.
Post by: SwirlyWhirly on April 05, 2018, 02:55:17 AM
In the early 90s I had a couple of plastic cats (or were they dogs?) resembling the Little Pretty animals.

They looked like cats or dogs and had long brushable hair. The hair fell down on both sides of the body. The fur style looked kinda like that of a long haired Shih Tzu or Yorkshire Terrier. I had two big ones and two babies. At least one of them was pink. One might have been purple, or yellow? All were in a standing position, the big ones with heads facing left I think.

I've often wondered what brand they were. They always reminded me of My Little Ponies because of the similar colour theme and brushable hair. Maybe a Little Pretty knock-off? I think they looked much better than Little Pretty though, with the fur being over the body as opposed to just on the head and tail.

Anyone knows anything about these toys?

Your description made me think of Sweetie Pups - Party Time

but not quite... perhaps a knockoff of Sweetie Pups like Cititoys, or Little Pretty knockoffs like you suggested?

I'm by no means an expert on toy ID, but were they by any chance something to do with Lady LovelyLocks? There were a lot of very hairy animals in that toy-line! Either that or Sweetie Pups, as Tulips suggested.

Also, I have a fakie Pretty Kitty style cat who has hair all along her back as well as a sort of 'mane' and 'tail'. They used to come in mother-and-baby sets and did other animals such as dogs and bears as well. Might be a similar sort of thing?

Edited to add: here's a picture of my fakie. Her hair can be brushed to cover the sides of her body.

There were also brushable bear figures too, to make this all more complicated :)

Definitely I would dig through Ghost of the Doll and try to find it!

It's neither of those I'm afraid.

Not Lady LovelyLocks. It looks a lot like your fakie cat though. Of all the furry plastic cats and dogs from the 90s I've seen so far this is the one which I think most likely might be what I had. It's not exactly like I remember mine but I haven't seen mine in more than 20 years so I might remember it wrong. It's at least very similar. Do you know what it's called or which company manufactured it?

I couldn't find it on Ghost of the Doll. :( It might have been something regional not sold in many countries.

EDIT:
Shaz - I sent the photo of your fakie to my sister and she confirmed that's the type of cats we had! :D Do you know who manufactured them?

Yay, glad you identified your fakies! Sadly I have no idea which company made them. Mine doesn't have any markings at all, not even a 'Made in China'.

I remember seeing a website that described them as Little Pretty fakies and said about them coming in mother and baby sets and about there being cats, dogs and bears available, but I now can't find it.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for more information about them but at least I know more about them now than I did before.  I had no idea there were cats, dogs and bears! :) Thanks for the help!
