Most of mine are in plastic bins these days! When I first moved to my own place my room had nice flat door jambs over the door and closet, and a flat shelf on the headboard of bed bed. I put a rotating selection of ponies up on these surfaces and kept the rest in big flat bins under my bed. And, ok, a few others made it to the front of my bookshelves! Honestly, while I know lots of people like having all their ponies out at once, I think rotating out what is on display helps keep your collection feeling fun and new. It’s fun unpacking a pony you haven’t seen in a while! I recommend it!

Pony Corral / Re: Does anyone still do trades?

I do think an actively trading trader list/post would be helpful.

How about those that have common pony armies make requests too if they're looking?

I'll restore or customize duplicates that I have for trading or sales. Don't mind changing symbols if someone wants a common pony schnazzed up for their army...

Yes please! Should we do that on this post or start another, and if so, should the other post be here in the corral section so more people see it?

I'm still happy to trade. Just that a lot of what I have duplicates of are common G1's that nobody needs...

I hear this but... I'm still missing some pretty common ponies like Gusty, Bubbles, Seashell, Flutterbye, Tickle, Starflower or Pinwheel and I'll gladly trade you a Bowtie, Windy or spare purple flutter for any of those! Heck, I've somehow even managed to avoid getting a Sundance in all my years of collecting. And I've even got a few spare Sweet Pops? TE for TE anyone? And as for common G3s...I have hardly any g3s, and you know. I can always find a home for such a cute fridge magnet. I guess my point is - trading for things I have taking up room (doubles) seems prefferable to me than shelling out cash. Ponies are getting pricey these days!

Maybe it would be fun if the Arena holds a large trade-only event and everyone posts what they have for trade on one thread.
I LOVE the idea of one giant for trade post, folks listing what they're hoping to move or find, like a big pony garage sale. It might just reinvigorate things! As to shipping costs, most ponies fit in flat rate mailers, don't they?

Pony Corral / Re: How to display seaponies?
« on: April 12, 2022, 01:08:57 AM »
I’ve always wanted to put mine into the pony bathtub! The one with the shower head and sea pony accents. Just a whole bunch of baby sea ponies crammed in there!

Other than that, I’m thinking of finding a way to suspend the sea ponies from clear filament or fishing line using the drainage hole in their heads. Then I want to buy a cute fish tank or pretty glass jar (both would need a lid) and deck it out with gravel or flat marbles and a few fake plants to make a sea pony aquarium. I’d suspend the ponies in fun poses from the lid! I wouldn’t actually fill it with water, of course.

Haven’t tried this yet but I’ve been thinking about it! If anyone feels inspired, I’d love to see what you do.

Pony Corral / Re: Anyone else think that G1 ponies look a bit sad?
« on: April 01, 2022, 08:12:51 AM »
Yes, I feel the same way . . . they've known sadness and they carry melancholy.  Still, they smile.  "There's always another rainbow."

And Lovesbabysquirmy - wistful, I agree with that.

But actually, yes, as a kid I could kind of see it! This thread just brought to the fore a memory I have from being a really little kid. I brought my ponies to a friend’s house and must have been happily playing with them with her or showing them to her mom when her mom asked me, “they’re very cute, but how come they look so sad?” I had seen The Last Unicorn by then so I gazed into Beachball’s violet eyes that turned down at the edges and said “it’s because they know they’re The Last.” Surely wistful hill standing, meaningful gazing into the distance, and mournful hoof thrashing were to follow.

Years after I had gotten older and gotten over unicorns, I discovered the book version of The Last Unicorn in High School and found it quite life changing. Peter S. Beagle, I hold you partially responsible for my pony collection as an adult. In the best way.

I wonder if Hasbro sees g1 eyes as sad too, because if you look at the modern official G1 style art they make, the eyes are carefully straightened out in their placement on the pony face and also bigger.

Pony Corral / Re: Will anything happen if I don\'t remove tail rust?
« on: March 08, 2022, 10:34:45 PM »
If I encounter a stubborn pony head I need to remove, I dunk the pony in boiling water, and then start dripping in acetone on a q tip onto the neck seam, starting at the place where the heat of the boiling water split the neck seam. If I’m nervous about the paint I cover the painted parts in paper towels secured with rubber bands. I pour boiling water over the neck seam often to keep the plastic soft as I work. So far, I have only had clean head body splits using this method.

Now I just need to sit back and take a moment to consider how terrifying all those sentences are if you don’t have the context of plastic ponies. Oof!

Oooh! I know this is late but somehow I missed it when it was timely. Honestly with her pink, red and white color scheme I think Twice as Fancy Yum Yum counts. I put her in the Hearts and Candy pony wear recently and she looked VERY Valentines.

Bonnie Bonnets isn’t thematically appropriate (unless you LOVE hats I guess!) but I feel her color scheme fits as well.

I hope nobody minds when I steal some of these ideas for customs  :P I might have to see what I can do with a dinosaur or jellyfish theme.

Please please do! Seeing a custom dinosaur pony would make me SO HAPPY! Also your work is very adorable.

A pony who just has a picture of a dinosaur on her butt. She’s best friends with Cutesaurus and can’t believe her luck.

You’re most welcome! Glad I can help.

The sunshine ponies meet up with the sea ponies and they all pool their magicarp hoards to evolve one giant Gyarados.

Pony Corral / Re: Pony hair care help
« on: February 13, 2022, 11:37:00 PM »
In the future, the best way to preserve curls on a curly haired pony is to wash their hair in cold water. Heat makes curls loose.  I recently got a Ringlet from the same set who had VERY dry ends, and found that Pantene Pro-V Smooth and Sleek conditioner was immensely helpful in making her hair feel smooth and lush again. Her ends were quite dry and rough so I took a flat iron to her, and while she did arrive to me with curls, I don’t think they were original, so I didn’t feel so bad about it.

Another hair trick is to use a metal dog comb to detangle the hair. I got this one after years of just using a regular plastic comb and the difference is noticeable! The difference is really noticeable. https://www.petsmart.com/dog/grooming https://www.petsmart.com/dog/grooming-supplies/brushes-combs-and-blowdryers/top-paw-metal-pet-comb-5295650.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=CjwKCAiA9aKQBhBREiwAyGP5lVK-cSiN9GBFLlENzPluu2R1dfk-sESb9uemrIVoTM-vxABlBQAKCRoCKgoQAvD_BwE-supplies/brushes-combs-and-blowdryers/top-paw-metal-pet-comb-5295650.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=CjwKCAiA9aKQBhBREiwAyGP5lVK-cSiN9GBFLlENzPluu2R1dfk-sESb9uemrIVoTM-vxABlBQAKCRoCKgoQAvD_BwE

Pony Corral / Re: Pony things you wish you didn't know?

We were so close to having accurate unicorn tails and lil hoof feathers on the pegasus ponies in G5. :(

100% agree with this! Of the leaked designs and even the early color scheme concepts for the main characters that we got to see, I feel like final g5 went with the least interesting ones.

I wish I didn’t know about…the kid who supposedly ate his sister’s toy pony? Found out while looking at the thread on pony toxicity. Gross. Ick. I hate it.

I don’t want to shut down people rightfully kvetching about gross brony behavior! Quite a bit of it was gross. But…I attended a few brony cons during their heyday, made some nice brony con going friends, had a lot of fun, and even bought a lot of g1s! There is plenty of brony stuff that’s unpleasant though, and I sure don’t want to barge in here going “not all bronies!” so please carry on.

Oh, for sure. That's why I phrased my post the way I did. I used the brony label for a good few years myself, and there were plenty of awesome people who did/do the same. And if there's not at least one bit of brony fan music you still listen to and will defend with your life, you're lying.

OH, now that last part is 100% accurate! I noticed the careful phrasing, I appreciate it, and I hope I did the same.

I have been thinking about doing something like that for AGES! You could even sell cutie mark templates on Etsy if you wanted. I feel like that would be hugely useful. Love your idea!
