Pony Corral / Who do you think are the most popular G1 ponies?
« on: May 30, 2022, 04:49:14 PM »
If you had to pick 5 (ish) G1 ponies as the most popular, who would it be? This includes the show, toys, comic, etc. Just like...to the general public, who would you say the masses flock to? I know there's a lot of ponies that are very common and absolutely everywhere (Glory, BlueBelle, etc.) but are they actually the most popular?

For me, Gusty and Fizzy instantly come to mind, but after that, I'm not really sure. Maybe Wind Whistler?

Pony Corral / Can anyone tell me about this pony?
« on: November 15, 2021, 12:05:25 PM »
Hi friends! Yesterday my husband and I visited a flea market and I found an incredibly interesting G3 pony that I've never seen before. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me figure out how to add a photo to my post, so I'm hoping I can describe her with enough details.

She has a light blue body, with a black, painted on "bodysuit". Her mane and tail are solid pink, and she has these clear "shoes" glued to the bottom of her hooves. Her eye is black with black dots decorating underneath it, along with blue flowers. Her bodysuit is also decorated with gold flowers and a symbols that sort of looks like an octopus.

I don't think she's been customized by a collector since the designs look printed on her, not painted, and I also don't think she's a fakie since she has Hasbro printed on the bottom of her shoe.

Anyway, I hope someone knows which pony I'm referring to, and who she is. If she is real I'm sure she has a really interesting story behind her! Thanks!

Pony Corral / Share pics of the prettiest color combo on a pony!
« on: October 08, 2021, 09:49:40 AM »
So this weekend hubby and I are going to one of those paint-your-own-sculpture scenarios where they glaze it and fire it up for you afterward. I'm really excited and I already bought an adorable unicorn shaped trinket box I'll be painting! I'm waffling over what colors I should paint it, so I thought what better way to figure it out than looking at ponies!

So I'd love to see any pics of the ponies you think have the prettiest color scheme, regardless of pose or symbol. I'm partial to white-bodied ponies, but I'm trying to avoid too much white. Maybe blue or green? I also really like pink, but I'm afraid that's too much of a cliche at this point

Pony Corral / What's your first 2021 pony purchase!
« on: January 04, 2021, 10:26:27 AM »
Aside from a few random thrift store finds and Christmas gifts, I sort of forgot about pony collecting last year  :drunk:

But it's a new year! And I may or may not have already placed an order on eBay for a few new ponies to make their way home to me...

What about you!? I'd love to hear about your very first pony purchase for 2021!!

Off Topic / Anyone get into horse riding as an adult?
« on: October 27, 2020, 11:23:03 AM »
Growing up, I definitely fit the 'horse-crazy girl' stereotype pretty spot on. I researched them, drew them, begged my parents to buy me one, the whole thing. Of course, realistically we weren't ever in a position for such a thing, but every summer I went to horse camp to indulge my horsey fantasies.

As I got older though, I stopped attending camp (primarily because the camp hired a new set of instructors who were all very mean and I started dreading it), and horses sort of faded from my life a bit as I went to college and dealt with all the drama my early twenties brought on. Yet about 5-6 years ago, when my husband I were dating, that love was rekindled as we started working together with some horses that belonged to a friend. My husband is brand new to horses, and our friend taught us a lot of ground work during our time together.

We've since talked about taking lessons together, and are considering it (if Covid ever lets us) after we move sometime next year. But I admit, I'm extremely intimidated. At 31 (probably 32 by the time we can realistically sign up), I feel embarrassed, and that I'm too old to start. It often seems like if you didn't start riding as a kid, then don't even bother. It doesn't help that as much as I love horses, I'm also terrified of them! And it seems instructors have even less patience for adults who are scared.

I know I shouldn't let fear hold me back from doing something I really want to do, but likewise, I know I won't gain any enjoyment if I know I'm being judged for being clueless and afraid. I still remember those mean horse instructors from my youth that definitely quashed my love of riding, and I'm not exactly ready to experience that a second time.

So I'd love to hear from anyone who started riding outside of those "perfect, prime" years. How did it turn out for you?

Pony Corral / A quick question about G3 Loop de La
« on: October 20, 2020, 10:58:52 AM »
Are her ice skates removeable? Every photo I've found of her, she's still wearing them, and I'm starting to wonder if they're molded onto her (like I assume her crown is)? Or am I wrong and can they pop off like any other pony shoe?

And if they can come off, can she stand in any capacity on her own? Or does she topple over?

Thanks for any help  :lovey:

Introductions / I'm back after 5 years!
« on: October 14, 2020, 11:34:45 AM »
Wow! I can't believe it's been 5 years since I've posted here! I've never stopped loving my ponies, but after getting married and moving between 3 homes and generally not having anywhere to display them, they've definitely been pushed to the back of mind (and closet) for awhile now.

But things are changing again! We're currently in the research stage of our biggest move yet, out of California completely (we're thinking Colorado, but nothing is confirmed just yet), and my mind is all aflutter with new possibilities. For too long I have wished for a room to display my ponies and dolls, and with that possibility finally on the horizon I'm positively buzzing with ideas!

I love collecting holiday themed ponies, and with the holidays around the corner that definitely has made the urge to display them even stronger. I recently pulled them out of the closet to look through them, and I'm flabbergasted at how many ponies I don't even remember! It might be time to thin the herd, though the thought of letting any of them go is heartbreaking!

Anyway, I'm very excited to be back and posting on these lovely forums. I've definitely missed the warm and kind vibe of this community and I'm happy to be a part of it once more!

Pony Corral / SUPER simple hair styles for ponies of all sizes?
« on: May 18, 2015, 11:17:38 AM »
I openly admit, I'm TERRIBLE at styling pony hair! Almost all of my ponies wind up with the classic pony-braid because I can't really manage anything else! But as I've been considering new ways to display my ponies, I'm recently liking the idea of only displaying four at a time for a clean look with a splash of cute. But of course, this means that the displayed ponies must be in absolute pristine condition (for me anyway, I'm not saying that's how it must be for all collections of course ;) ). And there comes the dreaded hair styling problem again.

So fellow pony collectors, any help? I've tried the curling methods I've found and they never seem to turn out, and straightening only seems to work about half the time.

Off Topic / Poll: Help me choose a name!
« on: May 13, 2015, 03:17:06 PM »
So, as many artists and shop owners know, a name is a very important part of someone's identity. I still have a long way to go in honing my craft, but I have been toying with the idea of creating a second DeviantArt account in order to showcase my more original artwork, rather than fanart. My goal is to someday expand from selling prints to an online shop featuring small, pretty little things like bows, jewelry and the like. I don't expect this to make a lot of money, but it's a dream of mine I've wanted to pursue for years.

Perhaps I'll change the name again in the future, I don't know. But I've been thinking about it for a long time and I have a few words that I feel describe me and the romantic, whimsical, sweet vibe I'm aiming for. I would love your vote and any suggestions!!

Pony Corral / Feeling discouraged about collecting?
« on: January 22, 2015, 12:23:44 PM »
So..I don't really have a "collector's gene" I suppose. While I like finding ponies at random at flea markets and thrift shops, I don't really enjoy the thrill of the hunt of searching down specific ponies on my wishlist-especially when they're new releases.

I feel like I've been out of the pony game for awhile now and I come back to find G4 is actually releasing new ponies! I was smitten with FS Sunset Shimmer (btw, is Coco Pommel still going to be released?) and was disappointed when the first two stores I went to didn't have her. Finally my fiance found her at a different store and I'm so thrilled to have her. I've been researching more about the new ponies I've missed and love Holly Dash and Diamond Mint, only it seems they're not released in the US. With funds so low right now I can't afford spending the $20+ they go for on ebay, and it's disappointing when I know if they were sold in Target they'd be $5.

I guess I sound spoiled since the US tends to get all the releases, so I apologize. I just feel down since I'm afraid that if I wait their price will get even higher, but I just can't swing what they cost right now either since they're not available in local stores.

Off Topic / Unicorn themed wedding! Ideas?
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:34:36 PM »
So, my fiance and I are getting married in Disneyland. We both LOVE fairy tales and magic and royalty and all those types of things. Up until now we've been planning our wedding with a general Fairytale type of vibe. Not overly "Disney", but just a general magical feel. Just recently my fiance and I have been discussing and it struck me how much I REALLY want to incorporate unicorns into our theme and decor too. I'm so excited! We had been tossing around the idea of deer, which I also love, but I was afraid it would give the whole wedding a rustic or Christmas feel (we're getting married early January), neither of which I want. Unicorns fit our theme so much better and they're after all, my favorite mythical creature.

Problem is, even though fiance is totally on board, I'm somewhat hesitant. I'm already afraid of everyone seeing our wedding as a childish, immature event, and I'm trying so hard to keep it a classy, elegant day. I've been searching a lot for ideas about how to tastefully include unicorns in our decor in some way (staying away from a cake topper as we already know we'd like for that), and so far all I'm coming across  are little girls' birthday parties. This further makes me think that it might be a stupid idea and we should leave the unicorns alone.

But I know this is a creative, nonjudgmental group which is why I'm coming to you! I would really appreciate ANY suggestions, ideas, or even just words of encouragement. Thanks!!

Off Topic / I'm engaged!! Could I possible alter my aunt's old dress?
« on: December 14, 2014, 08:18:32 PM »
Long time no post, but while I've been gone I've gotten engaged!! And I’m so excited, today I went to my grandma’s and she pulled out both my mom and aunt’s old wedding gowns! My mom had the idea that I might be able to wear one of them if I wished so I just wanted to see what they even looked like. My mom’s is very extravagent, so it won’t be able to be altered much so I think I’ll probably pass, but my aunt’s is much more simpler and I was shocked when I put it on at how well it actually fit (seeing as it’s over 40 years old).

This dress is super special. My aunt passed away a few years ago and she was like my second mother. She had no children and no one else in my family who would really be able to wear this dress. I’m basically allowed to do as I please with it, and while I would like to alter it, I don’t want to change it TOO much as I’d still like to honor her. I’m not wearing any type of crinoline as I just slipped it over my regular clothes but it seems capable of becoming quite poofy.

I’m hesitant however, because I admittedly do still want to go dress shopping. My hope was to wear this either for the reception, or, as we are having a Disney wedding, for our one hour session inside the park (before it opens) for our first look and photos. With that in mind, I was considering shortening the length to about tea length and perhaps altering the neckline. But I’m not really sure how. Again, I don’t want to change it TOO much, but I still want it to have a little more of a modern look. I love that it’s so simple as I don’t really want a lot of bling or accesories, and I adore A-line/ballgowns.

I would really love any suggestions on how I might be able to alter this beautiful gown. Also…any thoughts on wearing it as a secondary dress? A part of me feels very guilty for still wanting to go shopping when I have a beautiful dress with so much meaning I can use. However, I’ve also always wanted that special time of looking for my perfect dress with my mom and finding that dress that’s 100% me

Thanks for any input!!!

I wasn't sure if this belonged in the Dollhouse or somewhere else, but hopefully someone here can help me out. I've been looking into the laws and whatnot for selling fanart and I know that it's pretty strict, but recently I've reached a new question I can't seem to find an answer to. I collect BJDs and am looking to open an online boutique sometime in the next year (well, that's the dream), and my fiance suggested perhaps selling jewelry or postcards with photos of my dolls on them. I'm unsure if this is legal?

On the one hand, they're my dolls, I own them and have customized them to suit my tastes, as are the point of BJDs. On the other hand, I didn't actually sculpt the dolls myself. I feel like this extends to ponies as well. If someone makes a unique custom pony, is that alright to photograph for sale and whatnot? Or is the fact that the pony base still belongs to Hasbro make it a no-no?

Arts & Crafts Corral / Pet portraits-can you recommend some artists?
« on: October 30, 2014, 12:07:08 PM »
This is an extremely emotional topic for me right now so I'm just going to try to keep it really straight forward. I'm looking for an artist who can paint realistic pet portraits, preferably in oils on canvas. My budget is $150, but preferably a little less as I would like to get a second one for my sister. I've been looking on etsy and these are some shops I have found:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/BlueSeaArts
https://www.etsy.com/shop/OceanGalleryShop
https://www.etsy.com/shop/FinestOilPaintings
https://www.etsy.com/shop/NocturnalCreations14
https://www.etsy.com/shop/MissysPortraits
https://www.etsy.com/shop/LamandaDesigns
https://www.etsy.com/shop/bethanysalisbury
https://www.etsy.com/shop/cmqstudio
https://www.etsy.com/shop/MeliaArts
https://www.etsy.com/shop/puciPetPortraits

Honestly, it's a lot. I don't even know how to begin choosing. I'm so lost right now and could really use some direction. Has anyone used these artists before? Or could recommend someone else? I want these to be professional quality, actual artwork to hang on the wall. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pony Corral / Ponies on display v. "grown-up" decorating
« on: October 28, 2014, 11:54:23 AM »
Forgive me if this post is all over the place.

I've recently been granted access back to my entire room (for a long time it doubled as the playroom for when we babysat my nieces and nephews), and it's amazing having so much space again! For the past couple days I've been turning it back into MY room and not a room for the kids. But the toys...MY toys, that is, my ponies, are leaving me feeling conflicted. Granted, most of them are in storage, the only ones I have out are 4 fashion style ponies and my nearly complete collection of G3 babies which take up one little display all to themselves.

Jumping ahead, my boyfriend and I are pretty serious and have a rough timeline of moving into our own place in a little over a year. I'm very excited and he knows about all my toys and he likes them and doesn't mind them. Even so, they're bothering me. When we move out, it's really important to me that we have a home that feels like it belongs to adults, that feels mature and not like a college room dorm. I don't delude myself that we can afford to move into this huge, multi-room home, and likely will have to settle with only one, maybe two bedrooms. So...where to put the ponies? Is there any way to display them in any way that will still look....grown-up? Or should I just put the rest away in storage and only pull them out when I want to look at them? If we have a second room I know logic would reason to put them in there, but I know that second room would go to our future child, and even though that not until at least 5 years away, I still feel strange putting something away that's only temporary.

I'm probably really overthinking things. All I know is I'm tired of feeling like a big kid (and I'm not picking on those who enjoy feeling this way, different strokes for different folks), and I think the fact that I have other toys (TMNT, BJDs) that I love and don't want to part with also doesn't help.
