Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Kitty in my Pocket Comics (1990s)
« on: February 18, 2021, 02:47:05 AM »
Full of enthusiasm for one of my favourite childhood toylines, the 90s Kitty in my Pocket by MEG, I recently started an online archive of the comics that were available back in the day.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/190248308@N06/albums

I'm currently working with someone who has most of the comics and is sending pics to me bit by bit. However, I'm still on the lookout for issues 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. If you happen to own those and could take photos of them, I would be very grateful!

I also want to know: did you have kitty comics as a child? And do you remember which kitty came free with which issue? I'm trying to compile a list, but it's pretty complicated (not least because some issues seem to have had several different kitties available). So some anecdotal evidence might help clear things up (or it could just complicate things further. Who knows?).

Finally, if anyone just wants to chat about Kitty in my Pocket, go ahead, I'm always pleased to find someone who shares my interest in these cute little kittens :) I know a bit about the other IMP lines as well (puppies, ponies etc), but it's the kitties that really do it for me :)

Pony Corral / Fakie G3....On Wheels!
« on: January 18, 2021, 07:26:51 AM »
I found this cute little thing abandoned by the side of the road.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CKMPciSF_Pe/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
I actually thought at first glance that she might be genuine MLP merch - like that Sunny Daze with the Playdoh hair. But it looks like she's a fakie....on wheels! She has a little motor powering her back wheels, which we've managed to get (sort of) working, so she's been galloping about adorably. It looks like she once had wings too! Anyone seen a fakie like this before? I'd like to see a picture of how she looked with her wings!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Kitty in my Pocket Birth Certificates
« on: September 06, 2020, 02:50:46 AM »
I've recently been collecting 90s Kitty in my Pocket (so cute! Such fond childhood memories!). I think there might be a few other collectors here, so I thought it was worth asking this strangely specific question....

In the course of my kitty-collecting adventures, I've acquired many Kitty in my Pocket birth certificates with writing on them, and I have to admit I like seeing what other people chose to call their childhood kittens. There's some serious ingenuity out there - for every Tom or Tiddles, there's a Silver Shine, a Gold Glimmer, a Lucinda or a Clementine.

Words and names are something I love (at one time I was collecting My Little Pony names in different languages) and I somehow ended up starting a collection of kitten names that I had seen online or on certificates that I own. It's nearly as addictive as collecting the actual kittens....

So please, kitty collectors, humour my weirdness, contribute to this Very Important Project, and make me happy by sharing pictures of your written-on kitty birth certificates :) Or you could just list the names if you don't feel like posting photos.

For those who are interested, here's my name collection so far:

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Action Figure ID
« on: May 22, 2020, 02:06:20 AM »
I got a bundle of random late 90s/early 00s action figures to play with/restore/customise :)
I've managed to ID most of them, but am stumped by this guy. Does anyone know who/what he is? He looks like some kind of ninja. He doesn't have any manufacturer's marks.
Excuse the missing limbs, I seem to have opened a retirement home for damaged action figures

Pony Corral / Changing Buddy L Batteries: Tutorial
« on: May 03, 2020, 03:02:36 AM »
(I hope Pony Corral is the right place to put this, even though it concerns a fakie rather than a genuine Hasbro pony.)

So you have a Buddy L fakie that doesn't work any more? Fret not, Shaz is here to tell you how to fix it!
I've seen several people ask about how to change the batteries in these ponies, so I thought I'd make a tutorial. I have only ever fixed one Buddy L pony so I'm not exactly the world's greatest expert, but hopefully my experience might help other people get their Buddy L pony up and running again :)

You Will Need:
Non-working Buddy L pony (obvs )
A screwdriver
3 x AAA batteries
You may also need a cotton bud, some vinegar, and/or some paper towel for cleaning the battery compartment.

1) Turn your pony over and you will notice she has a little screw on her belly.

2) Unscrew using a screwdriver and unclip her saddle.

3) Remove the saddle. Your pony will now look like this:

4) Gently pull on her rear end (so undignified! Poor pony!) and you will end up with two halves of pony! As you can see, the battery compartnent is in her front end.

5) Welcome to the battery compartment! Remove any old batteries and dispose of them safely. Your pony may be full of crystallised battery acid, in which case give the battery compartment a good clean. This tutorial may help: www.wikihow.com/Clean-up-Battery-Acid-Spills. My pony contained alkaline batteries and, as there wasn't much spillage, I was able to clean her up with a slightly damp paper towel. A cotton bud dipped in ordinary household vinegar will also help. Ensure your pony is properly dry before moving onto the next step. You may need to leave her overnight.

6) Put three new AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Do try to put them the right way up. I always get it wrong .

I don't know if this is a common problem with Buddy L ponies, but as you can see in the photo, the middle battery is not touching the metal so the pony will not work oh noes :O
I was able to fix this by fitting in a small metal spring from a pen.

Properly fitted batteries:

7) Test your pony by gently squeezing the plastic bits on the end of the battery compartment. She should light up/make a noise/light up and make a noise! Mine gallops, neighs and makes a noise like a road crossing(?); also her horn lights up and her wings flutter. If she's not working, you may need to clean off more battery acid or check that your batteries are all touching against the appropriate metal contacts.

8) Reassemble your pony. This is the bit where I panic that I have lost the tiny screw. Then I find it and stop panicking.

9) Congratulations! You now have a working Buddy L pony!

PS My dad is an electrician so I tend to enter fearlessly into electronic pony repair, knowing that I have expert back-up if it's needed. If you have any more intricate enquiries about pony electronics, let me know, and I will ask his expert advice :)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Do You Recognise This Horse?
« on: July 03, 2019, 10:42:42 AM »
Once more I am trying to identify an obscure toy!
My grandma bought me this horse when I was about six (so, around 1999). I remember it came in a box with a blue horse and also some accessories (I can't remember what they were, I think maybe some brushes and perhaps gymkhana stuff). It came from a Wilkinson's/Wilko shop, if that's any help! No markings on the horse to say where she was made or by which company. Hoping someone might recognise her....

Pony Corral / I'd Like to Know More About This Fakie!
« on: May 26, 2019, 12:15:58 PM »
We've been sorting out the pony collection today and we found my girlfriend's favourite childhood fakie! This was exciting, as we had previously mislaid him for a while! (The pony cupboard got a bit chaotic, that's why we've been sorting it out.)
Anyway, I'd like to know more about this type of fakie, if anything is known. Does anyone know which company made them, or when they were sold (I'm guessing late '80s or early '90s, as my gf thinks he came from a charity shop sometime around 1996). Of course he has nothing written on him, not even a 'Made in China'!
Here's a photo of him: https://imgur.com/a/FtFskwY

I found a little G4 blindbag pony in a charity shop, so bought her of course. On closer inspection, I realised she's actually a custom pony! (Made from a Fluttershy, I believe.)

http://imgur.com/a/JjGRL8k (Ignore the Mimi & the Goo Goos ice-cream which she seems to have decided is her morning snack!)

Just wondering if she's meant to look like some backgrounder or famous ponysona; I don't know enough about G4 to know, but thought someone here might. Or maybe she's just a random OC. Her mark is three hearts. She seems quite well-made, I'm surprised she ended up in a charity shop.

The Dollhouse / DC Superhero Girls Action Figures - size difference?
« on: March 27, 2019, 12:35:42 PM »
I just acquired one of the 6" DC Superhero Girls figures (Harley) second-hand. I was looking at her next to my other figure from the same line (Batgirl, bought new in 2017) when I noticed something weird: Harley is quite a bit bigger than Batgirl, both taller and stockier o.O. I'm curious: is this something other people have noticed with these figures? Are they from different batches or something? They both have the same things written on them and are copyrighted 2015.

Pony Corral / G1 Pony Stickers From Portugal
« on: February 08, 2019, 04:30:27 AM »
I recently acquired some G1 stickers from Portugal! They don't seem to be something that's widely known about (in fact, I don't think I've heard much about G1 in Portugal generally), so I thought I'd share some pictures.

Imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/Xxiwhbu

Approx. 7x10 cm, they were produced and sold in Portugal in 1987 in order to advertise the Portuguese dubs of Rescue from Midnight Castle and Escape from Catrina, which were shown in 1988. I was surprised to see that they include a picture of the Mountain Boys - a hint that the boys were going to be available in Portugal, or just another example of Hasbro's usual 'look at these lovely ponies, they won't be sold in YOUR country'? (I'm thinking the latter, I know what Hasbro is like ) There's also a glimpse of the prototype human Pony Friends. And of course Portuguese names for several of the ponies (I love foreign pony names!).

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / ID this baby cat?
« on: January 31, 2019, 02:00:19 AM »
I got this little cat in a charity shop when I was very young (so, late '90s in England). I've never seen another one like her, and I wondered if anyone here knows who/what she is. She has a vinyl head and a cloth body with beans in it. Her sleepsuit opens at the back to reveal a strange purple tail and the words "it's a girl!".

MLP Nirvana / The Elusive Mexican Nibbles
« on: December 07, 2018, 02:30:29 AM »
A couple of years ago, I acquired a cute little Mexican Baby Dibbles. Obviously since then I have been keeping an eye out on eBay for a Mexican Baby Nibbles to keep her company.
In all that time I have never seen a Mexican Nibbles :O

I see Mexican Dibbles every so often; on one occasion I even saw a bundle of Dibbleses from the same seller, including an unpainted one that was advertised as a prototype. But no Nibbles!

Does Mexican Nibbles actually exist ? Is she only ever for sale on eBay at times when I'm not on there? Is it all a conspiracy?!

More seriously, is there some reason why Dibbles tends to outnumber Nibbles on the second-hand market? After seeing the eBay listing with the prototype, I wondered if maybe the factory created extra Dibbles for some reason; is that a thing that could happen? (I thought I saved a picture from that auction but my phone says no.)

Also, I like to call my Nirvana/foreign ponies by names in the appropriate language, and I also enjoy collecting random foreign pony names :). Does anyone know what Dibbles and Nibbles were called in Mexico/any other Spanish-speaking country for that matter?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Random Plastic Accessory: ID needed
« on: October 24, 2018, 01:02:05 PM »
Found a random plastic item in the road today, as I sometimes do. Does anyone know what it belongs to? I think it's meant to have a mirror in it.

I'm trying to identify a toy horse I remember having when I was little! Hoping someone can help me out.

The time was around 1999 to 2001, the place was England, and she was presumably  new (she was a present from my uncle). The horse was called American Dream, which I think must have been the name on her packaging, as I don't think it is a name I would have come up with myself. I only remember the actual toy quite vaguely, as most of my memories about her are of a story I made up about her in which she was of course a full-sized horse! She was a pale brownish colour, possibly with some white markings, and had a brushable mane and tail. She was maybe a bit smaller than one of those big Barbie horses? She might have had moveable legs. I think she came with some accessories: maybe a saddle and reins and a jump? I'm not sure.

I realise this is a bit vague, but I hope someone can help me out as it is one of those things that niggles at your mind and is really annoying . I have tried Google of course but I have just found a lot of Barbie's Dream Horse and also Grand Champions etc that happen to be American Palaminos or whatever!
