Hasbro anounces comic con 2012 pony Design Contest!

Part of the trick to winning is going to be submitting an earth pony design.  Because, let's face it, Hasbro is not going to churn out a new 18" pony mold, they're going to use the 18" pony that's used for Pony Project art. 

(Not that I'm complaining, I love that mold!)

A unicorn or pegasus might make it to the Top Ten entries, but I'll bet you anything an earth pony will win.

So is this a G4 or G3 contest? :/  It really doesn't specify.

I was wondering that too. I kept trying to look. I'm guessing its G3 since they say 18" pony, and the Pony projects are G3. I feel like they might mass produce the winner...if they like the design enough lol

Aren't the 18" ponies all handpainted? Isn't that why they are only making one?

I'm fairly certain it'll be G4 even though it says 18", since the updated contest page shows G4 designs

I think to Hasbro, My Little Pony is My Little Pony.   They use G4 artwork on the page because that's what's in their clipart folder right now.


Some of the Pony Project ads also use G4 artwork, but I've seen blogs from two different artists participating this year, and they're using the Kimono-looking G3 mold again.

Good, because I was going to go with a G3.   Even tho I don't have a snowball's chance of winning, I still want to submit at least one design.

What about styling starcatcher and Rarity? They have a 18" molds of them, so reproduction wouldn't be a problem unless they decided only to use that standard white blank one. I really hope it's a G4 honestly. Though i collect all gens I'd be much more excited to have it be the newest gen.

I've been feverishly working on my submission but I'm a bit frustrated.  How do you submit?  I get to the page where it says you have to fill out your personal info. I hit submit.  It takes me to a page where it says I have to "like" the contest to enter.  Well, I'd already done that.  But then it won't do anything.  It just sits there on the page telling me to hit the "like" button and won't ever take me somewhere where i can upload my submission.  Grrrrr!

I was going to use my ponysona, but I can't.. In the rules it says: "The Submission cannot have been submitted previously in another contest or been exhibited, displayed publicly or posted on line or used anywhere else."

Darn! But I already have some ideas. ^_^

  Me, too. But the email sent to me has a "submit entry" link so I was just gonna follow that when I'm ready to submit.

I'm going to enter, but I have a questions for you all... does anyone have links to past winners of similar contests? I entered the one for the fair in 2010 and never did see who won (yes, I am spying ).

Wow they really covered themselves, didn't they!? At least this means no established fan characters from FiM or background characters from the show.

I actually quite like that line - it means the submissions "should" be completely unique and therefore everyone has a fair shot [fingers crossed!]
